  • Bad sore on top of withers?

Last week it was REALLY cold here, as low as -45 Celcius (-49 Farenheit) so we went to extreme measures to keep our horses warm. Our old boy has an excellent winter coat and dealt with the low temperatures quite well but my husbands best rope horse is a major pussy about the cold so he was as bundled as we could get him.

Long story short, we used a blanket we had in the back of our tack room that didn't fit him real well as a bottom layer and it gave him a pretty bad sore on the top of his withers. It is quite sore, and a little bit pussy. I have tried cleaning it a little as it cant drain where its located, but he is not very happy with me touching it. I am applying an ointment twice daily and using feminine pads (& duct tape) to keep it covered, but Im wondering if I should take his blanket off (it's warmed up to 0 Celcius) and let it get some air and scab up.

    Looking for suggestions and opinions.

I am fully aware that we should have been checking his blanket, but I wasn't crazy about the idea of undressing him and freezing his @$$ off to make sure everything was ok(and we've NEVER had an issue like this before, so i kinda bundled him up and forgot about it until it warmed up).

    Thanks in advance!

  • Pinion/Yoke movement in 2001 Dodge 3500 dually?

My husband and I have spent our evenings for the last week replacing the rear pinion seal on our 2001 Dodge 3500 dually. While we were at it, we replaced the rear axle yoke, the seal that goes on the yoke, the U-joint, the pinion nut, and the clamps that hold the U-joint, yoke, and drive shaft together.

Tonight we finally finished (we both work long hours and have been doing this after work) and there seems to be a little bit (less than a quarter inch) of movement in every direction. We put on about 250 lbs of torque on the pinion nut as directed by the dodge manual so now we're concerned that the rear dif might be screwed.

Should there be a little bit of movement like that? And is it normal that it still make a bit of a howling sound when driven?

There is avery good possibility that the idiot parts man at our local Dodge dealership gave me the wrong yoke... I have been back and double checked but Im really not sure he's smart enough to pick up on his own mistake. (Im really not trying to be a b**** but 6 trips to town for parts seems a little excessive when he has a computer that TELLS him which parts we need... this could have been DONE a week ago- done ranting now).

Should the little rubber seal on the yoke sit fairly flush with the pinion seal? Ours doesn't really which is really leaving reason for concern but we're both pretty tired so we might be over thinking things too...

  • Has and one used "Back on Track" products?

What product(s) did you use? (leg wraps, blanket, etc)

What were you trying to heal? (Stiff muscles, injury, arthritis)

    Did it work?

You get the idea... Im interested in the product and wondering what others think of it. Tell me your "success" or "failure" stories.

  • Quit smoking 3 weeks ago and need to get back in shape before I get too far out of shape!! Help! 10 points.?

Im 5'5 and about 130 lbs but I've always been in pretty good shape and have never had any problem maintaining. Since I quit smoking 3 weeks ago Im noticing some (unwelcomed) changes in my body- probably has something to do with the obscene amout of candy I've eaten in the past few weeks but Im ready to stop that, get back to my (somewhat) healthy eating, and get back in shape. I haven't actually gained any pounds, but Im obviously losing tone as my pants are getting tighter...

I rodeo so I ride my horse about an hour a day and thats all I've ever really had to do. Is there a basic program I can do to get back in shape and maintain a healthy body? I dont have any weights so anything I can do without them would be much appreciated.

    Thanks so much!

  • In-laws refuse to stop smoking in my house?

So, my husband and I got married in July and want to renovate our house. We have been here two years, but it was his grandparent's farm before, so we just want to redo the whole thing... make it a little less pink (my entire dining room/living room is a disgusting shade of pink). We decided we wouldn't renovate until I quit smoking, as then our house would smell all fresh, clean, and new again, and it'll be like a fresh start.

His parents came down for a week in the middle of last month and are both VERY heavy smokers (like 1.5 packs a day/person) so I told them about the plan to quit smoking in the house once we renovate and they refused. The both just looked at me very matter-of-fact, and said "we've always been allowed to smoke in here, we were here long before you and we're not about to stop smoking in here just because you're painting."

I am now on day 4 without a smoke (not easy, but it'll be well worth it). I am absolutely a little on the b*tchy side, but am trying to figure out how to tell them that "our house is now a non-smoking home" without causing a huge family fued. I talked to my husband about it and he thinks its best if we dont say anything but when we have kids there will damn sure be no smoking around them so eventually it's going to have to stop.

(For the record, its not that my husband wont stand up to his parents, he just hates conflict and knows that they are going to make a HUGE deal out of this... I wouldn't be suprised if they told everyone we told them they weren't welcome here- thats what they did to his brother and his girlfriend and she is allergic to smoke!)

  • Mother in law lectured me about NOT having kids?

My husband and I got married in July and everything is going awesome. His parents came down last week and while he was away at work, his mom sat me down and told me that we shouldn't have kids for at least 2 or 3 years. I told her that we weren't really planning on it for a year or two but dont want to wait to long as Im now 24 and he is 31... we'd like to have kids while we're still somewhat young! We both have full time jobs, make decent money, own our own farm, have horses.... I see no reason why she would say this. His parents really like me and have always visited at least once a month and make themselves right at home at our place so I really can't see the problem with us having kids!

Any ideas? Does anyone else think this is a little inappropriate?

  • Splints in older horses?

We have a 15 year old quarter horse gelding, in awesome shape, and very well taken care of who has developed a hard lump on the inside of his front, right cannon bone about 3 inches below his knee. There is no heat at all in it, and it doesn't seem to be sore to touch although he is lame... not super lame, but on a scale of one to ten, he's probably a four. We are wondering if this is a splint and if splints can occur in older horses?

  • Our 14 year old calf horse has a lump on the inside/middle of his cannon bone.?

Crackers is in awesome shape, never does anything without boots on, and has regular appointments with his sportstherapy girl. This hard lump (about the size of a nickle) developed more or less overnight and isn't sore to touch or even a little bit warm, although he does seem a tiny bit off at a jog... I cold hosed it this evening and am wondering if I should wrap it, and/or butte him. It looks like he may have bumped himself or something but Im wondering if splints develop overnight, if they occur in older horses, if they are generally hot/ swollen, or if anyone has any other suggestions?

I know our horses very well and Im pretty handy with vet work. Im simply looking for suggestions so dont tell me to call my vet immediatley, he'll go Monday if the problem persists(vet's mom passed away on Tuesday- unless his leg is falling off Im not calling).

    Thanks!

  • Finace lied about watching porn...?

My man and I have been living together for 2 years now, we recently got engaged and will be married in July. I have no problem at all with porn (and he knows that) but he's always said he's not into porn or strippers. I recently found a a couple porn mags in our office, and freaked a little and went into his email (terrible, I know) and he's recently signed up for a free porn site on his blackberry... am I not enough anymore? Is is common for a man to change his mind (about porn) after being with someone for a couple years? Or am I over reacting...?

  • Itchy, red, spotted rash on left hip?

Hi, I am a 23 yr old healthy woman- fairly stress free. About a week ago I developed a very itchy, red, spotted rash on my left hip. I have been applying cortisone and it relieves it for a while and it starts to itch again but doesn't go away! I have had random rashes like this before, usually in the same general area and they eventually seem to go away- usually after 6 months to a year. I have not changed detergent or anything and am not generally allergic to anything. Could there be some underlying cause? What can I do to get rid of it?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
