  • If you were stuck on a deserted island, who would you want with you?

    Here are the rules:

You're on a small plane that crashes on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean. I know there are a lot of variables (wildlife, location, climate, etc.), but for this game, just pretend like you don't know any of that.

You're with a group, but you can only select TWO of the following occupations that you want to ensure is in the group. You can't make up your own.

    Firefighter Chief

    Army Major

    Emergency Room Surgeon

    Professional Hunter

Engineer (to design shelter, a boat, etc.)

    Architect (to design shelter, etc.)

    Celebrity (increase attention from media)

    Botanist (plant scientists)

    Park Ranger

    Geographer

    Professional Chef

    Power Lifter (to lift stuff)

  • Question on military tattoo policy?

I'm a college student and interested in joining the Marines, and I talked on the phone to a recruiter the other day, who told me I'd be eligible for the Platoons Leader Class to be commissioned as an officer. However, after posting on here, there was basically a unanimous opinion that there was no way I'd be eligible for commission - let alone enlistment - with my tattoos.

I have 12 tattoos. Six (or seven depending on how low the collar goes) are visible in shorts and a T-shirt. Two are larger than my hand (one on my leg, and a half sleeve from my elbow to a few inches above my wrist on my right arm).

My question is, the recruiter asked me about these tattoos. I explained how many I had, how big they were, where they were - he was aware I had both forearms and both calves tattooed, and knew I had a half sleeve. If so, why did he still take down my information, talk to me about the options, explain that I'm eligible for the class, if there was no chance I'd be eligible because of my tattoos?

Also, are any branches more lax on tattoos than the Marines? And I know there's a lot of talk about loosening up about tattoo policies, but are the Marines involved in that? I know they typically do not have trouble meeting recruitment targets. And would the new policies allow me to enlist or be commissioned with my tattoos?

    Thanks

Would I be allowed to be commissioned in the USMC with my tattoos?

I spoke with a Marine recruiter the other day over the phone, and described all my tattoos and locations, and he did not say anything about them violating policy, but he also did not actually see them. I'm an 18 year old college student, and we were discussing the Platoon Leaders Class so I can be commissioned as an officer.

I was reading that policy online and I'm not sure if mine are okay. I have a total of 12, but these are the ones I am concerned about:

    - On the inside of each wrist, I have a bible verse that's about an inch from the base of my hand

    - Celtic God on the inside of my left forearm (about the size of my hand, starts an inch from my elbow and ends about 5 inches from the base of my hand.

    - On my right forearm, I have a half sleeve that starts at my elbow and extends to the Bible verse tattoo (again, about an inch from the base of my hand)

    - Memorial on the outside of my right calf (slightly larger than my hand) and a very small one (about the size of my index finger) on the outside of my left calf

    - text right below my collar bone (can hide it in short sleeve khaki shirt)

Here's a picture of the bible verses. It's before I started the half sleeve, but it doesn't go any further than the bible verse.

  • When learning programming specifically for an IPhone app, which is the best?

I have no experience in computer programming or any languages, but want to learn more and eventually create an app.

I know native IPhone apps use Objective C, but I also understand that's a pretty difficult language to learn.

I know other languages such as HTML5 might not be able to include certain features that Objective C could, but that's alright because the apps would not be very complex (would not need to access camera, etc.)., and that languages such as this are easier to learn, especially for a beginner.

My question: can you use HTML5 or a similar language to make an IPhone app? Or will you have to translate it to Objective C using phonegap or a similar tool. If so, would it be easier to simply learn Objective C, or another language and then translate it?

  • What's the point of equilibrium?

A baker will supply 27 jumbo cinnamon rolls to a cafe at a price of $4.18 each. If she is offered $3.73, then she will supply 3 fewer rolls to the cafe. The cafe's demand for jumbo cinnamon rolls is given by p = D(x) = -0.27x + 7.27. What is the equilibrium point?

  • Supply and Demand, Point of Equilibrium question?

A baker will supply 20 jumbo cinnamon rolls to a cafe at a price of $3.82 each. If she is offered $3.37, then she will supply 3 fewer rolls to the cafe. The cafe's demand for jumbo cinnamon rolls is given by p = D(x) = -0.85x + 10.82. What is the equilibrium point?

Can somebody show me how to go about solving this?

  • What will traffic be like to Coney island on Friday morning?

My friends and I are driving down to watch the Hot Dog Eating Contest.

We're coming from the New Haven, CT area via 95.

There are 40,000 people going to the contest, and it's the 4th. The site says to be there by 11:00 (starts at 12), and without traffic it takes just under two hours to get there. We're thinking that means to leave by 9:00, and we were thinking with traffic, we'd be okay if we left at 7:30.

Will we be okay? Or should we leave earlier?

  • Car dying when stopped, after getting subs and amp installed?

    I have a 2007 Mitsubishi galant with 90k miles.

I just got subwoofers, a stereo and an amp installed (by a reputable dealer), and since, there's been a hissing noise coming from behind the steering wheel (except when I brake or gas), there's sort of a pulsating rumble that you can hear from inside and outside the car, and it has died twice at stop signs (the power didn't go, but I had to move it to park and restart the car.

I'm seeing iPod nanos, classic, shuffles, touches, etc. and all these generations of each. What's the cheapest one?

    Quest'estate moltissimo mi sono divertito.

"mi sono divertito" and is labeled as a syntax/word order error.

    Luglio facevo molto caldo.

"luglio" is circled with a syntax/word order error, and I am missing a pronoun at the end of the sentence after caldo.

    I can't figure out what's wrong!
