I have a 3 year old kid, a boy. I am 22 years old, happily married, and happily a nursing student. Pretty much my life in a nutshell. ^_^ I <3 the biological sciences! Mainly involving humans and bacteria.

  • Why do people get upset at those with an only child?

Hey, so...it seems like people generally have issues because I don't want anymore children. I have one child, and the drive for more kids is nonexistent. Why do I generally get negative responses after answering "no" to "So, are you having more kids?". My husband's family is quite upset and perturbed that I don't want anymore. I tend to feel guilty, like there is something wrong with me. Any suggestions about how to handle this stuff when it comes up? Or, am I weird for thinking this? Thanks. :D No mean comments, please. =/

  • Anyone an expert on kids and vomitus?

My son, who is 2 and-a-half, was up from 2 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. vomiting. The poor kid vomited every 10-15 minutes, then over time it gradually became longer intervals between vomiting until it completely subsided at around 9:30 a.m. He couldn't hold liquids down (not even a tsp. of water), but now he is drinking just fine. He is up playing just fine now. It couldn't have been food poisoning, because my husband and I didn't get sick, and we all had the same thing for dinner. What the heck happened? I'm really bewildered, and was wondering if other parents have experienced this before. He's my first and only child. Thanks in advance.

  • My one-year-old still has bottles during the day. Does anyone else do this?

Does he still need bottles? He has a doctor's appointment tomorrow for his one-year check-up, but I wanted to ask anyway.

    He just turned one yesterday.

  • How to get an 11-month-old to sleep...?

I have a couple questions about putting my son to bed.

    1) Is it normal for him to get up during the night to eat if he's almost a year old? I've gotten conflicting answers about this. Yes, I do feed him twice during the night. I don't know if it's from comfort or hunger, but I always give him a bottle and that seems to do the trick.

    2) How can I get my son to sleep at night without 30+ of rocking him to sleep? I can't just lay down with him and cuddle him because he will cry unless I rock him. I do not want to let him "cry it out" at all. How do you get your one-year-old (or your child close to the age) to sleep at night?

    Thanks. (:

  • If you had baby #1 unplanned, did you plan baby #2?

I'm curious. My son wasn't necessarily planned, but he wasn't a complete surprise, either. I'm on birth control now, so I know that there is a greater chance of not getting pregnant (which is a good thing for our family right now). Did you plan baby #2, or not? and why? (:

  • Should an 11-month-old still be waking up in the night to feed?

My son still gets up twice in the night to eat. I was wondering if this was truly hunger or it was merely part of his routine and comfort....and how can I tell the difference?

  • Does having a c-section cause bowel problems (TMI)?

...or does it make it worse? I've had problems with constipation for as long as I can remember, but it seems like after I had my son a year ago, things have been worse for me. Can a c-section cause this?

I didn't know what category to ask this in, but I figured other moms might have had problems, too. Maybe? :) Thanks.

    Serious answers, please.

  • Is this emotionally healthy for an 11-month-old?

Now, there's no reason why he wouldn't be emotionally unhealthy. I'm just a worry-wort...but...

Is it normal for an 11-month-old baby to get bored with or tired of being around his mother all the time? My son shows lots of enthusiasm and excitement around his grandparents, but not really around me. He tries to show off to them all the time, but never around me. Am I worrying too much here, or is this normal? He's my only child, so I'm pretty clueless. Thanks, and no rude answers, please.

  • When should I see a doctor about this?

I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but it seems like most women get their periods by now. My son is 11 months old, and he hasn't been nursing very much at all for a couple months. Now, he nurses about 2 or 3 times a day, but it's only at naptime and bedtime. It's not a meal, more for comfort.

So, when do I need to see a doctor about not having a period? It just doesn't seem normal to me...most women have had theirs by the time their child was almost a year old.

  • What dresses would look good with these boots?

I bought these boots today in tan:

    http://www.dsw.com/dsw_shoes/catalog/product.jsp?i...

I love them, but I have no idea what to wear with them! I know jeans would look good, but what about skirts or dresses? I would love some dress ideas to go with them. I like boots & dresses together.

    Links? :) Thanks.

  • How difficult was it to wean your baby?

....from nursing? I'd like to be done when he turns one. He's 10 months old right now.

I know about the WHO recommendations, I'm not trying to start a debate, please. :)

  • How much sleep should my 10-month-old be getting?

He usually sleeps 8 hours at night. He slept for 9 hours last night. He also takes a 1.5 to 2 hour nap everyday. Is he getting enough sleep?

I had to delete the other question because of how poorly typed it was...I didn't get much sleep. :P

  • 'Babying' the first child too much?

...i.e., doing everything for them. I have a tendency to do this with my son. Please tell me I'm not the only one that does this! :P If any other helpful parents could give me techniques to teach my son how to be independent in little way (my son is 10 months old), that would be great.

I personally think they're adorable. What are your favorites (if any)?

Example: I like the name Sawyer a lot.

  • I have a couple questions about my 10-month-old boy?

    1) He has become way more difficult lately! :) He fights going to sleep at naps, and he fusses about sitting in his highchair to eat now. Is there any way I can get him to sleep and eat during the day? He is on a regular schedule. He likes to fight going to sleep lately, though. Did/does your baby do this, too? He goes to bed at night really well at the same time, around 9 p.m.

    2) My son is really cuddly and affectionate. Is this his personality coming through or is this short-lived? I hope he's like this naturally. (:

    Thanks, all.

  • When did your baby say his/her first word?

...or can anyone tell me the earliest babies say their first word (meaning, they know what they are saying, not just saying a random word)?
