First, please tell me if I am correct:

You first write the code using whatever programming language, then you use a specific compiler program to compile the code into binary, computer language to make the program you wrote work.

If I am not correct about something, please tell me what I am not correct about.

Secondly, if compilers are programs, just like Notepad, Calculator, etc, then how were they made?

If they were made using another compiler, then how was the very first compiler made?

I have heard this sound in Ubuntu 11.04, and I love it because of its difference to the Windows 7 login sound, which I hear often when as I login to my account.
