  • Fuel grade for 10.5:1 SBC tpi?

I recently purchased a trans am with a crate l98 running 10.5 compression ratio. I've been using regular 87 gas and no serious problems, but would I do better to use a higher grade for this CR?

  • How the new volve triple drive concept works?

According to Volvo's sparse description (or at least this is what I understood), an electrically driven compressor pressurizes ambient air and feeds it high-velocity, like exhaust gas, through the turbines of two regular turbochargers, which in turn compress ambient air to shove into the engine. Now I'm not far into my engineering degree, but I feel like if they can muster enough electrical power to substitute air for a car's exhaust pressure, wouldn't that power be used more efficiently just directly driving the main turbos that feed the intake? How do they gain an advantage?

  • Signal flasher 88 trans am?

All the signals on my firebird are solid when I hit the lever. The hazards have no such issue. I'm gathering that the signal flasher needs replaced, but for the life of me I haven't a clue where it is. The PO did replace the center console with a 4th gen's, so it may be that it's not even where it was originally supposed to be. Any ideas?

  • Why did the Falklands war last as long as it did?

After the recent arguing over Bill O'Reilly's coverage of the war, I decided I knew too little about it and started some research. It seems that the US considered British victory neigh impossible, and it took ten weeks to succeed. This is the same Britain that once ruled half the globe, right? How could a country like Argentina ever pull together enough military might to stand against that? Why did the British send so few troops? Was it all politics?

  • Sliding ladder without calc?

I'm taking a dynamics class, non calc based. I am trying to understand how we do relative motion for the "sliding ladder" problem for a given instant. I know the motion of one end is perpendicular to the ladder itself, and the velocity of the other end at that point is given, but how do I find the magnitude of the velocity at the unknown end along that perpendicular direction? Angle is given.

  • Brand new water pump leaking?

I just attempted to replace the water pump on my SBC 350 engine. I laid sealant on both sides of the gaskets, then torqued the 4 bolts to the block pretty well. After I reconnected the radiator hose, water started dripping from both sides of the pump wheee it meets the block. What did I do wrong? Can I try again with the same brand new pump?

  • Question about turbo lag?

I understand that while a turbo is spooling up in the low end, it isn't giving the engine boost. I have heard this referred to as "choking" the engine. But does that mean that the engine is getting any LESS air during the lag period than if it were naturally aspirated during that time? If so, why not have a valve that lets the engine breathe naturally until the turbo is ready to provide boost? If not, wouldn't an engine built to have superior low-end torque at least partially compensate for the lag of a larger turbo? I'm just wondering because the twincharger and sequential turbo systems seem so delicate and expensive in comparison.

  • Would you listen to a symphony by Hitler?

Imagine for a moment that you are the rare breed of modern human who truly enjoys necromantic orchestral music. Imagine that the one and only Adolf Hitler, in addition to his war crimes, had composed a beautiful masterpiece of a symphony. Would you be able to enjoy the art for its own sake? Or would the experience be fundamentally tainted by the life of the artist?

  • How to connect xbox 360 to CRT TV?

I have an Xbox 360 and the generic connection cord from Wal Mart (it has plugs for the 360, Wii, and PS3). I moved from my home with an LCD TV and now have only a CRT TV. It is a Sony Wega I believe. The TV has 4 video in channels, and 1,3, and 4 give me nothing. 2 gives me sound but no video. Do I need a different cord, or an adapter of some kind, to make the TV display audio and video from the Xbox?

  • Keep tool box from sliding in truck bed?

I want a tool box for my truck, but I absolutely cannot afford a metal rail-mount one. Tractor Supply has nice composite lockable tool boxes that are plenty big but I'm not sure how I would keep it from sliding back every time I hit the gas. For that matter, how do any flush mount/non rail-mounted boxes stay in place?

  • Is it time to get off SNRI?

I've been clinically depressed for over five years, and I've been on various antidepressants for four. Currently I take 100 mg of Pristiq, an SNRI, every day. Despite this, my mood was never great and often terrible. However, within the last month or so, I've finally felt myself coming out of the darkness. I feel better than I have since I turned 16. I've stopped having suicidal fantasies, stopped desiring booze and narcotics to simulate happiness, and am excited for the future. The transformation was quick and unexpected, but I've taken my chance and latched on. I will not lose my momentum and fall back into misery. That being said, I would like to end my medication for side-effect and long-term health reasons, and switch to 5htp instead. I have a psychiatry appointment in two months, at which point I will ask him this same question. But just for reference, what would any of you do in my situation?

  • First step to beefing up my 302w?

I've had my 88 F150 for about a year now, and I love it the way only a kid's first car can be loved. I've done quite a few minor repairs/maintenance myself, but now I'd like to start improving the motor. It's a fuel injected (gah!) 5.0 Windsor. I gather that while it isn't known for its stock power, it is a popular engine to mod. My question is, where to start? I understand that often, one upgrade is practically useless (or even detrimental) without other simultaneous upgrades and tunes. The problem with that is budget. Is there a good simple first step I can take that stands alone well without breaking the bank? Or should I save my money until I can do a major mod all at once (eg, replace the top end).

  • Deferred drug charge- can't find housing?

I was planning on attending community college this fall but in order to do so I need an apartment (it's away from home). If I work 30 hours a week (a lot for a full time student) at min wage, I can only afford about $250-300 a month rent, not including utilities. I found a place that I could afford but was denied automatically because I have a deferred misdemeanor drug charge on my record. The other communities in my price range are similar, catering to students, and will likely deny me as well. My program of study does not have part-time as an option. Am I just screwed?

  • Abortion guilt- any reasons I should not die?

Over a year ago, I paid the full price for my (now-ex) girlfriend to have a 1-2dn trimester abortion. I think about it every day. I am, and always was, 100% anti-abortion. I acted out of pure cowardly fear. I had a baby sister born and die early, and the fact that I contributed to something in the same vein eats me up on a daily basis. The guilt is unbearable. I am basically an atheist, but I believe if there ever was a Hell, I am one of the people who deserve to go there. I feel the same as though I personally murdered a living baby. I cut the word "murderer" into my own skin and I believe I was right to do so. In recent days, and hours, the guilt and pain has grown exponentially. Is there any reason I should not end my own disgusting life? I love my family and very few friends and still believe this is the right course of action- I just want to see the opinions of people who don't know me.

  • Lever won't shift into 4wd?

    1988 F150 5l V8

My truck used to shift into 4wd just fine, but one day the stick just wouldn't go back. The hubs are locked and everything, but the shift lever itself just won't lock back. There is resistance when I try to move it. Do I need a whole new transfer case? Or is there something simpler going on?

  • What to do while waiting for her to be ready?

I like this girl, we are recently friends again after a period of no contact due to a number of things. In the meantime, she became engaged to and then dumped by a guy for stupid reasons, really hurting her. Her friend recently explained to me all this, not the girl herself. Friend told me she is not looking for a relationship but to be there for her when she starts doing so. How to proceed in that meantime?

  • What is the definition of drug user in relation to federal gun laws?

I have a misdemeanor drug possession charge pending trial. I intend to plead no contest/first offender bargain (my record will read "charges suspended"). Will I ever be able to own a handgun or a concealed carry license? I read that "drug addicts" are banned from owning such things. But will this one-time arrest really label me a drug addict? For the rest of my life, even if I never touch the stuff again?
