  • In Virginia, is it worth going to court for EXPIRED REGISTRATION ticket?

I live in northern VA. I just got stopped by a state trooper on a highway because my vehicle registration expired on 6/30/2013. Today is 7/5/2013.

I totally forgot to renew. The trooper gave me a ticket to either appear in court or pay the fine $25 +$62.

I understand that the trooper is just doing his job. But by stopping me, a normally law abiding citizen, he could have been stopping people that are actually speeding, under the influence or breaking more serious offenses such as texting while driving. Now I have to pay this extra tax of $87. Feeling unfair. So I would like to know if I went to court, is there any possibility of getting this fine reduced? I'm also a fed govt employee. I'm not rich either. Just looking at the list of 20 different vehicle violations a trooper can charge you with, how did our govt get so big, I feel that I have no liberty left, and powerless.

  • Am I liable for my tenant's son's illness?

I have a three level townhome that's rented out to a woman and her son who both sleep in the basement. I recently discovered some mold inside the ceiling in the kitchen. The mold was caused by a water leak from upstairs bathroom (tub drain overflow gasket was bad, and a child was taking a bath and splashed water into the overflow drain. since gasket was bad, some water leaked into the ceiling and not into the drain pipe). The leak has been fixed and as soon as I discovered the mold I sprayed the area with Kilz paint which kills mold. Now the tenant is trying to blame the mold in the kitchen for her son's illness. There is also her brother that smokes and lives in the upstairs of the house. She also keeps the basement area locked which houses the HVAC unit. I therefore have no access to my equipment most of the time.

I've offered to hire a company to totally clean out the air ducts, furnace and spray mold killing sprays in the vents. I also plan to test for mold after this work is done to make sure no more mold in the house.

Can she sue me for having mold in the house if I never had access to the HVAC unit and she never complained about the equipment before?

  • Help! What do tick bites on dogs look like after the tick has been removed?

My dog has several of these on his stomach. I suspect that they're tick bites. They look like worts with a blood filled blister in the middle. The tick is gone but these lesions have been on his for almost two weeks. He has been vaccinated against Lyme disease last week. I also use topical flea and tick medication on him but obviously this last dose didn't work very well. How long does it take for these lesions to heal? Should I take him back to the vet? I've been using neosporin. The bites don't bother him and is not painful when I touch it. Thanks for your help

  • Should I still evict tenant that's moving out but owes back rent?

Tenant owes me back rent from Oct and November. Told me he's moving out by end of Dec. I plan to sue him in small claims court for the back rent. Should I play save and go through the eviction process? I already gave him Pay or Quit Notice. Can one go through eviction and small claims court process at the same time? What would be a better way? Thanks.

  • pool & spa contractors or owners, your opinions please?

we're having stone (rectangle shape,1 side's flat,1 side has bullnose) installed around our circular inground spa to hide the white vinyl material the spa is made out of. Well the installer laid the stone out so that there is a bullnose edge on the outside of the spa and a bullnose edge on the inside of the spa. Yes from far away, this looks good. However, the installer overhung the stone on the inside of the spa (yes where you sit) 2 inches past the interior edge of the vinyl. You might think this is not a problem but if you sit in it, you will feel the stone sticking at your shoulder or neck depending on how tall you are. I am short statured and I objected to having stones sticking at my neck. However, he claims that this is how stones are normally laid out on the inside. From most of the pool and spa idea books I've seen, the stones are laid flush on the inside. I can see the overhanging the stones a bit but not more than half an inch. What do you think?Flush or overhung by how far?

  • Why do dogs/puppies like to eat dog poop?

I have a male 8 month old cocker spaniel-poodle mix. I feed him premium dog food. But whenever we walk in the woods and he finds either dog/horse poop he likes to eat it. I yell at him loudly and spank him. He'll stop for a while but if I dont watch him like a hawk he will sneak it in. What can I do to stop him? Isn't it bad for him? He doesn't seem to get sick from it.

  • How to deter tenants from shooting arrows for target practice at my property?

Tenants rent the upstairs part of a house turned into Duplex. They're target shooting against the side of my house. City of Richmond Ordinance 66-344 stats that it is unlawful to shoot arrows at or upon the property without permission. However the police dept told me that because I leased the property to them, they are allowed to shoot arrows on the property. My lease has a clause that states the Lessee shall not deliberately or negligently destroy, deface, impair or remove ay part of the premises (including fixtures, facilities and appliances). Can I make them stop? I just don't want the siding or windows to be damaged. Thanks!
