  • how do I identify a ring's hallmark?

I have a 10K gold ring with what I strongly suspect to be a large oval ruby stone inset. How do I positively identify the maker by the hallmark? The symbol appears to be "VF", with the "F" formed off the right side of the "V". Any suggestions?

  • Why is my computer trying to download internet links?

This started yesterday, and I am befuddled.... When doing a search (both in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox), many links will download instead of loading the page. This is occurring when directly clicking on the link, opening a new tab, and open in new window. I have NEVER had this issue before. When a new tab or window option is selected, the tab or window opens blank, no address in the address bar, and then there's the download... Any ideas?

  • I suspect I have Asperger's Syndrome. What now?

I was diagnosed with ADHD in 200, at the age of 21. While I have always known I was "different", ADHD conflicts with how, when I am involved in doing something I actually have interest in, I tend to lose all connection with my surroundings and the passing of time-- I "zone out" (for lack of a better description). I have recently learned of Asperger's Syndrome, the identifying traits fit my, well... issues. When I was diagnosed with ADHD my IQ test score was 148. I have never been able to make or keep friends, and my social incapabilities have cost me my job over and over and over again. I have MANY obsessions ranging from composing music, repairing cars (actually, fixing anything I can find that needs fixin'...), computers, World War 2 aircraft, woodworking, and quantum physics. (the latter tends to frustrate me but yet I can't stop reading up on it... sooooo fascinating!).

N-E-Ways.... I am currently unemployed (again), on state assistance which means the only insurance I have is good ol' Medi-Cal. As an undiagnosed adult, I understand it is difficult to find professional help. Compounded with my near-nonexistent medical coverage, I know my quest for a legitimate diagnosis and treatment plan are extremely limited. I DON'T want to be put onto a regiment of psychocheminexia pills (yeah, that's a joke-- the ADHD medication I was put on messed me up BAD), but a diagnosis, at least, would verify my suspicions, help me understand myself and help others understand why I am the way that I am. My family disowned me YEARS ago due to my personality issues-- to them I am a self-centered uncaring rectum-parasite with other unpleasant four lettered descriptive words thrown in on the occasion. Provided I DO have Asperger's and I'm not being a rectum-parasite, they may finally understand that I have communication and comprehension difficulties. I live in the Long Beach Ca area, is there ANYONE who may have any information or resources I could follow up on?

And for all the haters and smack talkers who I KNOW will be trash typing rudeness here-- I really don't care. I've been subjected to your nonsense and abuse all my life, I don't care what you have to say. I may not know how to express them but I do have feelings...BUT--- I've heard worse, and after you're done ranting---

    I'M STILL SMARTER THAN YOU.

I have the brains to look for solutions to my problems while you wallow in your own filth.

  • Does anyone know of any therapists specializing in Asperger's Syndrome in the Long Beach Ca area?

I live in Long Beach CA, and have recently learned that my diagnosis of being ADHD may have been Asperger's Syndrome misdiagnosed. At the time I received my diagnosis of ADHD A.S. was not commonly recognized in the region I was in...

  • Would a three day eviction notice be considered a family emergency?

My fiancee's cousin was fired for "unexcused absence". He had received a three day notice to remove all his and his pregnant girlfriend's property from their apartment, which with no family close by and his girlfriend being pregnant, he was the only one capable of doing the physical labor, and without a vehicle. It took him the full three days to accomplish this. He had shown his employer the eviction notice with the short time frame but was still terminated. He had been working for this employer for three years.

Doesn't this situation fall under "family emergency"?

If yes, wouldn't this be considered unlawful termination?

Will he be denied unemployment benefits just because the employer deems the absence "unexcused", even though the absence was to take care of a very real and documented family emergency?

This occurred in Los Angeles County, CA

  • Is there a term for non-religious pagan?

I am curious as to if there is a term for or even a community of non-religious pagans-- being that there is no theological doctrine or belief only a spiritual path, possibly based around the philosophy that the concept of "God" is that of essence not entity.

  • renting a room in a house owned by a company that's out of business....?

I am in process of renting a room from someone in a house, the room mate wanted ad was in the local newspaper. The person renting the house out is only a renter, she has tole me that the owner of the property gave her permission to rent the room. I contacted the local tax office to confirm this information, they told me the owner of the property was a property management company, but in trying to contact the company I found out that they went out of business. This seems extremely odd, does anyone have any suggestions or comments? Is there anything I should be cautious or weary about? How do I speak with the actual owner?

  • Can a landlord require a potential tenant to pay for a credit check in California?

I am looking to rent a place to stay in the Antelope Valley, and a few places I have inquired on have requested me to provide them with a copy of my credit report made within the last two weeks. Generally they refer me to a link to a credit score website requesting credit card and bank account information. Isn't it the burden of the potential landlord to perform the credit check, or at least include that cost in the application fee? I have a feeling these may be scams.....

  • Does anyone know of a good website that will have a parts compatibility list for Ford trucks?

I have a 1991 F-150, and I'm considering buying a 1990 Bronco for parts but would like to know if certain parts can be swapped out. Is there a website that will list what parts will fit on what?

Biggest concern-- will the crossmember from a 1990 4WD Bronco, with a 5.7L engine/manual lock hubs fit on a 1991 F-150 4WD with the 5.0L engine with automatic locking hubs.... (no I don't know if they both have the same transmission, all I know is both trannys are automatic)

  • Why is it questions that require REAL knowledge never get answered?

Questions regarding technical knowledge or understanding of engineering, sometimes those requiring just a SMALL AMOUNT of common sense or "been there, done that" experience seem to be left unanswered (minus the responses rewording the question or ranting on about an unrelated topic.... TROLLTALK.) For instance a couple weeks ago I posted a question regarding a troubleshooting issue I had with a liquid piston stirling engine, and not only were there no attempts to answer the question, within three days it was flagged and removed! Why is this?

  • will a cross member from a 1990 4X4 Bronco with the 5.7L engine fit a 1991 F-150 4X4 with a 5.0L engine?

I need to replace the cross member (as well as tranny mount) on my F-150 truck, and I've found a cheap Bronco. But are the cross members compatible?

    The Bronco is a 1990 4WD, with the 5.7L eninge. My truck is a 1991 4WD with a 5.0L engine.

Will they swap out? Also, what about the tie rods?

    Thanks....

  • What do you call a machine that has no real purpose?

It's called something like the Rothberg engine, but I can't remember exactly. Usually these things are really complicated looking, the more bells and whistles the better, but does not true work. What is the term? First post with the correct name gets the best answer vote!

    Thanks!

  • Can a person be arrested for possession of stolen property without being in posession of stolen property?

My father-in-law was arrested at the court house last week for "possession of stolen property". He is currently sitting in jail over this, but the issue is--- he was not in possession of stolen property! The investigator, the D.A. office, and the sheriff station have stonewalled all attempts to verify WHAT property they accuse my father-in-law of being in possession of. Can a person be charged and detained on this charge when he was NOT in possession of any stolen property? How can Los Angeles County Sheriffs blatantly violate an American citizens civil rights this way?

  • I got bit by a spider in my room at Motel 6. Are they liable?

I'm having serious headaches and stomach cramps, my neck and shoulders are cramping really bad. Is the hotel responsible for this? I was bit on the arm by something (assuming a spider but not for sure, it lumped up really big really fast!)

  • Is there anyone interested in helping design a new game?

I am making a hybrid game combining the hobby of card modeling, the D20 game system, and aircraft. I currently have several planes in beta design completed-- models are constructible and they have stats that ma or may not need streamlining. I could really use someone who is good at digital design (to help bring the different planes from a 3-view image to a simple 3D model-- I've been using paintbrush-- YUCK!), coloring in (more digital imaging) and also help looking up stats for the planes such as fully loaded weight, top speed, armaments, etc...

I have some of the game dynamics worked out but there's still a long way to go before the game is tester-ready.

I have full intention on marketing this game to companies such as Topps, Milton Bradley, Wizards of the Coast, etc... so anyone who helps in the development will be co-owners in the copyright.

  • Has anyone got a response from UFW's "take our jobs" campaign?

at www.takeourjobs.org, you can fill out a form to be placed in an agriculture job that would normally be filled by illegal workers. Over a week ago I submitted my information, and as of yet I haven't even received a confirmation, much less a job offer. Has anyone else signed up and was actually contacted back? The UFW can't say that legal workers aren't willing to do the work if they refuse to follow through with their campaign.... My thoughts are that they are having a larger response from legal workers than they thought they would and are holding out to make themselves look good.
