  • Question for all Guinea Pig Owners!?

Hi, I have three guinea pigs and I was just wondering if your guinea pigs are as picky as mine. Whenever they eat their hay, most of it usually ends up on the ground, however when I pick it up and put it back in the hay rack, they never eat it. I end up throwing ALOT of hay out. I was just wondering if that only happens with my pigs or everyones? Also, I was wondering what kind of toys you put in your guinea pigs cage to entertain them. I have lots of tubes and houses and other things, but I'm running out of new ideas, so I wanted to know how you entertain your guinea pig. Thanks for you responses!!!!!

  • Help Name My New Guinea Pig?

    Hi Everyone,

So I just adopted a female guinea pig today and I cannot think of a good name. Her name at the Humane Society was Teddy, but I don't really like that name and wanted to change it. She is mostly black with a little bit of carmel mixed in. I was gonna name get Penelope but its kinda a long name, so I was thinking about something shorter. If you have any suggestions, that would be great. Thanks!

  • Guinea Pig Help!!!!!!!?

So I just bought two new female guinea pigs. They both get along perfectly fine, however yesterday one of them (her name is Lucy) started purring at the other (her name is Ethel). Lucy seems to stalk Ethel around the cage and purrs at her. Lucy will go face to face with Ethel while purring, but then Ethel will run around the cage and popcorn and Lucy will follow her, still purring and popcorning. Is this okay? I know popcoring means there happy and sometimes purring does too, but I wasnt sure if this is normal behavior. Lucy just started to do this to Ethel about two days ago so its a new behavior. Any advice/input wouuld be great!

  • What type of bedding is best for a guinea pig?

I am currently using the carefresh bedding, which I love, however its a little expensive. I just bought two new guinea pigs and I made a C&C cage for them, however because its so big, it takes A LOT of bedding. I was wondering if any of you know an alternative bedding that will work well for guinea pigs. I know that pine and cedar are bad, but what about Aspen (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_... bedding? All comments are welcomed. Thanks for the help!

  • Introducing A new Guinea Pig to another?

I just bought a new guinea pig three days ago and was thinking about going back to get another one (I feel like she needs some company, lol). The one I just purchased is female, so obviously I would get another female. So what I was wondering is how do I go about doing this? I read some tips on line, but everyone says something different. So I am really looking for someone who has introduced two guinea pigs to another to answer this question. Thanks!

  • How much should feed my guinea pig?

I have both pellets and timothy hay in all the time, but my question is about fresh fruits and vegtables. I have been giving her a piece of green pepper everyday and she loves it. My question is, is how much can i give her? Is there such thing as feeding a guinea pig too much fruits and vegtables? I've done research but i keep reading mixed answers so i thought i would ask the question on here. Thanks for the info!

  • Sea Monkey's!!!!!!!!?

So I just bought a kit today at Toy's R Us for Sea Monkey's. You have to wait 24hrs for the water to purify so I will be able to put the Sea Monkey Eggs in tomorrow, but I was wondering if they actually work? I also heard that three days after you put the Sea Monkey's in, they produce eggs, is this true? Any other interesting facts or suggestions about Sea Monkeys that you can think of would be great! I have never had sea monkeys before and I am kinda excited to try them tomorrow, lol!

  • Two Questions about Gerbils!!!!?

So I just have a couple of questions....

    1. How many gerbils can you have in a cage?

-- I currently have two gerbils (both male) and was thinking about getting one to two more (I have a very large cage, so they would all have plenty of room to exercise). Both of my current gerbils have no idea how to run on the wheel, so I was thinking that maybe if I introduced one/two that did, they would follow the new gerbils lead. If they didnt thats fine, I guess then I would just have another gerbil lol, which is always fun! I would try to introduced them using the split cage method, which leads to my second question...

    2. What exactly is the split cage method?

-- I understand that you obviously split up the cage so they can get used to each others scents and etc. However, how long do you leave them split? Do most gerbils get along after you use this method? Any other special tips or hints that you can think of, lol!

I have been reading websites about the split cage method and most say its very successful, but I always like other opinions before I try something. So let me know what you think. If you have any suggestions, let me know. Any help would be great, Thanks!

  • My Gerbils won't use their wheel...?

Is there any way i can correct this? I know that some won't run on the wheel if they are too small, but I know my wheel is good size. I was thinking I would give it more time because I just bought them both yesterday, but I found it odd that they have yet to run on it. They are about 4 to 6 weeks old (the pet store was not sure on the age, lol), so they are not full grown and I was thinking maybe they will grow into it?

  • cleaning a hamster cage...?

so I know you use white vinegar and water however I'm not sure about the ratio. I'm thinking it is 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water, but I just wanted to see if anyone else knows for sure.

  • Inactive Hamster....?

Hi, I have a hamster who is about 11 months old and he has become very inactive. He used to run on his wheel all the time at night, however has stopped doing this and now does not even go on it. He is eating and drinking and walks around his cage a little bit at night. However mostly what he does is sleep, during the days time and at night. This inactivity has been going on for about two to three weeks now and I was just wondering if this is normal or if I should go to the vet?
