Frederick Thompson Visit my Blog, www.isnrblog.com I am Conservative, Republican and an Ex Jehovah's Witness. I was a JW since birth. I am now a Deist. I have concluded that God/ intelligent design exists but I do not claim to know what he/she/it/them want us to do. I was disfellowshipped or excommunicated by the Witnesses. It's one of those "you can't quit, you're fired" situations. The Witnesses are quite intolerant of opposing views. I don’t have a special ax to grind against them. I despise all Organized Religions equally. Of course, being a Witness from birth, I will often write from that perspective. Being raised in the US, in a Judeo Christian culture, influences my writing as well. Religion brings out the most irrational side of people as they try to prove what they could not possibly know. I am not a Christian. There is no proof that Jesus ever existed or that the Bible is the written word of God. www.isnrblog.com

  • Jehovah's Witnesses, can you explain the changes in the Awake...?

...and in the change of the definition of the 1914 generation?

    THIS QUESTION WAS REMOVED YESTERDAY.

    The Awake forward after 1995

    "Why Awake! is published".

Awake! is for the enlightenment of the entire family. It shows how to cope with today's problems. It reports the news, tells about people in many lands, examines religion and science. But it does more. It probes beneath the surface and points to the real meaning behind current events, yet it always stays politically neutral and does not exalt one race above another.

Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things"

  • Do you think Jehovah's Witnesses monitor this site and try to control it....?

...by having JW's constantly post and get big scores. Look at Dude of Steel. He has 41,417 points. That's a full time job.

It would seem to me that the Watchtower Society is monitoring these sites and trying to control them.

  • Jehovah's Witnesses, if an unbeliever gave you a lottery ticket and it was a winner, would you keep the money?

I say, keep it. Jo Ho's believe gambling is wrong, but in this case, you risked nothing. The principle of greed, where you make a lot of money by wagering a little I don't think applies here, as you would have risked nothing.

This applies to all who think gambling is morally wrong, not just Jo Hos.

Just curious how you would answer. This is not an apostate trap or trick question.

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: how does Jehovah "channel" information thru the Faithful and Discrete Slave?

From the Watchtower, 10/1/94, pg 8

"Even as Bible prophecy pointed forward to the Messiah, it also directs us to the close-knit body of anointed Christian Witnesses that now serve as the faithful and discreet slave. It helps us to understand the Word of God. All who want to understand the Bible should appreciate that the “greatly diversified wisdom of God” can become known only through Jehovah’s channel of communication, the faithful and discreet slave.—John 6:68."

How does this actually work? Does he make ideas pop into their heads? That would be inspiration. When they get up in the morning, has he left them an article he wants published on their dresser? Does he email them?

This is a legit question because how can an organization be anyone’s "channel of communication" without some sort of...well.....communication?

They claim to be "spirit guided", how does that work? Does God's spirit wisper in their ear or do they have visions?

I am not mocking you, this is a legit question. How does Jehovah do it?

  • Jehovah’s Witnesses did Jesus choose JW's The Faithful and Discreet Slave in 1919?

    The Watchtower, 5/1/93, page 17

From the time Christ’s presence began and down to 1918, the slave class, despite unpopularity, persecution, and even some confusion, had been seeking to give timely food to the domestics. This is what the Master found when his inspection began. The Lord Jesus was pleased, and in 1919 he pronounced that faithful approved slave class happy. What was the slave’s delightful reward for doing what his Master had appointed him to do? A promotion! Yes, larger responsibilities were given in advancing his Master’s interests. Since the Master was now a heavenly King, why, then, his earthly belongings became even more precious.

So, “The Lord Jesus was pleased, and in 1919 he pronounced that faithful approved slave class happy. What was the slave’s delightful reward for doing what his Master had appointed him to do? A promotion!”

In 1919, Jehovah’s Witnesses celebrated Christmas, wore crosses, taught that Jesus died on a cross, celebrated birthdays and believed that “Millions Now Living Will Never Die.

In fact, most of what Jehovah’s Witnesses believed then, is no longer “The Truth”

Jesus was pleased with what the Watchtower Society taught in 1919?

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: Is Jehovah going to kill all non-Witnesses at Armageddon?

    WT 9/1/89 page 19:

"ONLY Jehovah’s Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the “great crowd,” as a united organization under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil."

It says "ONLY Jehovah’s Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the “great crowd,” will survive. it doesn't leave room for much discretion. It doesn't mention anyone else.

The standard Witness answer "Only Jehovah knows who will survive" seems to be contrary to your literature, that indicates Jehovah knows "ONLY" Jehovah's Witnesses will survive.

I guess now we all know.

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: is it to late for anyone else to be like you and be saved through Armageddon?

A friend of mine's boss, who is a Witness, cornered him last week and told him that the world was ending so soon, that it was to late for him.

I told him that if that was the case, why do JW's still go door to door?

As a kid I remember there was some talk of the preaching work stopping and the JW's preaching "The Judgement", i.e., "to late for you, you gonna die!!" I remember talking to an elder in 1970 and he was talking about that, thought I do not remember reading anything about it.

Is that still the plan? The "door of the Ark being sealed" type thing?

Let us know when that happens so we can look forward to no more weekend morning interuptions.

Seriously, is the "preaching of the judgement" the plan now?

  • Jehovah's Witnesses, why do you disfellowship someone for smoking, which is not specifically condemned in the

...Bible, but do not disfellowship one for gluttony which is condemned in the Bible and your own literature:

    Watchtower 3/1/06 pg 17:

"Such rejoicing as one pauses to reflect on good work accomplished is indeed refreshing, especially in pleasant association with family or friends. It may properly be viewed as a “gift of God.” Of course, the Creator’s providing so abundantly does not give us license to engage in unrestrained merriment. The Bible condemns drunkenness, gluttony, and immorality, warning that those who practice such things “will not inherit God’s kingdom.”— 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10; Proverbs 23:20, 21; 1 Peter 4:1-4."

Several years ago I watched an obese elder actually have a heart attack and die at the Sunday meeting. This guy was so fat, he was a heart attack waiting to happen.

Again, how come no one is ever disfellowshipped for obeisity, which the Bible clearly condemns and yet they are for smoking, which is not specifically mentioned?

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: I am confused on this issue. Please explain, or are you going to have it removed again?

In a press communiqué issued by the Secretary to the European Commission of Human Rights, Application No. 28626/95 Jehovah’s Witnesses, objecting to Bulgarias refusal to recognize them as a religious organization said:

The applicant association submits that the decision of the Council of Ministers of 28 June 1994 refusing the association's request for authorisation, was arbitrary and unlawful as it was taken secretly and did not give any reasons. This decision was then interpreted by the authorities as amounting to official prohibition to practise the Jehovah's Witnesses religion and as the ground for a brutal and persistent suppression of their activities through unlawful police actions and all possible measures. Furthermore, a media campaign was launched against Jehovah's Witnesses.

  • Jehovah's Witnesses, please explain the following:?

    Watchtower 1/15/61 page 64

    Disfellowshipped for taking blood

"If the taking of a blood transfusion is the first offense of a dedicated, baptized Christian due to his immaturity or lack of Christian stability and he sees the error of his action and grieves and repents over it and begs divine forgiveness and forgiveness of God’s congregation on earth, then mercy should be extended to him and he need not be disfellowshiped. He needs to be put under surveillance and to be instructed thoroughly according to the Scriptures upon this subject, and thereby be helped to acquire strength to make decisions according to the Christian standard in any future cases."

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: Since there are many contradictions in your literature, you claim not to be inspired..

by God, you constantly change central doctrines and admit to "making mistakes" as to predictions of "the end of this system of things" why should A) Anyone take you seriously and B) Can you say for sure that what you are being taught now is the truth from God?

  • Jehovah's Witnesses. please explain this from your literature:?

From: The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah - How? 1971 p. 216:

JEHOVAH’S “SWORD” AGAINST “ALL THOSE OF FLESH”

9 Shortly, within our twentieth century, the “battle in the day of Jehovah” will begin against the modern antitype of Jerusalem, Christendom."

Did I miss something? Isn't the 20th Century over? Wasn't this quote from 1971, before 1975?

Look it up on your little CD's, kids.

  • Jehovah's Witnesses, is the Watchtower hinting at the year 2034 for Armageddon?

    Watchtower, Dec 15, 2003

    Page 15, Paragraph 6

"In Noah's day, Jehovah declared: 'My spirit shall not act toward man indefinitely in that he is also flesh. Accordingly his days shall amount to a hundred and twenty years.' (Genesis 6:3) The issuance of this divine decree in 2490 B.C.E. marked the beginning of the end for that ungodly world. Just think what that meant for those then living! Only 120 years more and Jehovah would bring 'the deluge of waters upon the earth to bring to ruin all flesh in which the force of life is active from under the heavens.' - Genesis 6:17"

  • Jehovah's Witnesses, please answer my question, Did the Society predict, in 1942 who would win World War 2?

    Watchtower, 7/15/60 page 444:

"19 Yes, the “faithful and discreet slave” was awake to the coming of 1914. In 1942 the “faithful and discreet slave” guided by Jehovah’s unerring spirit made known that the democracies would win World War II and that there would be a United Nations organization set up. Such wakefulness was concerning events that unerringly took place three years later. At the 1958 Divine Will International Assembly amazing advance information in connection with Daniel’s prophecy was given about events to occur in the immediate future. Such evidence of spiritual foresight is recorded for us in the book “Your Will Be Done on Earth.” Once again the “faithful and discreet slave” has been tipped off ahead of time for the guidance of all lovers of God. Surely one’s present security depends on his staying awake with the “faithful and discreet slave.”

Yes or no? How about an answer?

We know that there were published reports about the UN being formed as early as 1939.
