  • How can I meet new friends at work?

I've been at a new job for about a year now. I am the only male in my department and, although the girls are friendly with me, I don't consider any of them friends—besides, they're pretty clique-y and I really don't want to get involved in their shenanigans. My job function keeps me pretty isolated so I don't really get to interact with people from other departments.

I'm pretty shy anyway and I'm not into sports at all, which is what I hear most of the other men discussing in the cafeteria. I've identified a couple other men who also eat lunch by themselves and have the appearance of someone who might have something in common with me. I'm just very uncomfortable striking up a conversation with someone I don't know. I don't know how to begin or how to keep a conversation rolling when someone simply answers my small-talk questions without giving me anything to follow-up with.

I'm a good guy, and I've got a lot of outside interests, but none of them have anything to do with what my company does. I find it easy to talk to people with whom I know I have something in common, but I don't know how to find that common ground with strangers.

I'd really like to meet someone to eat my lunch with and to share office gossip. The type of person I gravitate toward probably won't initiate a conversation either. How can I make the eight hours a day I spend at work a little less miserable with an office buddy?

  • Best way to deal with private parking violators.?

I live in an apartment complex with very limited off-street parking, one reserved space per apartment. The spaces are clearly labeled as reserved. I feel that my parking spot is an extension of my apartment, part of what I pay rent for, yet my neighbors have various visitors who feel it is OK to park in my space. I attribute most of the violations to one neighbor in particular, whom I suspect is dealing drugs.

I'd have these jerks arrested if I came home and found them in my apartment. What is the best way to handle them parking in my reserved spot?

  • Neutered cat still amorous... help?

I have two male, housecats, 11 and 6, both neutered as kittens. Recently the younger one has taken to mounting the older, otherwise more-dominant cat. The old guy doesn't seem to mind it, but I don't want to see it and I break it up when I do.

I turned a blind eye when the older cat developed a bald patch between his shoulder blades from being bitten there while he was being mounted. Unfortunately, two scrapes have formed in the bald spot and I don't have to be a forensic expert to see that they were formed by two pointy little cat teeth.

I don't really care that my cats are "getting it on". I don't even care that they're gay, although I suspect they're more "prison gay" than anything. I have to draw the line when amorous behavior turns into bloodletting. Does anybody know how to calm down a horny cat that has already been neutered?
