Why do plant drip saucers affect plant health differently than sub-irrigation (self-watering planters)?
From my understanding, it is a "no-no" to keep a drip saucer full of water, as it could promote root rot. I've been doing some amateur research on sub-irritation systems, and I don't understand how such systems are not just as vulnerable to root rot as a full drip tray. Why can't a saucer be used as a primitive sub-irrigation system if water is poured into the saucer (not on top of the soil)?
The key difference between the engineering of self-watering planters and saucers is the presence of a "wick," a semi-small area (usually full of dirt) that draws up water from the reservoir beneath the plant. The plant is suspended above and separated from the reservoir. Take away the wick and and the suspension, allow the plant to "fall down" into the reservoir, and now you have a pot and saucer combo. So it seems to me that the wick and suspension only serve to add a degree of separation between the plant and the reservoir. But it is common for roots to travel through the wick and into the reservoir anyway. So, why cannot a more simple form of separation be used in conjunction with a saucer? Specifically, use a taller plant pot to increase the amount of soil between the plant and the saucer. Would this work? Why or why not? Thanks.

Reserving a vendor booth is easily done online with a payment, but I cannot find any information regarding what steps someone should take if they have the desire to reserve a panel. Is it by invitation only?
4 AnswersComics & Animation6 years agoWhy can't I use photocopied sheet music in college?
I'm a music major, so I'm assigned classical music to study and perform each semester. All classical music is so old that it is now considered public domain. This means I can get anything I could ever need, legally, for free, off a website like imslp. However, my school, and I assume most other schools require students "to obtain original scores of their repertoire. Photocopies are only acceptable if the student owns an original copy." Is there a legal reason for this, or do they just have giant stick up their rear?
5 AnswersClassical6 years agoAnyone ever heard of a book series that progresses only through prequels?
I had an earth-shattering idea. I asked myself, "what if there was a book series that each new book that was released was a prequel to the most previously written one? That would be fascinating!" That would obviously make the first book written the last book in the chronological series.
So I'm just wondering if anyone has ever heard of a series like that.
3 AnswersBooks & Authors7 years agoGBA yugioh game with gravekeepers theme?
I suddenly want to take a trip down memory lane. No one plays yugioh anymore and if they do, they have the newest season/series of cards I don't care about. So I thought a game would be fun. I've tried looking, but the only information I can find tells me most GBA games don't have my favorite card theme "gravekeeper's" which were often found in pharaonic guardian booster packs.
So I was hoping someone could tell me a game that has the gravekeepers cards in it and features story/setting/time period of the original searies.
3 AnswersVideo & Online Games7 years agoTrade level 50 Blissey from Heartgold to B&W, will the move relearner be able to teach her Heal Pulse?
Heal Pulse (which can be learned by Blissey at level 38) is a new ability created in B&W. So my level 50 Blissey from Heartgold never learned it. But if I trade her to a B&W game, would the move relearner be able to teach it to her?
Also, if I traded a level 20 Blissey from Heartgold to B&W, would she be able to learn Heal Pulse at level 38 normally?
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games8 years agoMust use card in order to raise credit score?
I just got my first credit card. I actually have no desire to use it (i prefer using debit or cash). However, I'm under the impression that a good credit score is necessary in order to purchase a home or rent an apartment. So in preparation for big purchases such as these, I want to raise my credit score before I actually need to find my own residence.
I also understand that credit scores benefit from timely payments, not getting too close to reaching your credit limit, and having cards for long periods of time. If i never use my card, I will never have a late payment, nor will I ever get close to reaching my credit limit. So my main question is: can I raise my credit score without using my credit card? It seems to easy for someone who prefers not to use credit.
4 AnswersCredit9 years agoWhich Japanese Anime is this scene from?
A group of probably four high school friends (all girls) are walking to school. On the inside of the school gate is an over-enthusiastic teacher. As the friends walk through the gate, the teacher stops one of them and forces them to say "Ohayo gozaimasu!" multiple times, trying to get her into the school spirit.
I think one of the other friends knew the teacher was there, and purposefully made the victim-friend go through the gate first.
I am pretty sure its from K-On, but I cannot find any proof. If I wanted to check, I'd have to watch the entire season over again. Before I go to such great lengths, I wanted to see if anyone has a better memory than I.
So, if you may be so kind, what anime is this from and what episode?
2 AnswersComics & Animation10 years agoPhrase: "Hit and Miss" why not "Hit or Miss"?
It is my understanding that the phrase "Hit and Miss" is applied when the only thing you can do is try something to see if it works and, if it doesn't work, try a different one. If that is its meaning, then the phrase is grammatically incorrect. You cannot hit AND miss on a single try. It is either hit OR miss. You either succeed and "Hit" what you were looking for, or you fail and "Miss" your target, and move on to the next round, where you will hit or miss.
Can anyone give a logical reason why the phrase uses the word "and" instead of "or"?
5 AnswersWords & Wordplay10 years agoMailing broken ipod to Apple factory, will I be reimbursed if they can't fix it?
My ipod is broken, and there is very little information on the web that is similar to my problem. So I don't know for sure what is causing the problem. Therefore, I'm unable to be certain it is fixable. I plan to mail it to the Apple factory so they can try to fix it/replace it. But I have to pay about 150$ before I mail it, and before I even know if they will fix/replace it.
If for some reason they can't fix it/replace it, will I get my $150 back?

1 AnswerMusic & Music Players1 decade agoDo Night-Shifts pay more than Day-Shifts?
Of course not every company/employer does the same things, but, using any job as an example, would it be more likely to pay a higher salary than a similar job during the day? Does the average job usually pay more if it starts at night and ends early morning?
9 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoEarning my Driver's License, I've already graduated, what to do about VOE form?
So, I've been lazy, and I am getting my driver's license a couple years late. I earned my Driver's Permit during my senior year in high school. I remember I needed a Verification of Enrollment and Attendance (VOE) form, when I applied for my Permit. The VOE is proof that the applicant is attending school properly. Anyways, I hold on to my Permit for regular six months before I can get my license. After those 6 months, however, I have graduated.
Now I am not sure what to do about the VOE form. I am not attending school because I have graduated, so I don't think I am supposed to go to the school office and get it signed haha. But I still believe that I need it or something to replace it (maybe my diploma).
Anyone know if I still need the VOE form or something similar?
1 AnswerOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoNot counting blindness, is there a limit to how bad your vision can be?
I'm near sighted, and my vision gets progressively worse over time (not at an alarming rate though). I've always wondered if my vision could ever reach a point where it would be extreamly troublesome to get a percription from an eye doctor or order the percription from an eyecare store. Similar to finding clothes that are extra extra extra large size; you gotta go to a specialty store. (Sorry for the possibly insulting analogy, but I don't mean to be rude.) Or maybe my vision could get so bad that there simply is not a perscription that is strong enough.
Could this happen under normal circumstances? I don't mean getting chemicals in my eyes or other sudden accidents, only slow degration due to too much tv and all that jazz. I also don't mean complete blindess, where all you see is black; just extream blurry-ness.
1 AnswerOther - Diseases1 decade agoWhat movie did Will Ferrel audit a baker? Not "Stranger Than Fiction"?
The baker was a woman, who ran a rather small bakery, and she lived upstairs i believe. When Will firsts arrives, her customers are displeased with him, she takes him upstairs so he can look through all her legal documents, though they're in a big mess. Later, she bakes him cookies, but he refuses to eat them, stating that he should have to purchase them. A day or so later, he wants to give her a gift (i think it was some kind of canned/pickled good), she mimics him, saying that she should have to purchase him, but she eventually accepts them.
Thats about all I remeber. It wasn't a generic Will Ferel movie, where he's shouting all the time and acting like a moron haha.
2 AnswersMovies1 decade agoSanae, from Clannad, says "Watashi no pan wa [a hurdle]." How do you say "a hurdle" in Japanese?
This quote is from Clannad After Story - Episode 23 Extra: Events from One Year Ago. Subbed, she said, "My bread is a hurdle?!" How would you finish off "Watashi no pan wa" to make it say "My bread is a hurdle"? In romanticized Japanese please.
Also, I would greatly appreciate if anyone can remember some more of the endings to "Watashi no pan wa..." with english translation and Japenese romantization.

1 AnswerLyrics1 decade agoIs it ok to say the Japanese "R" like the American "R"?
I've seen so much dispute about how to pronounce the Japanese "R".
People seem to have narrowed it down to "D" and "L", even though it has always sounded like a regular "R" to me.
Many Japanese speakers I've talked to have contradicted each other. I'm rather frustrated that there is so much debate over a silly letter, especially when the only sound I ever hear is the American "R" sound.
Its like one person telling you this bucket of paint is blue, while another person says it is red, and I am blind, so I cannot see the color myself. I have no ability or evidence to deside for myself, exept what all the "experts" can't agree upon.
Therefore, the only thing that makes sense to me, is to follow what my own ears are telling me, because I cannot trust the "L" or "D", which are being argued about between even experts in the Japanese language.
But, before I start practicing Japanese (I am planning on learning the language), would people understand me if I did say the Japanese "R" like an American "R"?
PS
Now that I think about it, wouldn't it be trouble if all those "experts" where in a room together telling each other to "ulusai" and "udusai"?
