What are instructions for restoring Windows on my IBM Lenovo T40 laptop computer?
I bought this about 15~20 months ago as a refurbished unit. It had Windows XP Professional pre-installed and a product key code to validate it but no CD. While performing maintenance on my hard drive (defragging, etc) the Compress option got checked and I can no longer boot the system. I know there is a hidden "recovery" feature to reinstall the Windows OS but I do not have the instructions on how to activate it and have been unable to find an online manual that explains how to access the Install feature.
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoHow to fix "Windows XP BOOTMGR is compressed"?
I have a Lenova/IBM Thinkpad and I cannot find an XP Boot Disk (CD). Can anybody tell me how to start the computer? Could I download boot up software to a USB Drive and boot from that? If so do you know where I can get a copy to download?
Laptops & Notebooks9 years agoIBM Thinkpad has wonky display, can I diagnose fix & problems myself?
It is a Lenovo T60 I bought refurbished off of lease about 10 months ago and it came with a 90 day warranty. Recently the display screen began switching to "sleep" mode after a few minutes of use and sometimes has a pinkish cast when powering on. Once it goes into sleep mode it may wake up when the sleep function key is pressed but then will shut off again in a minute or less.
I can plug in an external monitor and it works fine for hours, so I am thinking I have a problem with the screen hardware or connection cable (or a setting?). I am retired and have very little money so I really want to get this fixed as inexpensively as possible.
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks9 years agoCan anyone recommend a "Kindle" type reader for 10 year old boy?
Not sure what category this should be asked in so I am starting here.
Our son would like a book reader such as the Kindle or one of the type sold by Barnes and Noble, etc. I am looking for feedback on different brands as well as recommendations on features, prices and selection of youth friendly publications.
3 AnswersPDAs & Handhelds1 decade agoSerious photographers, could you please critique this photo set?
I just came back from a two day trip touring arboretums and formal gardens and would like feedback on some of the pictures I took. They are all in this set on Flickr.

I will be adding more photos as i get them sorted and processed.
9 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoCan anyone tell me the difference between Epson Pigment vs. Dye Inks?
I have an Epson Stylus Photo R800 and have found a supplier of bottled ink for a Continuous Ink Supply but they are offering both dye and pigment based inks. I would like to know the difference in quality, permanence and damage resistance of these two types of ink. Also, what type of ink is supplied in the Epson cartridges for the R800 (I always assumed it was pigment but have been unable to find anything to document that).
4 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoIs anyone having trouble w/ Y!A messages being too small to read?
For the past few days every time someone tries to contact me with a message from Answers embedded portion (the user text) of the message text is so small that it appears as a tiny gray line and is only discernible after I cut and paste the entire text and disclaimer section into a WordPad document.
It looks like this (with the lines in the middle scrunched together as if it is using some sort of Micro-Font) ~
"You have received a message from another user!
______________
____ __ __________
Please do not reply to this message to unsubscribe. If do you not want to receive these messages, use this link to unsubscribe....."
Also the scrunched up text has some colored segments that appear to be links in the embedded text.
1 AnswerNotices and Errors1 decade agoDoes any one else have problems with answers being deleted?
I just reviewed two of the questions I answered to see when they would be eligible for voting. When I used the back button in my browser my score was 4 points lower and at least one of my answers was deleted (it says two answers were deleted in details but when I click on "view question" it shows the same question for both of the questions). I have had answers disappear before, usually after Ii edited an answer so I assumed I might have pressed the wrong key and deleted the answer but this time I only viewed the question.
Also. How do you get an Answers Administrator to review this problem?
3 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoDoes anyone have any experience as a Listing Agent for eBay products?
This is advertised as an "earn at home" source of income. I am interested in responses from people who have done this to hear pros and cons of the offers. Is it a scam of some sort or legitimate means to earn $$$?
1 AnswerOther - Advertising & Marketing1 decade agoCould I get some feedback on a few close up/macro photos I did of flowers?
Here is a link to a set of flowers I photographed this morning and I am wondering if any are good enough for publication in specialty magazines. About 5~10 images dozen images (being added to sets as I write this).

4 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoWhy can't I use most CFL light bulbs in sockets with dimmer switches?
We have many light fixtures in our home and business that have dimmer switches on them. We are trying to save energy by installing CFL lamps but most of the bulbs say not for use with dimmer sockets.
Is this because there is some hazard with using them that way or does it mean that they won't work or that the dimming feature will not function?
Thanks for any knowledgeable advice.

7 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoNeed advice on removing lens shade stuck on large format camera lens.?
I have a Mamiya RB67 90mm lens with a screw on lens hood that has been screwed on so tight that the whole front lens assembly starts to unscrew when I try to remove it. Any suggestions on how to loosen it?
I bought the lens used and the hood was attached when I got it.

4 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoI have McAfee Security Center and receive a message every 45 seconds that says -?
"The version of Security Center that is installed on your computer is designed for a different operating system". This only happens with one User ID (my primary ID). I just migrated from an older computer with Windows 2000 to a new Dell Vostro with Windows XP Pro. The User ID I am trying to use is one that I migrated and the primary USer with all my old settings.
I already tried the McAfee support (which has proven to be useless) and tried editing the registry per their instructions but it has not worked!!!
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoCan anyone tell me the origin/source of this quote?
I have seen it attributed to Benjamin Franklin in Poor Richard's Almanac. Also, is it the correct original saying -
For want of a nail a shoe was lost,
for want of a shoe a horse was lost,
for want of a horse a rider was lost,
for want of a rider an army was lost,
for want of an army a battle was lost,
for want of a battle the war was lost,
for want of the war the kingdom was lost,
and all for the want of a little horseshoe nail.
Thanks...
