  • New apartment has pink tiled bathroom for the boy & guests, what to do?

New apartment was built in the 1940's and possibly renovated in the 1950's since the main bathroom is all pink. This one is for my son but also used by guests. What can I do to make it useable for a preteen boy and appropriate enough when guests come over? Can't change anything existing just add to it.

  • Trade in or run till it dies?

I have a Honda CRV EX with approx. 130K miles on it purchased from a dealer in 2008 and I am coming up on the end of my payments. The car has cost about $2000 per year of ownership in repairs and maintenance costs with many more to come (radiator leaks, oil leak, exhaust needs replacement and front end problems will be the 3rd time I have replaced something on that front end!)

Should I put out the money and fix my car up to run a while longer so I have no car payment. Or should I trade it in for something more reliable but an auto payment?

  • Purple spots on my neck now turned light brown what are they?

I have these light brown spots that are almost circled but overlapping on the right side of my neck and extending a bit on the shoulder. First noticed it about a month ago when they sprung up almost overnight as a light purple spots. I would remember an injury to my neck it's not just bruising, they are not itchy, painful or dry skin. They do not fade with cream, lotion, aloe or antihistamine, I get hives often so I thought it was that but hives usually swell and itch. No swelling and not going away. I am very pale so people notice them and ask what happened.

I have an endocrine problem and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, both possibly due to Hashimoto's hypothyroidism but awaiting test results on mom & sis before I get tested as well. I asked my doctors but they had no answers because they were more concerned with the gallbladder obstruction that backed up my liver and stomach. The spots appeared just before I had surgery to remove my gallbladder about a month ago.

  • Recently had surgery now my period is horrible what to do to help?

I had my gallbladder removed by laparascopy about three weeks ago and today is day one of my normal cycle which stinks because I was just starting to feel less pain from the surgery. I am experiencing firework like pain throughout my abdomen but mainly by the belly button which was the largest and of course most painful incision, is it possible the swelling and bloating from my period is putting pressure there? How can I make myself less uncomfortable without going back to the doctor or hitting the Vicodin I just stopped taking last week.

Tomorrow I have to drive back to work which is 5 hours one way, I am back to work after medical leave Monday so this was very inopportune.

  • Why does everyone love Angelina Jolie's look at the Golden Globes?

All the fashion blogs are hailing her dress as daring? Daring? It looks like a bed sheet with a twist in the middle her boobs look pointy and it fits her wrong what's with the fold over the red triangle is she wearing it inside out? The white is so bright it washed her out and she is clearly not tan enough to pull of a luminescent material with red lipstick. Oh and the slicked back hair do is boring.

Could I have done better? Probably not. The real winner is Diane Lane she can pull off a beige gown!

  • Are Calico Critters new or retro?

I vaguely remember having these when I was little so this would be mid-late 80's. I had the brown bear family that had a mom, dad, brother and sister they came with clothes and you could purchase home items and additional critters.

  • Are some people more driven than others?

Why are some people driven or obsessed with being the best they can be and achieve relative success in life. While others are more mediocre and for whatever reason lack the same drive in life and passion for success.

  • Three schools in five years maybe one more?

My son is 9, he has Asperger's Syndrome which I found out after kindergarten at school A where incidentally he was picked on a lot. We moved to a house I bought and transferred to school B, the administration was awful and the teachers unwilling to help him much in the classroom and he was picked on at school B as well. I had enough after 3rd grade we just transferred this school year to a private school designed for Autistic kids (school C) and he is flourishing in the 4th grade. Three months into the year I have been offered a job that would almost double our income and I would be able to provide for him better than a single mom making poverty wages. The problem is it would mean moving 4 hours away and starting at school D. I am not sure if I can ask him to move to yet another school after he is so happy where he is at. Plus he is very close to my parents and this would mean moving 4 hours away from them as well. What do I do???

  • Who else is looking forward to Black Friday?

It's like Christmas and the Super Bowl wrapped into one...ah I love Black Friday. I have told people I would go out even if I have nothing to buy there is nothing else in the world like watching people lose their marbles at 3am in the grand arena of hyper-consumerism.

  • Neck pain, what is going on in my family (mystery hereditary problem)?

My grandmother had four discs in her neck degenerate which her doctor attributed to smoking, she had multiple surgeries to help but she ended up losing her mobility. She stayed in bed alot after that and died of a blood clot that lead to a stroke in her mid seventies.

My sister is in her early twenties, she has never smoked really a very healthy lifestyle. Last year she started showing symptoms of the same type of illness but her team of doctors do not seem to know what is wrong or how to treat it. In my grandmother it was all "well she smoked" but my sister is or was the picture of health. She is declining fast whatever is wrong with her spine isn't responsive to treatment or testing and is not getting any better. I am afraid my sister is going to die from what we do not even know. She has undergone a battery of tests from spinal tap to MRI and no answers.

Closer to home, I have been complaining of neck pain for years since my twenties but my doctors ignored it saying I have been sleeping wrong. Now I have been diagnosed with arthritis in my neck and left shoulder at age 30 and it seems to be getting worse in the last year or two.

What is going on and is this a hereditary disease we are unaware of? Please help!

  • How long is the average interview?

I am traveling quite a distance for an interview tomorrow they told me to block about four hours for the interview itself. Does that seem like a long time? Is this to get everything done in one shot rather than having me drive back and forth for further questions.

  • Mystery illness any ideas on further testing or causes?

Going to save you the lengthy story and list symptoms:

    - Frequent urination 8-10 times a day

    - Frequent bowel movements almost as often as I urinate, loose difficult to pass anyhow

    - Both feet swollen, pain not improved with elevation or compress difficulty standing for length of time or going from sitting too long to walking the bottom hurts like pins and needles.

    - Heavy and painful period not improved with Monoessa pill to regulate

    - Fatigue

    - Dry mouth & often feels like I am dehydrated, but I drink a lot of fluids

    - Wounds do not seem to heal as quickly as in the past

I am 30 years old, 5ft0, 244lbs. I know I need to get my weight down but other people don't seem to have such severe problems if it were just that. Also I have had these symptoms or some version there of for almost 10 years at all different weights. Blood pressure normal, blood sugar normal (had 2hr glucose results were perfect), cholesterol normal, normal colonoscopy, normal ultrasound. The only thing that stood out was my thyroid was low and triglycerides slightly elevated. Doc diagnosed me with hypothyroid and starting medication about a month into and no better in fact I am even more fatigues, diet and exercise to get the triglycerides down.

I've had two doctors working on it since the beginning of summer it's affecting my life both symptoms and diagnostics, just want to know what's wrong so we can treat and move on with life. PLEASE HELP!

  • My maiden name is a first name would it be okay to use?

My maiden name is Simon would it be weird to use that as the first name for baby #2? I have a son from a previous relationship who is using Simon as his last name. My kids names would be similar but reversed.

  • Coach said it maybe Server's disease anyone heard of this?

My son went down in pain during soccer practice complaining his heel hurt, the coach took his cleats off and felt around then explained Server's disease and that I should have his pediatrician look at it. We have an appointment in two weeks but what can be done to ease the pain in the meantime he won't put weight on it or even try. At home we elevated but he refused ice pack since it was cold.

  • Sticking keyboard keys to paper covered wood what to use?

During a move my bf has to throw away his childhood dresser and so I saved the small drawers from it and plan on making him some shadow boxes for his new place. I plan on lining the drawers with scrapbook paper and using keyboard keys to spell out phrases like "There's no place like 127.0.0.1" (he is a code-monkey).

Anyhow how to best attach the keys to the paper covered wood elmer's glue, hot glue, epoxy? I am not sure if I will get a piece of glass for the front or leave it open yet to be decided.

  • Bumper crop of zucchini, bell peppers and tomatoes? Any recipes for preserving these?

I am really into canning lately and between my mom's garden and mine we have a bumper crop of zucchini, bell pepper and tomatoes. Looked around online and didn't find anything that fit the bill, I'd like a recipe that can be used to preserve these goodies for the winter months.

Plus I have a big bunch of dried cilantro hanging in the garage that I would like to do something with.

  • Hypothyroid or something else, second opinion time?

Going to save you the lengthy story and list symptoms:

    - Frequent urination 8-10 times a day

    - Frequent bowel movements almost as often as I urinate, loose difficult to pass anyhow

    - Both feet swollen, pain not improved with elevation or compress difficulty standing for length of time or going from sitting too long to walking the bottom hurts like pins and needles.

    - Fatigue

    - Dry mouth & often feels like I am dehydrated

    - Wounds do not seem to heal as quickly as in the past

I am 30 years old, 5ft0, 244lbs. (I know we talked about the weight today), blood pressure normal, blood sugar normal, cholesterol normal, normal colonoscopy, normal ultrasound. The only thing that stood out was my thyroid was low and triglycerides slightly elevated. Doc diagnosed me with hypothyroid and starting medication tomorrow diet and exercise to get the triglycerides down.

Is this a correct diagnosis even though it doesn't really explain why I went to him in the first place the annoyingly frequent bathroom problem. Should I seek a second opinion? Is there something we are overlooking?

  • Cooking range has some scratches from heavy canning kettle how do I remove?

I used my glass top range to heat my mom's giant aluminum canning kettle (boil water bath) but unfortunately once full it was too heavy to pick up and maneuver under the close range hood so I dragged it off the range a bit and then lifted. Doing so I left a few small scratches on the glass by the heating elements.

    1. Is it still safe to use the heating elements with a few minor scratches?

    2. How do I remove the scratches?

    3. What can I use to heat the boiling water bath canning kettle that is not my range so this doesn't happen again?
