  • Lookin for Quality toddler pool with slide?

I have read nothing but horrible reviews!

I don't really care if it works NEXT year but it needs to work ALL summer.

Ideally I would like it to be big enough I can sit in it with her. I have searched and the "bonzia" slides all get horrible reviews saying photos are misleading. I will travel to buy it, or order online. Whatever it takes I really want to get my daughter one for her birthday! Any info will help- thanks!

  • Dolley Madison and breastfeeding?

Although Dolley has left us so many letters to document her life and others of her time and situation. I'm having a hard time finding anything about her days as a new mother. Her youngest son was born in 1792 and died in 1793 of yellow fever. Would she have still been nursing her youngest son? In 1792 would a wife of a young lawyer have hired a wet nurse? What was the typical duration of breastfeeding at this time? ANY and ALL answers are helpful. Thank you.

  • Trying to find a GOOD doctor in a small town?

I recently moved from Alaska to Kentucky. I really need to find a new family doctor. I have already been to an after hours clinic here, when my daughter and I had a BAD case of thrush. Although, after arguing with the poor doctor I did get what we needed I would have much rather gone to a family doctor. The problem is this is a small town in the south, and I am having a very hard time finding a doctor I'm willing to go see. I called the ONE lactation consultant in town today, and she said she could not recommend a SINGLE doctor that is encouraging of breastfeeding, and I'm nursing my almost 2 year old so this will not do! THis is not the only thing I'm looking for in a doctor but it is important! I also hope to find a doctor that is supportive of me raising my daughter vegetarian, attachment parenting ect. I don't know what to do anymore, no websites even have my town on their radar for reviews. So questions:

Any great websites for doctor reviews I'm missing?

What are the best places to call for Doctor recommendations?

Has anyone tried having their primary care provider being over an hour away ?(seems risky.)

Someone recommended looking for a DO rather than an MD, is there that much of a difference in care and approach?

  • Someone else getting toddler to sleep?

I'm starting a new job after not working for 4 months, at my last job I got to take my daughter with me to work, so there were no problems. Now, I'm working 3-11pm. I can wake up with my daughter, give her a nap and everything before I have to leave. But, it would be easier on her and my mom (who is watching her) if she would go to sleep around 9 or 10. My daughter is SUPER comfortable with my mom, they are together all the time, if it wasn't for the fact that my daughter is still nursing she would probably choose my mom over me! That being said, my daughter will not go to sleep for anyone but me. We co-sleep and I could go trade places with my mom at 11:30, so my daughter still wakes up to me BUT she won't fall asleep with her. Any great tips your caregivers, husbands, or grandparents used to get your little ones to sleep while you were away?

  • Did you give your breastfed toddler chewable vitamins?

If so, at what age? What were YOUR doctor's feelings on it, if any?

  • Tom Kah Gai/ Surin Recipe?

I have had many versions of this coconut soup, and have tried a few recipes but non that compare to the soup at Surin West or Surin East in Birmingham Alabama. Has anyone had this? I have searched for their recipe with no luck. I'm also open to any fantastic- I mean really awesome recipes for this soup even if you have never been to this restaurant. I have made it before but how do I make it amazing. Also at Surin they only call it: "Spicy Coconut Soup" so maybe it varies from traditional tom kah gai? In their recipe it has tofu and mushrooms but no other visible vegetables.

  • American Theme Gift Ideas/ cupcakes?

My Dad's wife has been living/ working in America for several years and is finally getting her citizenship. I want to get her an "American Woman" kit with both real and gag gifts in it. Any ideas? I also want to make American themed cupcakes with something other than a flag, like eagles or something a little more creative. All ideas are welcome!

  • Carboard Box Ideas Anyone?

I have a about 10 boxes that vary from diaper boxes to computer boxes in size, I could probably get an even bigger one if needed. I had them all piled up to recycle when it came to me that it would be soooo cool to make something for my daughter (20 months.) She doesn't really know what a rocket is, so I don't think she would like that. She might like a house or car or something- does anyone know a cool twist to these? A unique idea? Tips for me? I am fairly artistic, and have most common craft supplies. Please nothing that requires a $50 trip to Lowes! Anyway- thanks for any thoughts.

  • Do I NEED to get a potty chair, or is it better not to?

My 20 month old is very interested in the potty. She like putting paper in it, even sitting on it and pretending to potty but can't balance well. I don't want to push potty training- I think she will do it on her own eventually, but should I buy a cheap potty chair that's easier for her to sit on- or go straight to the real one? Any stories of your own experiences are welcome.

  • Doctor prescribing formula over breastmilk?!?!?

This blew my mind to hear, and I'm just wondering if anyone had encountered this or has any insight as to why this might be. I am a MAJOR advocate of nursing, my daughter is 15 months and still on the boob, and will be as long as she likes. But I have a friend of my family with a new teenage mother in her home, who although she is quite young was dead set on breast feeding. However her doctor (more than one doctor in the same practice) is insisting on giving the baby FORMULA ONLY until the baby has gained enough wait to start him on breast milk. She is pumping as saving it of course but, I am baffled. My doctor had be give my underweight preemie bottles of pumped breast milk because she was burning too many calories trying to nurse at first but they said it was fine and encouraged filling the bottles with breast milk rather than formula. Any Ideas? Is the doctor coo-koo or is there a method to the madness?

  • Solids at six months, who doesn't know yet?

People are CONSTANTLY giving advice on here about starting solids before six months, and saying their doctors are recommending it and encouraging others to do the same. Someone even said preemies needed to start solids EARLIER than other babies so they can catch up. This isn't a rant or a question about my own child (10 months and started solids at six months.)

My question is WHO is doing this?

Is there a country where this is more common, I know a lot of answers ar international, so where?

Are there website links recommending this??? If so which ones???

Where is the support/ evidence backing up this argument?

There is plenty of info about six month solids, but I'm not ranting I REALLY would like to review the information for my own knowledge whether I agree or not.

So any links, any info please.

  • Teen moms and breastfeeding?

Why did you choose to breast or bottle feed?

    What influenced your decision?

If you did breastfeed and then quit because it was too hard, would you have continued if you had more support?

I will be in living in the same house as a very young mother to be soon and would like to help her breastfeed if she is interested, I myself am 20 and still nursing my 10 month old. Any comments are helpful even ones about bottle feeding, my desire is to understand the way a teenage mother makes the decision of how to feed her baby. I don't wish to force m views on anyone, only to offer my help and support if it is wanted.

  • Teen Moms and breastfeeding?

Teen moms, do you breastfeed? If yes or no why did you make the decision you did? If you chose to breastfeed and it was too hard or for some reason you stopped, what were the struggle you went through? If you have an opinion on which is better- why do you feel this way?

I will soon be living with a pregnant teen, and would like to offer to help her breastfeed, but not force it on her and would like to know about your experience so that I can better help her during this tough time. Thanks for any and all input- even if it's mean it still helps me understand the situation better.

  • How much should it cost to have a ring sized?

I was quoted 70- 90 $ in Alaska and this seems a little high. Does anyone know of a place that does it cheaper, I will be in the lower 48 soon, so any major jewelry chain will work. Thanks for all answers!

  • No cereal or meat for baby?

I know cereal and meats offer iron to babies. I am definitely not going to give baby cereal, as I plan on BLW, and don't believe cereal is nutritious but I have read meat is a good source or iron instead. I am a vegetarian and even though I don't object to my daughter eating meat I have an issue feeding her something I could not even bring myself to taste. Would iron rich fruits and veggies be enough for my little girl? I plan to ask my doctor of course, but really I am wondering if any moms out there started solids with out meat or cereal? Oh yeah and one more time- I'm not trying to force my vegetarianism on my daughter the thought of feeding her meat just eeks my out a bit. All input is appreciated, thanks.

  • BLW first food ideas?

Did you find it easier to offer whole fruits such as pears and bananas or slices of the fruit? What is the best method for cooking sweet potatoes so they are firm enough to hold and soft enough to bite? What are good started foods, I know broccoli, green beans- things with a handle. Would whole grain bow tie pasta work? Any input, personal experience and advice welcome from those who have tried baby-led weaning.
