  • How do I find when a particle is at rest?! Answer in the book doesnt work!?

Question is: Distance x metres at t seconds of a particle moving in a straight line from fixed point O is given by x=2-2cos2t . Find times when particle is at rest and where it is at these times.

I thought it was pretty straight forward, differentiate for velocity and particle is at rest when v = 0 (then sub values into first equation for their position). So 4sin2t = 0 when t = pi/2 and pi. which reflects the graph i grew initially perfectly and makes sense. THEIR values for t are 21pi/36 and 5pi/6 ?? They don't even equal 0? So I'm totally confused and frustrated. Please help!

    Thank you

Does anybody know a website that can show me examples using trig functions and not just regular equations?

  • What does "codec not supported" mean?

I downloaded Tin Tin in 1080 HD blu ray but when I went to play it on our Samsung television the movie played but there was no sound. It came up with a message saying "codec not supported". What does this mean and can I fix it to play the movie with sound? It won't play in Windows movie player on my laptop either.

    Thanks

  • How do you integrate (2x+5)/(x+4)dx?

I'm not sure how to integrate when you have to make it into two fractions before you can integrate! How do I know what to change it to? Is there a sequence of steps to follow or something? (It does not involve long division etc as that's 3 unit)

Please explain simply! Thanks so much :)

  • How do I differentiate y= lnx/e^x?

I thought it would be straightforward as e^x is e^x (or-e^x in this questions) and lnx is 1/x, and assumed i'd just change it to e^-x ln x and then solve using product rule.

    But the answer is (1 - x ln x)/ xe^x

In the top line, I have no idea where the 1 has come from, nor do I know where the x in front of the lnx has come from.

    I did: (e^-x . 1/x) + (lnx . -e^-x)

    Then 1/xe^x - lnx/e^x etc.

and i can't even think anymore trying to figure out what they have done!

  • When do you use integration by parts over u-substitution?

The whole chapter I have been using u-substitution, and all of a sudden I have to integrate xe^x and u-substitution doesn't work. There is nowhere at the start of the chapter telling me how to do integration by parts (which I'm assuming is what I have to do) which is soooo helpful :/

Anyway, I'm just wondering, how do I know when I have to use integration by parts instead of u-substitution?

  • Which sector 9 longboard to buy?

It will be used for mainly cruising and downhill but not ridiculous speeds. I like the look of the Barra, Green Bush, Jakes, Nicaragua, Snapper, Mama Say but really don't know the best way to pick a board besides looks.

  • Is there a difference between a horizontal point of inflexion and a point of inflexion?

Are they the same thing? And if not, what is the difference?

If f"(x) has a change in concavity I'm under the impression it is a horizontal point of inflexion. When is it just a point of inflexion?

  • How can I play Call Of Duty Black Ops and Fallout New Vegas on two separate Steam accounts?

I bought COD for my dad for Christmas and installed it under my Steam account. He tried to play it today under his account but it only gave him the option to 'purchase' the game. This isn't fair, I bought it so we could both play. How do I set it up so we can both play the game I paid $100 for?
