  • Where can i go to get holes drilled / possibly purchase metal too?

Long story short I need a new mounting bracket for motorcycle speedometer. I figured out where to place it however i need a piece of metal and holes drilled out ( for screws to attach to the bike )

Any store / place do this kind of thing where they have metal that can be either cut to size that i need and possibly drilled for me.

Please don't say to drill on my own since i know i can do that but I also know that a drill press can more accurately and cleanly make the holes.

  • will clear coat reinforce or weaken plasti dip?

i plastidipped my wheels and gas tank on motorcycle, and i was wondering will spraying clear coat on top of that weaken or reinforce the plasti dip to last longer. Did one wheel but thinking if i should do the other, makes it a smoother surface.

would plastidip glossifier protect the plastidip more?

  • Should i down grade motorcycles to a calmer one?

Upgraded from the v star 650 a cruiser with 40 hp to a fz6 "sport bike" with 97hp.

about two weeks ago I had a car pull out into my lane i swerved around him but bike lost traction high sided.

Fixed the damage but now i ride scared of the power band.

Before got into that 7 k + zone but now get worried going near it as the front wheel gets light and bike really starts a pulling!

Would getting a smaller / less powerful bike make me feel safer like I'm not going to fly off if i go past half throttle?

  • Motorcycle randomly loses power and shuts down.?

Just bought a 2013 honda shadow 750 from private seller, only 3500 miles on bike. however when riding bike for some reason loses engine, feels like one of the cylinders stops firing

Engine light goes on and motorcycle is unable to gain power, if i pull i wait and pull in the clutch it restarts and then can ride again for a bit before doing it again. At a certain point however the bike would even turn off, but would start back up again no problems.

i say it feels like one cylinder stops firing is because engine sound changes, bike is unable to climb revs / pull bike. however still running. This is fixed by either turning engine kill switch on / off and turning bike on again.

bike has 2 spark plugs per cylinder and though it could be bad spark plug but sometimes it will run for 15+ miles without giving me problem and then in a course of 1 mile i wont be able to get past 30mph ( ON THE HIGHWAY )

Bike has a non stock air intake, exhaust, and power commander.

Any more info needed ask away, if anyone had idea where to start looking for the issue?

Motorcycle accident, driver drove away no info? what can i do?

I am from NYC this occured on 10/31/14

Going to use the image to explain what happened. This happened around 8pm after got out of college

red is me on motorcycle i was going straight around 30 mph, when blue car wanting to turn left entered my side of the road. he saw me and stopped there.

There was a car to my right and behind so could not swap lanes while slowing down, i slowed down but still had to swerve fast to avoid him.

At which point as i am passing him not sure what happens but my bike looses control ( back wheel skids left and right before chucking me off, i got no clue what happened i just know i ended up on the ground several feet away. where the purple is.

it could be possible he clipped the back of my bike as i passed him.

My first train of though was to pick up the bike and to feel my injuries ( i was going slower then speed limit so my injuries are just some road rash on my shoulder elbow and back not too deep )

Someone helped me get bike up that was walking by, i then realized wait wheres that car, when i looked around he was gone, guaranteed he saw me because we made eye contact and i honked at him when he pulled in my lane. Shaken up and thinking no clue where he is i drove home to care for my injures. What can i do now will the cops help me?

  • spray paint / plastidip over body filler over motorcycle damage damage?

Got a motorcycle that had a high side crash so there is damage all over, gas tank, left mirror broke off, plastic fairing damaged right side. Now unfortunatly the bike is not all the popular so getting used parts is almost a no go without spending at least 600$, can get new front and gas tank but that would still land me in the 200$ and would have to put lots of time rewiring and moving everything. rather not. I'm thinking of using body filler to fill in the gas tank dent, and maybe for the place in the fairing. Then i would repaint the gas tank and front fairing ( It does not have full plastics just front so no need to match ) but what would be the smoothest option to paint it, should i spray paint and top off with plasti dip? or just plastidip maybe clear coat on top so it has that shimmer ( i want the bike to look good again, like new if i could

  • Change gear ratio on motorcycle? to a higher one? ( not dropping teeth for accelration but adding them )?

So most people drop sprockets in front, and add on rear to get more acceleration, however i got an fz6 and feel like got plently of power and i dont need more acceleation for racing, and allmost never use full throttle ( wheelies happen bike becomes unstable. )

i know people say thats more "top end" dont really get what that means, more top speed? dont need it as it is really anything past 120 is rearlly used.

What im looking for is that I want the bike to stop the death wobble at 8-11k rpm.

and possibly increase my mpg since sometimes ride in 6th gear on highway.

Now am wondering would i have enough power at low rpms such as when lane splitting and need to get away quick, and lets say i do want to be fast wouldn't it be just as efficent if i was in 2nd gear with higher sprocket vs 3rd gear with smaller sprocket ( sure it gets better acceleration per gear but that boost ends sooner, and would this mean my gear would be that much longer example 66mph first gear instead of 60?

I Would only change it just a little like +1 front maybe -2 back ( maybe ) or will -1 be enough since its 16/46 stock?

anyone went for bigger sprockets and was happy? ( what effect did it have on your motorcycle?

  • will a v star 650 pipe be compatible with a v star 1100?

i ride 2 up most of the time and need a slightly more powerful bike. have a 650 and was looking into the 1100 and just swap parts that i got custom for the 650 such exhaust ( vance and hines cruzers ) and few other things ( but those are universal so mostly just wondering about pipes

  • what is a Comfortable motorcycle for both rider and passenger?

got a v star 650, and the passenger seat is.... well not very pleasant most passengers after about 30 minutes complain, after an hr the person after hitting a bump said stop the bike and hopped off for a break. ( Suspension is good but bumps still hit you ) so a comfy stock seat is a must

For me i get a lot of neck / upper back pain while riding, not sure if thats maybe fixable by windscreen if anyone has experiance please share!, Also I want to put it keep it towards the kawasaki, suzuki, yamaha, or honda bikes as I am a college student not with a lot of money will buy used, preferably more powerful since i do a lot of 2 up riding usually 50+ miles

  • Whats a good motorcycle for 2 up comfort, but still somewhat handles good!?

Currently got a V star 650 custom ( it is 650 engine in 1100 frame ) and i like the bike, but when with a passenger which is often the bike just does not feel like it has the get up and go. Now i do want the bike to be able to carry me and a passenger when I get on the highway with more power, however I live in brooklyn NY and also need that bike to be as maneuverable as my v star ( 500 pounds ) ( no sports bikes, they did not feel comfy for me, i use the bike daily, some considerations were cruisers of 1000+ cc and maybe something like the bandit, sv650, maybe even gs500 ( not sure it will pull as much as id like though ) I do not need top speed as much as acceleration as getting on off exits and passing cars. Thank you all!

  • What does peak mean for electric motors?

So was looking at electric motors thinking about building electric motorcycle, but got a problem! The motor don't know what it means like the example of 6.4 hp Cont, 19.3 hp Peak @ 48 Volts , what does that peak mean? since i'm looking at 1 motor peak 1/2 min other can peak 1 minute

    http://www.cloudelectric.com/product-p/mo-me0708.h...

    http://www.cloudelectric.com/product-p/mo-me0909.h...

these are the two motors similar characteristics except peak, trying to figure out if peak means like over drive? you can get more power for limited time, but wondering what does that mean in terms of what happens when the 1 minute of "peak" is up?

    Thank you!

  • Is having a motorcycle in NYC depressing?

I ride practically daily and noticed that sometimes its not as fun as i wish for, now don't get me wrong its a blast when i can find a curve or turn or something. But most of the time its either straight line or waiting at a red light... a lot of red lights and frankly its annoying. And the speed limits too, so you feel the burst of power for about 1-2 seconds then better let off the gas or your speeding.

I was just wondering if anyone else felt that way that NYC that your bike is really limited by the roads and laws ( watch a few you tube videos of guys in rural areas going around bends and turns and nothing but open road and compare to the 300 ft you can go before you hit the next red light.

  • Should there be harsher penalties for driving laws when a motorcycle is involved?

My main though is for tailgating, for example if you tail gate a car you are annoying, reckless and will cause and accident.

If you tail gate a motorcycle, you are annoying, reckless, and you scary as **** to the motorcycle and you will probably ending up murdering someone.

  • Should try to get people tickets for texting and driving?

So i ride a motorcycle and I know that speeding cops have a field day with their speed traps, but what about people on their phones? texting in particular no radar can detect it.

like today i was behind a car and we were moving pretty slow and I can see his face in mirror eyes dropping every second and back on road and then back down. At red light i pull up to him and told him to get the F off his phone, he said i was just at the light I told him i was watching his eyes, i was even beeping at him for 2 blocks he didn't seem to notice nor check once what that was :/ he apologized though so it was w/e hopefully he stops but I had seen other incidence where its a T intersection with a yellow flashing light for caution, and I see dude drive past eyes glued down, It is a long straight road but still.

I'm thinking about getting a camera and recording this and sending to cops or something so these schmucks learn their lesson before I or someone else gets rear ended or clipped and end up dead. Or am I just being an A hole?

  • Got a speeding ticket, should i fight it and will there be higher fees if i lose?

I am coming home like usual same highway everyday then my exit, highway speed limit is 50, then after exit its 3 large lanes no side entrances for about a half mile as is a 30 zone. I'm on a cruiser motorcycle as I am getting ready to get off i switch lane and immediately get blinded by someone who is tailgating me hard, i start getting off the exit and am slowing down with the tailgater up my A** literaly. let me put it like this at night if your one car away in my mirrors i can maybe make up the shape of your car, anything beyond that your just a blurry headlight. This guy had a silver bmw sadan probably an M class, yes he was tailgating me that close for enough time that i can identify the car, an inch closer and id tell you when his registration expires. So honestly my concern was not my speedometer, it was how close was he and how soon can i switch lanes so i can get away from him. got an opportunity and moved over while he reentered the highway. Here as i slow down coming to an intersection an officer lights me up, claiming i was doing 42 in a 30. he was nice and made it 40 in a 30. Now im thinking to go fight the ticket in the defense of slowing down drastically would of put me in danger, plus the fact that i was coming off from a 50 means i was not traveling along this road speeding up but i was slowing down in fact and my speed shows it. Also possibly the officer did not see the other car but i could ask if he clocked me or the car behind me.

  • speedometer on gas tank bad idea?

So i had 3 bikes 2 with speedometer on gas tank and 1 without, and had driven cars...

now must say the time it takes to check your speed is way too long, like you actually have to take your eyes off the road to look at it, and i don't always do that especially when in a area with lots of cars.

I'm just thinking because I had this issue where i got a ticket i was getting off highway and it merges into a 3 lane road, i came from left side, and very shortly after exit there is an entrance to highway again, so as i come off you have to tango with cars getting right while they try get left in a matter of feet before your opportunity ends to exit highway and theirs to enter. and as that was happening a few seconds down the road a cop lit me up going 42 in a "30" during that ordeal after getting off highway i didint look at my speedometer once cause I did a couple times and ended up way to close to cars where i had to slam breaks or swerve around. On top of that my bike picks up speed quickly, its cruiser but still only takes a half a second at quarter throttle to get 5 mph higher. now i don't argue with the cop and he lowered it to "40" in a 30... but was thinking how inefficient the idea of doing that is, on top of that had to replace tank after had huge dent in it and i had hard time finding one, while my neighbor with speedometer on handlebars changes gas tank based on his mood to any size and shape....

What do you think are tank speedometers bad? whats your experience?

  • motorcycle makes loud back fire when starting sometimes?

So heres the deal sometimes after bike has been sitting a while ( usualy overnight or something ) and i go start it it makes this horribly horribly loud gunshot like sound, just once then its starts right up and purrs.

heres the deal i started bike in backyard which is usualy finish since im there for a couple seconds and its day time, but when it did that backfire ( with bike facing neighbors window ) he went ballistic screaming and saying how bike will get stolen real quick all that... and now i just started classes where i gotta leave around 7:30 and even tho i was on the street the bang happened again and its like a quiet neighborhood so YOU HEAR IT!

now i dont really care about neighbor doing anything to me but i worry about my baby cuz what if something happens.

back to what i want tho i know its from unburnt gas in exhaust but what can i do about it?

  • solenoid got stuck in on position then starter motor stopped engaging?

So my solenoid got stuck already 4 times, , engine off kill switch off, trying start, i put it in neutral let bike start it stopped.

a few days later again, this time battery died as i forgot to let bike start up, just tried turn off. when charged battery and reinserted, now the starter motor makes this spinning sound instead of clicking. and almost wont engage engine ( starting is hell )

had to push start to go home, so engine works no issues.

bike is a 2009 kymco venox

this is an outside view of bike with noise. no starting

    http://youtu.be/RogvqaMjUK4

starter motor spins but really wont engage, heres a video of i opened the oil screw to see starter motor spin, at the end the solenoid got stuck AGAIN , its not the ignition switch, i unplugged it and it kept going, but when i unplug ( remove connection from the solenoid, it stopped trying to start.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muG0qYWxsaU&feature...

you can hear it catch once or twice

im gona buy new solenoid but what alse to look for?

  • motorcycle starter started making spinning sound rather then clicking?

Got a practically new bike, like 60 something miles was starting good no issues, but kept stalling a lot so kept using starter a lot. my battery ended up dying, recharged it over night, then in morning when i went and re attached it.

instead of the usual clicking noise, i was getting a spinning/ grinding noise from starter. and engine was really hard to start, but once started and warmed up, usually got it started within a second, even though noise still present. BUt when at night engine cooled off, hell starting it, you would hear engine catch once every few secs i tried but no starting it cold, had to push start.

Why is it making this noise?
