  • Do condo associations usually take responsibility for subfloor damage?

    We have damage to the plywood underneath hardwood and they will not accept responsibility even though I believe the By-Laws mention it, just not directly.

  • Are Subfloors considered an important structural component?

    Are subfloors of a condo considered to be an important structural component? We found subfloor damage from a past major water leak(past owner) and despite it seeming pretty clear in the By-Laws, they say that subfloors are not an important structural component and that it is not their responsibility.

  • How do you go about suing an inspector that missed water damage?

    We tried to get him to file a claim with his insurance but he says his insurance will skyrocket and he is only willing to give $1000 toward the repair cost. The repair is estimate to be upwards of $10,000.

    Just wanted to know what the best approach to this is. All I know is that an attorney would be required. Thank you.

  • Contractor will not provide a free written estimate?

    The guy I spoke to said he could only provide a verbal estimate and that a 250 deposit was needed for a written estimate. This amount would go toward the total cost of the project once paper is signed. Is this the norm? I had a couple other companies come over and offer a free written estimate without any deposit required.

  • Same song for Mother/Son and Father/Daughter Dance?

    Actually the Father/Daughter dance is really an older brother/ sister dance. We both like the same song which is I Hope You Dance. I don't think we would want a combined dance, so is it strange to have the same song played twice? To get around that I was thinking of having the Ronan Keating(male version) played for Brother/Sister dance and the original(Female) played for mother/son. I have some other ideas to fall back on I was just curious to know what some of you thought of this.

    Thanks.

  • How to Slow Dance?

    Me and my fiancee would like to learn a little bit more on how to slow dance for our first dance. We are not interested in learning Fox Trot or any of the other traditional styles. In other words we are not trying to put on a Dancing with the Stars routine. We just want to be able to sway back and forth casually without looking too stupid. I hope someone knows what I am talking about.

    Is there a good resource online, video, instructions... that just gives some pointers on how to do a simple slow dance? Neither of us has really slow danced much, if at all. If there is nothing useful we will have to look for a place that will give us a lesson or two, but most of these places seem like they want to train you to have a full routine. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

In other words we are not trying to put on a Dancing with the Stars routine. We just want to be able to sway back and forth casually without looking stupid. However, we did a practice dance and we not only felt like we were doing something wrong, and I start to get dizzy cause I feel like I am going around in circles. • Brake pedal feel like it is getting stuck.?

    I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. Sometimes when stepping on the brake it feels like it is getting stuck or rubbing as I push it down. Also, when this happens I sort of feel a pulse in the pedal that reminds me of how an ABS system turns on when you slam on breaks in the snow. I don't hear any sounds though, and the pulses are not very hard. I don't seem to have any problem with braking distance. It is just this strange stuck thing going on that makes me worried that one of these days I will not be able to fully push the brake down all the way. Anyone have a clue what might be going on so that when I bring it into the shop I don't sound clueless?

    Also, this car is a hand me down from my grandfather who really did not put many miles on the car. The brakes were also checked before I received them and they seemed to check out just fine. So whatever it is, it was not noticeable under a normal brake inspection or the mechanic missed it.

  • I need to replace ceiling light fixtures in our home?

    I need to replace my ceiling light fixtures in our new house. I want to go all LED, but I am unsure of what to buy. Is it better to get fixtures where there are already LED lights built into or hardwired to the fixture, OR is it better to get a regular incandescent light fixture and buy whatever LED bulbs I want for it. I kind of like the idea of buying a regular light fixture and adding bulbs because I like knowing I can just change the bulbs if the LED light goes out. There also seems to be more design choices as well. I know they last a very long time under normal use, but to me it just seems easier to be able to replace the bulbs if need be. What does everyone think?

  • Using an LED bulb in an incandescent light fixture?

    If you have an incandescent light fixture that supports a 60 watt bulb, what wattage LED bulb can you use in it? Would you still stay under 60 or is it different for LEDs?

  • How do I remove the smell of liquid wrench from my car?

    I purchased a bottle of silicone spray from a local auto store to use on my power window tracks. I had problems before with the power window mechanism breaking on my other car so I figured I would do a little preventive maintenance. I didn't realize that I should have used the dry type for this but it is too late now. The spray left a strong WD-40/gasoline type smell in my car. It seems to have gone away a little but the smell is still lingering a bit. Will the smell dissipate on its own? If not is there something I can do to neutralize the smell? I really don't want to have the smell, but I I also don't want to take apart my door to clean the residue out either. I can do my best of cleaning the rubber in the car that the spray has come in contact with, but I am not sure what you would use to wipe the silicone away.

    If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thank you.

  • What kitchen counter color/pattern works with white cabinets and tan walls?

    Remodeling kitchen. Will be using Tan paint (Sherwin Williams Totally Tan) with white cabinets. Most likely going with laminate and I can go with a solid color or a pattern. I have seen a picture of a white and gray which seems to work. Also, in some cases a black color works. Not sure if it is better to go darker or lighter than the tan color if going that route. What are some color suggestions? Thank you.

  • Is radiant ceiling heat a dangerous type of heating?

    Just bought a condo and we thought it had electric baseboards but it actually has the electric in the ceiling. I never heard of this type and a neighbor had to tell me about it after I went nuts looking for a vent or baseboard. It has a thermostat for every major area.

    Does this heat pose a fire hazard? Is any maintenance or regular inspection necessary? Since the wires are in the ceiling can something happen and the wires catch fire? Also does this make it more likely for the ceiling to develop cracks?

  • Do you need or should you use an Organic Vapor respirator when painting walls with Latex paint?

    I am sensitive to chemicals and usually my throat gets a little irritated. I am moving into a new condo and will be painting the walls and removing carpet. I am getting a P100 filter for dust, but I don't know if I need a filter that also has Organic Vapor filtration. The P100 filter I see says it offers Vapor Relief(Nuisance level filtration). I would hate to get a OV cartridge for a one time use, because I read that you are suppose to throw them out after 30 days? Any info is much appreciated.

  • What type of flooring is best for a washer and dryer?

    I am having carpet installed in our condo, but I know that you shouldn't put a washer and dryer on carpet. I was going to section off an area and put different flooring in place of the carpet. What type of flooring is best to use? Should I just go with a very thin, dense carpet? Or some sort of hard floor?

  • What do you recommend for carpeting?

    We are looking at buying some carpet from Home Depot. They seem to have a few different brands. Does anyone have a recommendation? Also, since I am new to picking out carpet I wanted to know what I should look for as far as pricing per square foot. What price range should we look for if we want a medium quality carpet? Pretty much this is our first home and we are on a tighter budget. We want to go cheaper but not so cheap that it looks bad or gets easily damaged.

  • Opinion on putting washer and dryer in kitchen / dining room?

    It looks as though we would have more options for a washer and dryer if we put our washer and dryer units into a corner in the dining room/ kitchen area. The cabinets, stove, and cooking area are far enough away from the main kitchen as to not really be "In the kitchen" but it would be an eye soar until we made a custom enclosure for it. We are debating this because we are moving into a condo that does have a small closet that can fit a washer and dryer but it has no easy way of venting out and not to mention we would have to get a compact model. The corner in the kitchen is an external wall that appears to give simple and direct access to the outside. I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any other drawbacks to doing this that I might not have thought of. Thanks in advance.

  • Venting an Electric Dryer?

    Have some questions about a new washer and dryer setup that I hope someone can help with. We are moving into a condo and the only real place we can put a washer and dryer is in a closet that really has no way of being vented. I was told by the inspector and a plumber that since we would be using an electric dryer that we don't have to vent it. They mentioned about just using some sort of "collection" container? I wasn't sure what this was all about but did a little research and found what I believe they are talking about. Seems like it would do the job of collecting lint, but people say that it still forces excess moisture and heat into the home and area.

    This led us to research ventless dryers and so far we really only found one and that is a WM3455HW model from LG. This seems like the perfect solution( 110 volt, ventless, and compact enough to fit in the space we need it to. However, I am reading many complaints about it building up lint and eventually not working because of this. It seems like a great machine otherwise.

    So bottom line. Here is what I need to know. 1) Is the containment method I mentioned a viable option or is it unsafe/unhealthy to do this? 2) Do you know of any other options such as the LG model described above or is LG really the only one that makes this? 3) If you happen to know anything about this LG model from experience please let me know. Any and all advice is much appreciated.

    Thank you in advance for your help.

  • How do I create a new thread(s) that draws to the screen?

    Ok, so I am sort of new to JAVA programming. My primary interest right now is to make Java games as a hobby and if I get good enough publishing something on the Android market. For now I am just practicing with a program, but I am having trouble with one thing.

    Right now I have a main game loop that constantly redraws the screen. Since I need to slow this thread down but continue to draw other items as a faster rate I need to make a new thread. The problem is I am not sure how to go about making a new thread that also draws to the screen without actually starting a thread from a thread. I did this and realized that the other thread's sleep was affecting the other one. Long story short, this is the code I have in a particular class. What would I need to do to setup a new thread that uses Graphics2D? Where would be the best place to define a new Thread put the new Thread.start()? Do I have to make a new class that creates an entirely new PaintComponent()? Or would I simply create a new Graphics2D object so I can use different font colors and such? I guess what confuses me most is that I can't just call the method I want to work independently of the other thread because I still need to pass g2d as the argument. So it seems I need to make the thread from within another method that already has the g2d object. If this is confusing I do apologize as I am still a beginner to JAVA. If you need more information just let me know and I will update my question.

    public abstract void draw(Graphics2D g2d);

    @Override

    public void paintComponent(Graphics g)

    {

    Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D)g;

    super.paintComponent(g2d);

    draw(g2d);

    }
