How do I say "yes, you can take the chair" in Tamil?
For this example, let’s say you are in a coffee shop and you are sitting by yourself at a table with 2 chairs. A Tamil speaking person approaches you and ask if he can take the unused chair from your table. You want to reply with, “Yes. You can take the chair” in Tamil language.
I want to reply with “amaam” (yes), followed by a sentence politely telling them to take the chair. However, a Tamil speaker told me not to use “amaam” in this situation, so I am not sure.
I was told to say Eduthukkoyen (if the person is younger than me) or edhuthukkongalen (if the person is older), i.e. please take it. I am unsure if this is the correct response, so please reply to this thread and tell mw what you think.
Also please type Eduthukkoyen and edhuthukkongalen in Tamil script if you know it. I think the verb + imperative suffix is எடுத்துக்கோ, but I may be wrong about this.
Another question, can I use “Indhaa (Here you go!) - when giving something” as I gesture with my hand to take the chair. Kind of like, “here, here, take the chair!”.

1 AnswerLanguages6 years agoQuestion about using a diiferent word for ਬਹੁਤ / بہُت in Punjabi language?
This question is regarding the degree of mutual intelligibility (or lack thereof) of the Pashto word ډېره (pronounced ɖe̞·ra) with Punjabi.
I would use it interchangeably with the word ਬਹੁਤ بہُت which is an adjective meaning much, many, etc..
Example: A Punjabi speaker gives you some food and you reply ډېره شکریہ / ਡੇਰਾ ਸ਼ੁਕਰੀਆ instead of بہُت شکریہ / ਬਹੁਤ ਸ਼ੁਕਰੀਆ
In no way, am I saying Pashto and Punjabi are related (beyond both being part of the Indo-Iranian phylum). Pashto is an Eastern Iranian language and Punjabi is an Indo-Aryan language. I am just curious if I can get away with using ਡੇਰਾ / ڈيره as an adjective for much, many, etc. like ਬਹੁਤ / بہُت
Note: Punjabi Shahmukhi does not have some of the letters from the Pashto alphabet. Therefore Pashto ډېره is spelled ڈيره in Punjabi Shahmukhi and Urdu. This question is intended for Punjabi speakers, but anyone who has something to contribute can reply.
1 AnswerLanguages6 years agoWould the average Punjabi speaker understand this?
In your opinion, will مننه (if used for thank you) be understood by Punjabi speakers? I would use it for thank you, like Punjabi ਧੰਨਵਾਦ or Hindi धन्यवाद. This question is intended for Punjabi speakers, as I am curious to know if مننه would be understood by some of them.Note: مننه is understood to mean thank you by Pashto speakers. My question is specifically asking if this word will be understood by some Punjabi speakers (and my question is directed to them). Feel free to share your opinion about this word. Also, مننه is spelled ਮਾਣਨਾ in Gurmukhi (It means to enjoy or relish. It may have other meanings also). I am curious if this word can also be understood to mean thank you when used in place of ਧੰਨਵਾਦ when I am speaking with Punjabi speakers.
1 AnswerLanguages6 years agoQuestion for Urdu speakers?
In Urdu, to say "thanks", I usually say "shukriyah" (or maybe dhanyavad as they understand that also).
However, if I used "manana", would most Urdu speakers understand this also?

2 AnswersLanguages6 years agoHow do I spell "konjam tharungal" in Tamil script?
konjam = கொஞ்சம் (little, some)
tharungal = ?
I have konjam, so now I just need tharungal typed in Tamil script.
It is used when someone ask you if you want some more (food). You reply "konjam tharungal" to let them know you want more. It directly translates as "little give" or "give me some more".
Thanks for your help.
2 AnswersLanguages6 years agoChinese numerals for time display and battery percentage?
How can I change the numbers used for the time display (top middle area of the screen) and the battery percentage (right uppermost corner of the screen) to Chinese numerals? Changing the language or regional format will not give me the results I want and I would be limited by these edits anyways. I need a way to change these areas to whatever I want.
For example, it reads “14:59 PM 99%” and I want it to read “十四五十九 九十九百分之”
Note: The numbers I used in my example are just made up Chinese numerals. They may be written incorrectly.
1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans7 years agoHow do I address someone with respect in Arabic?
Example, a man bumps into you, you say "afwan" to mean "no problem". However, let's say you want to add a little bit of respect. In Hindi, I just add the word "ji", so I would say "afwan ji", but obviously "ji" is not Arabic. So what would I use to replace "ji"?

I don't like it without Charles. Charles is important, it seems like it is missing something without Charles.
3 AnswersBasketball7 years agoDid flight 370 pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah attend sodomy trial before killing passengers?
I saw on an online forum where Zaharie Ahmad Shah attended a trial of Anwar Ibrahim who was sentenced to 5 years for sodomy. This literally happened just hours before take-off. Why is this not on the news? I think the Malaysian authorities have known from the start that Shah had something to do with the plane's disappearance. It disturbs me that they are collecting Shah's computers first (before the United States has a chance to examine them). I feel they will destroy evidence or botch the evidence. I am confident his computer will contain messages from Shah that clearly indicate he was mentally unstable and capable of doing what the CIA thinks he has done. This is truly a cowardice act.
4 AnswersAir Travel7 years agoDid Zaharie Ahmad Shah murder the passengers on flight 370?
I know many Southeast Asians have mental health problems. Maybe Zaharie Ahmad Shah was just mentally disturbed. I do believe he killed all those innocent people. If he did, this was a cowardice act on an unprecedented level.
4 AnswersOther - Politics & Government7 years agoHow do you pronounce the British English "biro" pen?
Biro (from László Bíró) is sometimes used as a slang word for any ballpoint pen. I have tried asking some people from the UK what is the proper pronunciation and I am getting conflicting answers.
Is it [ˈbiːroː] (sounds like "bee" + "row" (row your boat))
or is it [ˈbaɪ̯ːroː] (sounds like "bye" + "row" (row your boat))
These are the 2 answers I have been given. In the United States, we say [ˈbaɪ̯ːroː] (sounds like "bye" + "row" (row your boat). However, I am wanting to know what the pronunciation is in British English.
2 AnswersLanguages7 years agoHow to force a reboot on a frozen iPhone?
Was trying to update my iPhone to 7.1 and it froze. It has the Apple logo and the progress bar on the screen. I can not turn off the iPhone using any of the buttons on the phone. I have no problem doing a full recovery via iTunes, but I can't do that as the iPhone stays frozen and iTunes doesn't see it. Holding home buttons or power button doesn't do anything.
Have been online looking for solutions for roughly 3 hours and tried many things. This entire time, my iPhone has the Apple logo and the progress bar on the screen. I have no problem resetting everything as I do have a backup, however, I am not able to get iTunes to recognize the device.
Is there some freeware I can download online that will allow me to do a forced reboot via some software?
2 AnswersPDAs & Handhelds7 years agoDo you think Malaysia Airlines flight 370 was a terrorist attack?
The passengers who boarded the flight with stolen passports greatly concerns me. The flight had started to turn back which leads me to believe the plane may have been hijacked and it was going to be flown into a target.
