I'm a Pilot in the U.S. I'm married with four kids. In my spare time, I build guitars. I'm also a sound engineer, motorcyclist, woodworker, woodturner, and Amateur Radio Operator. I'm a Dad, son, brother, but most importantly a Christ follower - not perfect, but forgiven, living by grace through faith.

  • How does a thrust bearing work on top of a ROHN BX48 antenna tower?

I recently purchased a Rohn BX48 tower that had a thrust bearing mounted in the top section. I can't find any numbers or identification on it. It is designed to handle a 1-3/4" pipe, I think, because the inside diameter of the opening is approx 1-15/16". It has (what looks like) a grease fitting on the side of it. It has a four bolt mounting pattern. The bearing is 5-1/2" across, 7-1/2" diagonal, 6-3/8" (diag) between mounting holes. The inside piece turns freely.

Here's what I am trying to picture in my head - when I set the pole in thru the top of the tower, what (or how) does the bearing keep the weight off the rotor? Is there a piece that I don't have? And can I possibly use a pole smaller than 1-3/4"? I have a source for 1-1/2" at a real low cost...

I am trying to keep from having to buy another one, as they are about $150...

    Thanks

  • On a Kawasaki EN500 Vulcan Fuel Position Switch, Which way is the 'ON' position?

I have a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan EN500LTD. I'm having a hard time figuring out which way to position the fuel switch in, to get it to be in the 'ON' position. The lever has a long part and a short part. Does the long part point to the 'ON' lettering, or does the short part face that way?

    Thanks, in advance

  • MAC G3 How to Get an IDE/SATA HD Recognized - SCSI as Boot Drive?

I have a PowerPC (G3) running at 333 Mhz, OSX 10.2.8 with a Seagate ST318275LW for the boot drive (SCSI Interface). There is (what looks like) a standard IDE/ATA connector on the motherboard, but i can't get the computer to recognize the IDE/SATA HD. It's a Western Digital WD3200AAJB. I've changed the jumpers on the WD HD, tried disconnecting the SCSI drive, and no luck. Can anyone give me a hint as to how to get the G3 to recognize the WD IDE/SATA drive? I need to get some data off of it. It used to be in a G4 I had that died recently. I know the drive is still good, as I can hear it spinning up. I just need to get the data off of it and transferred to a usb flash drive. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

  • 1980 Honda CB750K, Rear Sprocket, How Much Difference in MPG Should I Expect?

The standard rear sprocket for a 1980 Honda CB750K is a 46 tooth. If I replace it with a 45 tooth, I am being told I will reduce the rpm's by about 500 in 5th gear. Does anyone have information on how much better the mpg will be using it, or is there some website that could give me a gauge?

  • What stock(s) to purchase for short term growth - Aggressive Growth Needed, Willing to Take Risk(s)?

I'm wanting to hear what stock(s) on either the NYSE or AMEX you would buy, if you wanted strong growth in a short period of time. For instance, let's say you had $100,000, and you had 8 weeks to invest it. You want to end up with as much money as possible at the end of the eight weeks. What stock(s) would you look at to do that?

  • Best Glide Speed versus Minimum Sink Speed - Cessna 172 - Establishing Each?

For those pilots who are familiar with the Cessna 172, here's the questions:

How does one best establish these two speeds? What I am wanting to hear, is there a tip to establish them, independent of Gross Weight? And in what situations would you use each?

Are these always the same as the ones in the POH? What about headwinds? Tailwinds?

And what about if a Check Ride Examiner pulls the throttle to idle - what speed do you choose?

  • Does this Flight Qualify as Cross Country Time?

Remember the flight in 2005, where Steve Fossett flew non-stop in the GlobalFlyer, taking off from Salina, Kansas, flying more than 60 hours, and landing back at Salina?

My question is for Pilots and CFI's - Would the flight be considered 'Cross Country'??

    Thanks!
