  • Transfer music from computer to Android phone via wifi?

My phone got wet, and it works fine EXCEPT that my computer will no longer recognize the device, so I can't transfer files when it's connected.

Can I use Google Play or another program to send song files to my phone if I didn't purchase them from Google Play? I have a lot of music from physical CDs that I'd like to have on my phone.

  • Student loan wording: interest rates and repayment?

I took out a private student loan with Discover this semester, and I chose a plan that has me pay $25/mo before my the loans are actually due. According to my final disclosure document, "($0.00 in interest will accrue during this time)".

However, my loan has been accruing interest. I sent an email through their messaging system, and they responded that, "Your loan will begin accruing simple interest once the disbursement is made to the school, on the amount disbursed to the school. With your monthly payment of $25.00 will help reduce your monthly interest that accrues."

That doesn't sound right to me. The final disclosure says interest will not accrue, but actually, it is accruing, and I'm just paying it off at a rate that will offset the interest.

If that's the case, then what's the point of agreeing to owe $25 a month? I could make the payments early on my own without being charged extra or having it affect my credit if I can't make it one month! Not to mention how misleading the wording in the final disclosure is.

Is this just the policy of the company? I misunderstood the final disclosure? Or is there a mistake and I'm right to be upset?

  • Device charges strangely when not using the charger it came with?

I have a pocket wifi device, and it behaves strangely when charging with a different charger than the one it came with.

When you plug it in, it will charge for ~13 episodes, not charge for about ~13 seconds, charge for ~13 seconds, not charge for about ~13 seconds.... and so on.

This even happens when I use the extra battery-charger-thing that came with the device. It means that I have to turn it off to charge when I want to use the extra battery, otherwise the battery will die while it's connected. Why does it do that?

  • Japanese translation about modifying food orders?

I am trying to say, "However, modifying orders (i.e. at a restaurant) can be difficult. For example, if a customer doesn't want eggs, it might be impossible."

    My attempt: しかし、注文を変えるのは時々難しい。例えば、お客さんが玉ねぎが嫌らかなかったら、玉ねぎなしな料理が時々無理。

I'm really unsure about how to phrase the last bit. Maybe 玉ねぎをもらう(anyway? regardless?). Or something about they might not remove the onions?

  • US to Japan dress size?

I'm doing an event in Japan, which I think is giving out t-shirts. They ask for my dress size with the options: SS, S, M, L, LL, 2L, 3L, 4L, and 5L.

I'm a size 10-12 in the US, which I would say is unisex L or women's XL. But I know that Japan has a very different idea of what "large" is! So I'm not sure which would be appropriate for me.

  • Forgot Discover card payment?

I accidentally forgot to make my Discover Card payment. I made it two days late. It was only for <$12, and it's the first time I've been late since I got the card in two-and-a-half years. There's currently no late fee or anything on the card. Should I expect one to be coming soon? If it does, is there a chance I can convince them to take it off? If it doesn't, are they going to report it to the Credit Bureau?

  • Will replacing the screen of my laptop fix the problem?

I ****** up. Closed my laptop while one of my earbuds was on the keyboard and it majorly screwed up the screen. There's a crack in the bottom left-hand corner, which I could have lived with, but there's also vertical lines running all along the entire left-hand third of and bottom third.

But the weirder thing is that the lines aren't stationary. Especially on the bottom third, there's lots of flickering, and it doubles what's being shown on the top of the screen.

    Here's a video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-RDPNE5RECsbVRnc...

Will replacing the screen fix everything? It looks pretty easy to do myself, but I don't want to waste my money if there's something else wrong too.

  • Does Delta Airlines accept Discover Card?

I'm trying to book a trip from Senegal to the US, and I'd like to put it on my Discover card, but it's not going through.

According to Delta's website: "We accept American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover® Network, Carte Blanche, JCB, Delta Equity Card, Diners Club, UATP, PayPal and Bill Me Later."

However, on the payment page for my ticket, the only options for credit card type are: American Express, MasterCard, Visa, JCB, Diners Club , and the UATP/Delta Equity Card. There's no Discover option. But I tried entering it as a Diners Club card because according to Discover's website, their cards are accepted wherever Diners Club cards are accepted. Same with JCB.

But I get a message telling me that my card number is incorrect! I've checked and rechecked and retyped several times the card number, the expiration date, and the security code on the back, but I get the same message.

    What gives?

  • Pronunciation of Ancient Greek theta?

It seems from some Googling that it's pronounced like the English TH sound as is in "thin", right? But I'm taking an Ancient Greek class while studying abroad at a French university, and everyone, even the teacher, pronounces it the way the French pronounce TH (that is to say, basically like a T sound). How should I pronounce it?

  • Translating birth certificate into French?

I am translating my birth certificate into French to be certified/notarized in preparation for a term abroad. Do these translations look right?

État de la Floride (state of Florida)

Bureau de statistiques (office of vital statistics)

Extrait d’acte de naissance (certification of birth)

Numéro de dossier de l’état : (state file number)

    Date classée : (date filed)

    Nom d'enfant : (child's name)

Date de naissance : (date of birth)

    Sexe : Féminin

Comté de naissance : (county of birth)

Nom de jeune fille de mère : (mother's maiden name)

Nom de père : (father's name)

    Date d’émission : (date issued)

Please tell me if there are any mistakes. I'm a little unsure, for instance, about whether or not my use/omission of the article le is correct.

  • Similarity of Haitian Creole and Antillean Creole?

I'm going to be abroad in Martinique next semester, where Antillean Creole is spoken. My library has a CD set for learning Haitian Creole. Wikipedia says the two languages are mutually intelligible. Would it be at all beneficial for me to study Haitian Creole, or should I not bother?

  • How to type Mandarin in traditional Chinese characters on Windows?

I know how to add keyboards and everything, but I can't figure out the traditional Chinese. I'm using Windows 8. I go to the Control Panel, Add a Language, Chinese (Traditional), and I'm presented with three options; Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

When I try using the Hong Kong and Macao options to type 我是, I get: 囚刀

When I try using the Taiwan one, I get a really weird script that ends up disappearing when I switch back to English.

How can I type actual Traditional Chinese characters?

  • What if mechanic find drugs in car?

My sister does drugs, and we had to drop her car off at the mechanic. We tried to look and find any that might be left in car, but didn't see anything. If we missed something, and the mechanic finds it, would he be under an obligation to report it to the police?

  • One-year terminal contract?

I got an email from my school asking me to review a teacher who is applying for tenure. It included the line, "To deny tenure means that the faculty member will receive a one-year terminal contract." Does that mean the teacher can only continue to work for one more year, and then she'll be fired? Or does it just mean that the contract only lasts one year, at which point it'll be up for renewal?

If it means that the she'll be fired, why? It seems ridiculous to me that just because she's ineligible for tenure, she'd have to leave the school!
