Animals are my passion, ferrets being number one. I have 6 of my own, have had a total of 8 since March of 2006. I've spent a lot of time researching them & learning as much as I possibly can & I'm working on my own ferret site. I also have chinchillas & have experience with cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, & fish. I taught preschool for about 6 years. I have experience with kids from infants all the way up to the fun teenage years, most of my experience being with 1-4yr olds. I currently work at Walmart in the toy dept. (couldn't get away from the kids completely) & just recently took over as dept. manager. I'm also a hockey fan. I mostly just pay attention to the AHL, but catch a little NHL here & there. I'm a huge Hershey Bears fan! I love meeting & chatting with new people, so feel free to email me. Come visit me on Facebook! - http://www.facebook.com/jlwindy ~Jεssιcα~

  • People that can't park?

We live on a block with parallel parking spots running down the road. The problem is, there's this one family that can't parallel park - there's always at least three cars from people in their house that take up two spots each. It drives my family insane because half the time there's nowhere for us to park out front because of these people (it's really annoying when we do our weekly stock up on groceries, personal, and pet supplies and we have to make ten trips back and forth across the street). Anyway, my question is, when we see these people parked like this, can we report it to the police or will we just be a nuisance for doing so? I hate to bug the police over something so little, but at the same time it's not fair for the other people on the street to not have a place to park because of them. It's not like it's a big deal for us to have to park across the street, my problem is that they're just so inconsiderate of the others living on this street - they act as though they own the whole block (not just with the parking) and we're sick of it.

  • Will Yahoo do away with the thumbs down?

Do you think Yahoo would ever get rid of the "thumbs down" option? Do you wish they would? It wouldn't be a problem if it was actually used right, but it seems that most of the thumbs down are handed out by "trolls" or someone that just doesn't like the person their giving a TD to. I know I get annoyed when I get a TD and I also think it's annoying when I see other people receiving TDs for their good answers. If I disagree with someone, I just state my side and forget about the TDs. I know, it's nothing to get in a tizzy about, but it's still annoying, and I was just wondering if anyone else out there wished Yahoo would get rid of the TD. The thumbs up are fine - I don't think anyone's going to give someone they don't like a TU, so it's not something that can be abused like the TD. Or do away with both and put in a five star rating scale (but I guess that could be abused, too). Just curious as to what everyone else's opinions are about this.

  • for the ferret owners - fun questionnaire?

There was a ferret questionnaire going around one of the groups I belong to, I had fun reading the answers, so I thought I'd post one on here. Most of the questions come from the one posted on the group, and then I added a couple of my own. It's kind of long, but hopefully you'll enjoy it.

    1. Do any of your ferrets ever "pretend" to go potty?

    2. Do your ferrets do the "scootin bootin" after potty?

    3. Have any of your ferrets ever stolen something and then hissed at you when you try to steal it back?

    4. Do any of your ferrets sleep on their backs with their paws in the air?

    5. Do any of them sleep with their tongues hanging out?

    6. Do any of them sleep on their backs in their hammocks with their heads hanging out upside down? Do their little noses touch the floor, too?

    7. Do your ferrets snore or make any other noises in their sleep?

    8. Have any of your ferrets tried to fly as if they think they CAN fly?

    9. Do you give your ferrets raspberry kisses on their bellies?

    10. Have any of your shoes and/or slippers ever "magically" appeared in your ferret's stash spot?

    11. What's the weirdest thing you've found in your ferret's stash spot?

    12. Which one of your ferrets jumps the highest when they do their "happy dance?"

    13. Do any of your ferrets plow over anything and everything in their path when they start doing their "happy dance?"

    14. Use one word to describe each of your ferrets.

    15. Would you trade your ferret(s) for a million dollars?

    My answers:

    1. Not so much anymore, but they all did it at one time when I first litter-trained them (I was using treats, so they would pretend to go just for a treat!).

    2. Yep, they all do it.

    3. Zoey does it ALL the time - for a tiny little thing, she sure does have A LOT of attitude!

    4. Yep, the only one I haven't seen sleep like that is Zoey, and Chloe sleeps like that the most out of all of them.

    5. Yes, it's so cute! =)

    6. Cooper does a lot, but his nose doesn't touch the floor (the hammock is too high up from the cage floor).

    7. Sometimes, it's usually Cooper.

    8. Zoey & Dodger are always launching through the air from one thing to another!

    9. Hehe, yeah, I do.

    10. Yes! Well, they used to, I've learned to keep the shoes and slippers hidden when the little fuzzbutts are out!

    11. I usually set my clothes for the next day out on my desk after I get home from work. One morning I noticed my bra, underwear, and one sock were missing. I looked under the bed, and there they were, in Zoey's stash spot with her other favorite stash toys.

    12. Hmm...probably Zoey.

    13. Yeah, Sammy! The other ferrets are always getting trampled over by him, he's even ran over a few sleeping cats!

    14. Dodger - the boss (and rightfully so, he was the first); Zoey - feisty; Chloe - goofy; Sammy - clutzy; Cooper - clueless (he just has this clueless look on his face all the time)

    15. NEVER!

  • Best time to dig and re-plant flowers?

I tried my hands at gardening for the first time this year - I love everything I have, but not the way it's arranged. I'd like to know when I can start rearranging the plants. One person told me it depends on each plant - some should be moved after they die for the season, others should be moved before they're ready to bloom next year. Another person told me it's best to do all of them after they die this season. So, when can I start digging and rearranging my plants and flowers? Does it depend on each plant or can I do them all at once? If it makes any difference, I live in PA in zone 6. Thanks!

  • Could my dog have diabetes?

We have an eight year old lab/dalmatian/hound mix. She's been really good about going to the bathroom outside, but lately she's been having accidents. About five or six weeks ago she had her first - she peed twice in the house during the night. Last night she had her second accident, this time she only peed once during the night. My mom also made the comment that she's been drinking a lot lately. However, I've been home all week and she doesn't really drink that much, but she does seem to gulp down a good bit of water at night before bedtime. We've been having one problem after another with a lot of our pets, so I don't know if I'm over-reacting or what, but should I be concerned about diabetes? She doesn't seem to have lost any weight and I don't notice a sweet smell to her breath, either. So, am I over-reacting and they were only accidents, or should I have her tested for diabetes? It just seems odd, eight years of no accidents, and now two accidents within a little over a months time. Is there anything else I should be worried about? Sorry if this seems stupid to some people but, like I said, we've been dealing with one health problem after another with our pets lately, so I've been worrying a lot more about all of them. Hopefully I'm just over-reacting, but I'd really like some other people's opinions. Thanks!

  • backyard landscaping help?

We moved into this house last summer & now that warmer weather is coming, I'd like to focus some time on making the backyard look nicer. It's small (16.5'W by 39.5'L, plus a large deck). I have no idea what to do with it & was hoping some of you might have some design ideas. I will be putting up some new fencing (I was leaning towards this bamboo fencing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1... ). I'd also like to have some flowers (I live in Hardiness Zone 6, if that helps with floral suggestions) & possibly a small pond or maybe just a pond-less waterfall (this would go back in one of the corners near the garage). Any flowers would have to be put in a raised flower bed (becaue of the dog). If it helps, here's a link to some pictures of my backyard: http://s283.photobucket.com/albums/kk281/xbeautifu... I'd appreciate any design ideas you might have to make it look nicer! Thanks!

  • Homeopathic pet care?

Does anyone know anything about homeopathic pet care or has anyone ever treated their pet with homeopathic care? I recently had one of my chinchillas at the vets and he was treated with flower essences - http://www.equilite.com/ Here's a similar product: http://www.bachflower.com/ The vet first used one to calm him down (and it worked) so she could examine him and then prescribed one for me to give him to help with stress (he's a high stress, fur-biter). I was just curious if anyone else has ever used flower essences to treat their pet or some other type of homeopathic care (ozone therapy, accupunture, and I forget what all else the vet mentioned). If you have used something natural, did it work? If you haven't used it, is it something that would interest you or are you more into "conventional" treatments?
