How to deal with someone who insults my art...?
When they aren't nearly at my level.
Please understand that I am VERY modest about my skill level, and I NEVER talk to my friends in a stuck-up or conceited way, but, for purposes I am about to explain, it is necessary that you understand that I am a better artist than almost all my friends.
By better artist I mean: I understand anatomy well, in addition to proportions of the body. I understand composition of a page well and can do pieces of art that look balanced and 'right'. I am EXTREMELY dedicated to my art and spend hours studying art, practicing, and killing myself until I improve.
Because I go to a school dedicated to the visual/performing arts, academics, and technology, there are a lot of visual artists at my school. Because of this, most of my friends are artists.
I understand that it is asking too much for high school students to produce artwork that is advanced and resembles professional art - we're all still learning! I'm completely fine with the kids around me still being beginners with art or still not understanding concepts about it.
Often when I draw, my friends will look at my art and sigh and say "I hate you." I know they're saying this to compliment me, but I never say I'm better than them. I try to be as modest as possible.
But what REALLY irks me is when people look at my art, people who don't understand proportions/anatomy/etc. and tell me that something doesn't look right, or looks off. I understand that anyone can tell whether or not something looks correct because they visually know how things should appear, but when they themselves cannot draw it I become very irritated. I never critique other peoples art unless they ask me to. But when it comes to these people, they give unwanted critique that I don't value and that upsets me.
Have you ever been in a situation like this? I feel really aggravated with these unwanted comments.
11 AnswersEtiquette10 years agoShould I get a Mac or PC?
All of my life, I have used PCs. This isn't because of any preference, they're just what was around at the time for me to use. My parents are considering getting me a laptop, so I really want to get one that will last a long time and will work well. I know that Macs apparently don't get viruses and take less time to start up/download stuff, etc. I don't see myself using any of the extremely fancy stuff, like photo editing, but I might use Photoshop or Manga Studio for art. I don't really play games on the computer, I mostly use it for Microsoft or to use the internet. I want something that will work quickly, be able to support possible accessories, and is in a reasonable price range -- that is, nothing extremely over the top or insane. What should I get?
5 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoMy mom is drunk, please help?
This is the second time I've witnessed my mom drunk. My dad is here but my sister left. My mom is very upset and sobbing and won't listen to me. She is an alcoholic and was sober for many years but recently she's been very stressed. I'm very upset right now and don't know what to do. I keep telling her to go to sleep but she won't. I'm afraid she's going to leave the house like last time and get hurt. I'm very scared, PLEASE help.
7 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoAm I taming my rats correctly?
So I couple months ago, I got two young female rats, about two months old. They were very timid and would urinate and defecate whenever I tried to hold them, and one of them wouldn't accept food from me at all. Several weeks later, one of my rats gave birth to ten babies. I had no idea she was pregnant, and this was extremely overwhelming for me. I immediately separated the other rat (her sister) and let them be. I held them rarely and just tried to let them get used to my presence instead of force myself upon them.
The babies are about four weeks now and I've moved my other rat back into the cage. I also purchased a larger cage that they they can move more freely in. They have a wheel and a plastic home that many of them can fit into. I'm not planning on keeping any of the babies.
Anyways, my rats no longer are afraid of me, but they don't seem interested in me at all. I'll take the two sisters out and they'll run all around and onto me and off of me, but they mostly interact with one another. I feel ignored, and I'm not sure if I'm making any sort of bond with them.
I had a rat before them that I had an extremely tight bond with, and it devastated me when she died. Is it wrong of me to think they'll have any kind of connection with me? I feel like I'm making little progress with them.
5 AnswersRodents1 decade agoIs my rat retarded (serious)?
I just got two three-month old rats on Saturday, and they're both still very timid and wary around me. I noticed after a few days that she wasn't very responsive. She would sit in the same spot for hours, barely moving her whiskers with her eyes open, staring forward. When I offer her food, she does nothing until I prod her with it. Then she sniffs it and either takes it or doesn't. I don't know if there is something wrong with her or if she's just really scared, but I'm worried about her. She is a hooded rat with black eyes.
5 AnswersRodents1 decade agoGuys: Is a tomboy unappealing?
Well, I'll start off by saying that TV probably isn't the best place to look when searching for answers to life. That being said, it seems like guys (on and off TV) are always after the beautiful, graceful girl. She has great fashion sense, dances (or some other girly (lame) sport), and has lots of stupid friends. She doesn't really have to be smart, but she can be.
As you can see, that isn't me. My fashion sense consists of a t-shirt, an open flannel (or a sweater), some semi-skinny jeans, and some colorful Converse. I do karate, and I'm an artist. I avoid girly-girls like the plague and hang out with other artist people.
I'm not graceful. I pretty much do my own thing. And my hair is never down.
What do you think? Do you prefer girly-girls over more independent girls?
3 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoWhat pet should I get?
At the moment, I own two female rats who I adore. They are both almost two years old and I am very sad that they are almost at the end of their lifespan. I love them because they are extremely smart and have their own distinct personalities, and it doesn't hurt that they are easy to take care of and cuddly.
I was wondering what pet I should get after they pass on. I would like something that is intelligent, has about a 5-year lifespan, is easy to care for and tame, and that does not have to be fed other animals or insects.
I can't get a bird, or at least one that is loud, and I would prefer something soft, but a lizard is okay with me, too. I do not want a snake or a frog.
6 AnswersOther - Pets1 decade agoWhy do people fear/hate albinos?
I'm really fascinated by people who are albinos, and think it's a really cool trait to have. For some reason, though, it seems like many people are afraid of them. Any ideas?
9 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoHow do I find the game channel on my TV?
I have a Nintendo Wii, and before we switched to DirecTV I could always find the game channel a few channels beneath channel 2, but now, thanks to DTV, whenever I go beneath channel 2 it goes to 62-2. I can't find the game channel anywhere.

Is this high score? I'm in honors classes and get mostly A's with a few B's. I took an online test and was kind of disappointed. I didn't expect to get a genius IQ, but I was expecting something more than 'a little bit above average'.

Suppose f(x) = 5x and g(x) = 1/x. Find the following.
1) f(x) - g(x)
2) f(x) * g(x)
3) g(-3) * f(-8) + 16
Would you please explain how to do these problems step by step? Thank you so much.
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoNeed some advice with my math teacher?
I hate my math teacher. Yes, hate. I've never hated anyone, like, TRULY, hated anybody before, until I started taking her class.
First of all, I have understood math all of my life. I have gotten A's in math from grade 1. Now, I don't know if I suddenly become incapable of comprehending math, or this teacher is just horrible, but somehow I ended up failing her class last term.
Now, since then, I realized that I had many missing assignments and have raised my grade to a B. But I am currently extremely worried about my grade. What she is teaching now is incredibly complicated, and what makes it even worse is that she only teaches us about half of what we need to know.
She gives us piles of homework and I only understand about two problems, and I get the rest wrong. She gives us homework on things she hasn't even taught us and just expects us to understand.
So, when I come across one of these problems, I check the book for help - and receive none at all.
Whenever I ask her for help (which is a lot) she yells and makes me feel like a complete idiot. Furthermore, she only halfway completes a problem. She says 'and you can figure out the rest'. No, I can't figure out the rest, or maybe I would be getting a higher score in your class.
She's an incredibly intimidating teacher and she doesn't hesitate to yell at a completely innocent person if she receives news she doesn't like, or they make an error.
What makes me even angrier is that when she goes around and collects scores on our homework, everybody magically has A's and B's on their homework, while I got a 64%. Either everybody is lying, or I'm a complete moron. Whenever I ask anybody if they understand their class, they widen their eyes and begin the same ramble I'm going on about.
I have tried numerous times to switch out of her class, and my councelor always replies with 'it has to be a mutual agreement' - meaning that my teacher has to OK me transferring to a different class - and she never does. She always goes on about how she 'has faith in me' and how 'she'll offer the help I need'.
I really do not want to spend my nutrition and lunch sitting in her classroom in that toxic environment, receiving worthless help.
I'm at the point where I'm dreading the thought of her class, and thinking about her stirrs deep resentment.
Please, help me. I really need some advice. I've told my parents and all they say is to 'deal with it', or 'stay in at nutrition and lunch'.
3 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoWhat manga should I read?
I really enjoy reading a good manga, however I'm very picky about what I'll read. I absolutely DO NOT like romances, shouji, whatever it's called. I love fantasy/sci-fi, as long as it has a good plot and interesting characters. I love a good bad guy. A funny manga is an extra bonus, but it isn't necessary. Here are a few mangas I have read and enjoyed:
Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Naruto.
My favorite so far has been Fullmetal Alchemist.
Thanks!

On the first day of the new job, Mike was sent to a bakery by his boss. Each of 18 workers gave him an order for either a roll or a bran muffin. The rolls cost $0.40 each, and the muffins cost $0.55 each. His boss wrote a company check for $9.15. On the way to the store Mike lost the order, but was able to figure out what the order had to be. What was the order?
I would really appreciate if you took me through this step-by-step. Thanks! :)
