Problems with percentage changes.?
If I want to figure out the percentage change of two numbers, say 6 and 1, I can use the following formula to calculate the percentage change:
(6-1/1)*100 and I get 500%. But my question is when I reverse the numbers and replace the 1s with 6 and 6 with 1 (1-6/6)*100 I get 83.33 percent. Why doesn't it also equal 500% when I reverse the numbers?
3 AnswersMathematics7 years agoHow do you create a GUI based application using C++?
I want to start developing programs for Windows. I know a little of C++ such as functions and arrays, but the output is just text. How do I create actual programs that show buttons, graphs, dialog boxes, preference windows, ability to print, etc?

If I take pictures with a powerful telescope, is there some type of software or website that will allow me to find out exactly what stars I'm looking at in a picture?
2 AnswersAstronomy & Space9 years agoWho mandates curriculum in public schools?
Students enrolled in public schools, from elementary to high-school, all have to meet certain criteria. You need a certain number of math classes, English classes, social sciences, etc. in order to graduate.
Colleges, too, expect students to have prior knowledge in certain areas. But who has the final say? Who gets to make the decision, and how is the process conducted?

I don't really know anything about physics, but if an object has more mass, does this mean it contains more protons, neutrons and electrons?
4 AnswersPhysics10 years agoWhen astronauts enter space, do they need to enter a pressurized system first?
I know nothing about space (a vacuum) and how it affects the human body. I've seen movies where people will enter some kind of pressure chamber before embarking on a journey in a submarine, so does the same apply to people who want to travel through outerspace? Do they need to enter some special pressure chamber?

Is there a way we can communicate via visible light frequencies? Maybe even communicate by using the ultraviolet frequencies emitted by our sun?

If two different species interbreed, is the offspring ALWAYS a new species, or are there exceptions?
What if there was another species closely related to us Homo sapiens, and we interbred, would we (Homo sapiens and the other closely related species) create an entirely new species?
5 AnswersZoology10 years agoIf Africans don't have Neanderthal DNA, does this mean that Africans are different than every other human?
Just last year scientists proved that Neanderthals interbred with Homo sapiens. When the tests were conducted, however, they found that Africans don't have Neanderthal DNA, but other present-day humans from Asia/Europe have Neanderthal DNA. Does this mean that all Africans are different than non-Africans? How are we still Homo sapiens if we are the hybrid offspring of a Neanderthal and a Homo sapien (two different species)?
2 AnswersBiology1 decade agoCHRISTIANS: Why do you think that when somebody commits a crime and blames it on the devil that...?
When somebody commits a crime and makes the claim that Satan, or demons, had possessed them, or they claim that God told them to kill their own children, why do you think the courts/judges request this person to have a mental evaluation?
Don't tell me that God would never tell someone to kill their own children, that story is found in the Bible. Read the story of Abraham sacrificing his own son. Imagine if God allowed Abraham to go through with it and kill his son, how do you know God isn't asking people of today to do the same?
Why don't courts take this persons request into consideration?
Think about it and explain it logically. I don't want to see "Because they're crazy." That's not an explanation. EXPLAIN IT LOGICALLY!

Show me scripture. If you can't provide scripture, then what supports this idea that we are given free will?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf light is travelling at 186,000 miles/sec, then are our future selves receiving radio signals?
Since light travels at 186,000 miles/sec, and if something travels at that speed, it can theoretically travel into the future, right? So with that being said, are our future selves picking up signals that we've transmitted just recently?
Also, why aren't we receiving radio signals broadcast in our past?

7 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoHow do species change to survive?
Let's say waterspouts (tornado's over a body of water) are constantly forming, pulling jellyfish from the water, where they are then carried to land, and die. Now, after this same re-occurrence over thousands of years, is it possible the jellyfish would find ways to survive, say by gaining the ability to float in the air, back to safety?
If so, how does this process work?
3 AnswersZoology1 decade agoIf God is all-powerful and all-merciful, why does he allow innocent children to be raped?
Why? I stopped believing in religion, and God, when I started questioning religion, it's not that hard to do.
Why did God allow 6,000,000 Jews to be murdered? Those were HIS people.
Why do I have the power to lift a book in the air, and your all-powerful God can't? When was the last time you saw an object floating in the air? Oh, yeah...never.
If a schoolbus driver accidentally drives off a cliff, with a busload of children, do you think the all-loving God would grab the bus in mid-air with his invisible hands and carry the bus back to safety? No, it would fall to the ground and explode, killing a bunch of innocent children. Why?
