I support adopting and spaying and neutering. I am a fan of bully breeds and I own a pitbull mix. I also own a corgi and a chihuahua. I am also owned by 3 cats and 2 ferrets. Please get your pets spayed and neutered and don't keep your betta in a bowl. Bowls are for soup not fish.

  • Cat Birthday Party Ideas?

My little kitty is turning a year old and I want to have a small birthday party for her and her sister, Pickle. I'm going to make a cake out of a can of her favorite pate and I got her a toy mouse that squeaks when a cat hits it. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what else I could do for her birthday. Thanks!

  • How do I stop my ferrets from?

How do I stop my ferrets from eating everything? My 2 year old ferret, Jupiter, is at the emergency vet right now. He had surgery yesterday to take out a piece of cloth that he ate that got clogged up. $7,000 dollars for total surgery and care. I'm really tired of letting my ferrets out because all they do is just eat everything. I've had to replace my bed spread twice because they literally eat it up. My carpet has also been munch on. I can't tell you how many hammocks I've had to replace (probablly about 8 or 9). And if I give them towels or blankets to sleep on they eat that as well. I've tried just putting potty pads for them to lay on but those were also shredded. I put a few socks in their cage to sleep in and 1 totally disapeered and the other was half eaten. What do I give them to sleep on? How do I stop them from eating it? Bitter Apple has no affect on them even if I drench it. I know it can't be just a phase cause they have been doing this for over 2 years know. Rosie is 3 years old and Jupiter is 2 so they aren't teething. Once I have money again I'm going to purchase a playpen and some edible ferret toys.

So please help me how do I stop them from eating everything!?!?

  • Are my ferrets ok? They seem weird?

I have 2 ferrets. Rosie is the runt of the litter and she is usually playful but she loves to sleep a lot too. She usually is the more calm one. Jupiter is my other ferret he is a year younger than Rosie and he is my baby. He usually is bouncing around the room and gets into trouble. Now I'm a little concerned because it seems like they switch positions and now Rosie is having a giant dooking spree and Jupiter is sleeping in the middle of the floor even though I let them out of their cage just 15 minutes ago. I just wanted to make sure everything is ok. Let me know if anything is wrong. Oh and their poop isn't runny, I don't know if that has anything to do with it though. They are 2 and 3 years old too. Thanks!

  • 2 fish questions? Please help?

    1. I had 5 guppies in my 10 gallon tank. I asked a friend to come feed them while I was on vacation. I didn't think that she would need to replace 10% of the water each week that I was gone (3 weeks), but when I got home I found 1 dead, took it out and didn't worry about it. Then about 3 or 4 days later one got clamped fins and died. 2 days later the same thing happens, then I changed the 10% and then the sick one died later. I only have one left and he's really healthy. He's been the only one in the tank for 2 or 3 weeks now. I was wondering if the tank is safe to get a few more guppies/other small fish or not.

    2. would a heater for 2-15 gallon tanks be able to go in a 1.5 gallon tank? The heater is 50 watts and turns off automaticlly when it reaches 75 degrees.

  • Is my kitten insane or sick?

I got a kitten 3 days ago and she is adorable but she is constantly meowing and she stares at this picture i have and screams at it. It's a picture of farm and I think she might have come from a farm because of how dirty she was when I found her. I know she is at least 5 weeks old but she still lays on my lap and paws at my leg like she is trying to nurse. She also makes a funny noise when she eats, It sounds like she is trying to meow. She also is climbing your leg constantly. Is she insane? Or is she hurt or sick?

  • Please Please Please Help!!!?

All of my guppies have been dying within a 2 weeks. I had 5 in my 10 gallon tank then one got sick and died then after about 3 days another died then today another one died. They aren't very old either. They get clamped fins, swim really slow, and their gills look abnormally red. The wierdest part is that it doesn't look like all of them are sick just one at a time then when that one dies the other one starts to look sick within an hour. I now only have 2 left and one of thems fins are starting to clamp. I changed 20% of the water yesterday. Do any of you know whats wrong?

  • Whats wrong with my guppies?

I had 5 guppies in my 10 gallon tank and I got them all at the same fish store but the most recent one I got was at a pet store. That one died about a week ago, I don't know why but then another one died 2 days ago. It looked like its fins were really clamped together and it gills were red. My smallest guppy is starting to get clamped fins and red gills. What kind of disease is this? How can I treat it before they all die? I don't have a separate quarantine tank either.

Another really weird thing is that I've found both of the dead ones in the same corner on the gravel. I don't know if that has anything to do with it though.

  • Kitten questions? Will it ever be tame?

We've been feeding a mama cat and her kittens that are obviously feral. They look 5-8 weeks old. I finally got them in my garage and I was able to catch the calico kitten. She is so cute and I really want to keep her but will she ever be tame? I want a cat that I can cuddle and play with but I'm afraid this one is too wild. She is the tamest of all of them but she isn't exactlly what I would call tame. She hides in the back of the pet kennel and digs into the towel to get away. I don't want her to grow up being scared of people and wild. Thanks! No mean comments please.

  • why are bettas so weird?

I was at my friends house and she got a new tank for her betta. He was in a 1 gallon corner tank before then she got him a 3 gallon with a heater. It's really spacious and he has so much more room to swim, yet he stays at the bottom and looks like hes dying. When I saw him like this I got really sad because I just lost my cat to cancer and I'm tired of seeing things die. Is it normal for him to be like this? He moves his gills really slow and just sits there. He used to be in a 1 gallon tank with nothing in it but 1 plant and before that was in a 1/4 gallon tank. He was really happy and swam around a lot when he was in the 1 gallon then he was moved to a bigger tank with 3 silk plants, airstone, lighting, and a heater then hes suddenly less lively and looks about ready to die. My friends upset about it and I really just want to know if this is normal or not. The tank also has most of his old tanks water in it and 2 gallons of new and dechlorinated water. She put in the old gravel and some new in it too. I added a little tetra safe start but it just made it cloudy so we took about half of the water out and added new water.

    Thanks!

  • Can anyone help me feel better about my cat?

My cat has been sick for a few weeks now and just today my vet told me she has tumors in her lungs and stomach. There isn't anything they can do to save her. Tomorrow we are taking her to vet to end her suffering. Shes the best cat ever and I can't stop crying. I crying really hard as I type this. I've seen a lot of other people on here ask for help over a loss of a pet but I never thought that would have to be me. She's such a unique cat. She doesn't like tuna but she'll eat your pizza crust. She doesn't like toys but she attacks the laundry pile. I'm so heartbroken cause she doesn't deserve it and shes so young. I'm always going to be sad because everything reminds me of her. Pencils were her best friends, She loved going for walks outside, and she used to go onto the hood of my fish tanks to drink out of the filter. She is so skinny now and she can't meow anymore. Shes also been puking a lot. The vet said it wasn't my fault but I still feel like I did it to her. She was such a good cat, she would go in her litter box even when it wasn't the cleanest and she never hissed at people and she tolerated so much grief. Can anyone help me stop crying? Shes the best cat in the world and I would do anything for her.

I love you Hugs (aka Kitty)

  • can someone please help me with my cat!?

My cat is always wanting to go outside but every time he does he kills baby rabbits and birds. Ive seen him almost get hit by cars many times and my neighbors are complaining about him killing wild animals. When I keep him inside he will spray pee on every thing and any time you open a door he will find a way to dart out the door. Hes neutered and my other cats are spayed and most of our neighbors have dogs so the only reason he wants out is to hunt. I'm afraid I might have to have him put to sleep because he won't stop peeing all over the house. He even sprayed in my purse today! He will do anything to go outside and I know he might break the screen on the window to get out. All the people I know who live out on farms would keep him outside all the time even when it's freezing outside and don't care much about cats/pets. I know if I took him to the shelter he would just end up being put to sleep. He pees all over himself when he goes to the vet and is really hard to catch. Can anyone help me!? I really don't know what to do! He just walked up to me and peed on my leg! I really really need help!

  • Just got some Java moss, good or bad idea?

I have a 10 gallon guppy tank, with 4 guppies in it now. I plan to get a couple more, just like 1 or 2. I have 4 artifial plants and gravel. I also have a heater that keeps it on 78 degrees. I also have a powerfilter. When I got my 2 most recent guppies, I also decided to get about a baseball size amount of Java moss. When I took it out at home it immediatlly spread out ( i just dropped it in the tank like the guy told me to). I read today that it can be hard to control and will block up your filter. It also said it will cling onto any fake plants. Did I make a bad decision buying this? I dont want it to ruin my tank. I already see stringy bits all over the tank and in the fake plants. The smallest guppy seems to like it to hide in. So what am I getting my self into?

1 extra question: If I've been getting my guppies from a fish store can I get 1 guppy from Walmart or Petsmart because thats where they have the best sunset guppies. My friend thinks it will mess up my tank to get them from different places.

  • Is my guppy dying? Please Help!?

I'm cycling my tank using 2 guppies and they seem to be doing fine except one is staying at the bottom. They have been in there for 3 days now, so they arent just scared of their new enviroment. • What wrong with my betta?

My betta has been acting weird lately. He has been laying at the bottom of the tank and is looking weird. When I got him he had beautiful curved with fins and now they are grey and looked torn. He has silk plants in his tank so his fins are being torn by plastic. He is temporally living in a small 1.5 gallon tank with no filter or heater. I know this is horrible living conditions for any fish but I am saving up for a 3 gallon and heater. Will this help his fins grow back or is there medicine I can buy for him? Thanks! Please Don't yell at me about the size because I know it is a problem and I'm trying to fix it.

  • HELP PLEASE!!!?(20 characters)?

I want to get this beautiful black orchid betta that I saw at this one fish store. He is $20 which is a little spendy but I dont care! I dont have much room to put it so I'm going to keep it in a 2.5 gallon tank with a 10-25 watt heater and tetra whisper 3i filter. How much would it cost to buy the fish, filter, heater, and the tank (this is the what I want except 2.5 gallons not 15: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.tes... ). About how much will this cost? I have $55 right now going towards it. I want to get the fish soon because I'm afraid someone else will bye it or it will die.

  • Female Bettas Questions?

    If I keep female bettas

    1. Will they fight even if they are in a group of 4 or 5

    2. Since the females carry the eggs do they have to mate or are they fine if you just leave them alone.

    3. Can I keep them in even groups, I've heard that they can only be kept in odd groups

4.Do they all have to be the same type (as in halfmoon, plakat, veiltail, ect.) to live in peace?

  • Is this a good way to cycle a tank?

I went to this one really nice fish store and the owner was showing me products for cycling an aquarium. I asked about ammonia that you add to the water to start the cycle and he said that he's had a lot of people come in and ask for help because they have an ammonia problem in their tank from using this stuff. He said tetra safe start works really well but it's for cycling with fish. I bought the stuff and it says that it helps add bacteria to help lower ammonia. I was thinking of adding water and letting my tank run for 3 or 4 days then adding 2 guppies(by the way, my tank is a 10 gallon) and the Tetra Safe-start, and a fake plant that I'm letting sit in one of my established aquariums(I got the tank with fish that had lived in it a year from my friend who just didn't have the time to maintain the tank) for a few days. I'm hoping that the plant will have some good bacteria to help to after that. After about 2 weeks I might add 1 or 2 fish. I want to have 5 or 6 in my tank when all the cycling is done. Is this a good way to cycle with fish or am I doing it all wrong?

oh and by the way I have 2 bettas each in a 5 gallon right now but I'm not an expert with tropical fish.
