  • Any recommendations for Med School application?

To give you a brief run-down of my credentials. I will graduate with my Bachelor's in Marketing with a 3.3 ***. GPA (It is low, I know. I had some personal setbacks in school.) I haven't taken my MCAT yet, as I will spend 2 to 3 additional semesters taking the pre-req science courses for med school. I will have 2 to 3 years of volunteering hours at a hospital here.

I wanted to know if there is anything else that I can do to help beef up my application since I have a lower-than-average cummulative GPA, as well as the best study resources for the MCAT?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  • What is the cutest thing your cat has ever done?

    Just something for fun!

I just got my cat, but he likes to lick our foreheads. It is really cute. He is a blue point Himalayan. 8 years old, and we brought him home from the shelter that I work out. I love him already! :)

  • What is the cutest thing your dog (or any dog) has ever done?

One of the cutest things I love seeing my dogs do, is when I pull up to the house and all the sudden two Great Dane heads are in the picture window. Makes me really glad to be home!

Every morning they also pee right next to each other, in the same stance with their tails aiming the same way. It's cute!

Just wanting a nice brain break on a typical Monday!

  • What do you think your dog is doing right now?

Just something for fun! One of my Great Danes is in her crate, and I am sure that the other is laying on the couch, or watching rabbits and squirrels from the window! :)

  • Any Tips for Bringing a Himalayan Cat Into the Home?

I work for the Humane Society here. I have never really had a cat (just cared for thousands at the Humane Society.. LOL), but fell in love with an 8 year old Himalayan, that has been there for almost 3 months. He is super sweet. We are getting short of space at our shelter, so I fear that if they couldn't find a rescue for him, that something else would happen, so I am adopting him and will be bringing him home this Saturday. I have 2 Great Danes (a 3 year old, and a 4 month old). The older one LOVES cats, and the younger one has met a couple and has just wanted to play.. no kind of aggression. I was going to keep them separate from the cat for a little bit and let Romeo get used to us and his new home. Then I was going to start slow and just introduce the older Dane since I know he will be gentle, then as things are going well, bring the baby dog into the mix. Is that what any of you have done? I am more experienced with introducing dog to dog. Cats are a new ball game for me.

I wanted to know if there were anything else I need for him? I have a grooming appt. scheduled for him (he is matted pretty bad, so I am having him shaved, and then have a furminator for daily brushings). I have already purchased Taste of the Wild (Rocky Mountain Feline Formula) for him, as I feed my Danes Taste of the Wild, and believe in feeding higher quality food. Does anyone else feed their cat that? I wanted to get to know his personality better at home before I spent too much on toys, but are there any recommendations?

    Thanks everyone!

  • Doctors & Med Students, Do You Have Advice?

Just to give you a little background, I was Pre-Med/Biology for two years on-campus with a 3.7 GPA. I had completed a lot of the basic courses needed (Biology, Chem 1 and 2, Organic Chem, Physics 1, Zoology, Botany, etc.). I got into the partying phase, and changed my major to Marketing because it was "easier". I have been in school for that for a year and a half on-line. I now have woken up and realized that I am not where I want to be in my life. I have a goal and dreams and was willing to throw that away out of laziness. I have decided to get back into an on-school campus and finish what I started with my Biology degree. My GPA has since fallen to a 2.7 (anyone reading who is in school.. learn from me.. partying and being lazy gets you no where). I know that I am smart enough, driven enough and capable of doing what I need to do to get the GPA up and prepare well for the MCAT. What other advice do you have for me on getting into Med school and being a marketable candidate for the school? I want to make sure that I do everything I possibly can, since I have the GPA hurdle, and the major changing as well to overcome. Thanks. Any advice is appreciated greatly!

  • Best tips for getting into Conformation and Obedience AKC events?

I have 10 years of experience with loving and owning Great Danes. I currently have 2 rescue Danes that are absolutely wonderful. I have been in the process of seeking a third Great Dane that would be a show prospect. I have been interviewing breeders. I have found a couple that I met through sources through the local Kennel Club and Great Dane club.

I have been invited to attend the next Kennel Club meeting and the next Great Dane Club of Greater St. Louis meeting, with the intent to join. It was also recommended to me that I read "Raising a Champion" as it is full of knowledge.

I want to know if anyone has any tips/advice for a newbie getting into the show ring? I wanted to know if there was anything that I could be doing now to get ready?

My current Great Danes and I are going to be attending conformation and obedience classes together so that I can get a feel for it all.
