  • why do my birds poop when I look at them?

I have two conures and whenever I look at them, like if I go to talk to them or give them a treat, they defecate. This is in the cage, on the cage, on the floor, on the perch, literally anywhere. The sight of me makes them take a dump. Why on earth? LOL

  • Why has my lovebird's voice and personality change?

The last couple days my pet lovebird has sounded like a dogs squeeker toy and has acted fearless and dominant around my conures. She normally is afraid of them and has a piercing scream voice. I kid you not she sounds like a dog toy now and when I come near her cage she sounds off like a squeeky toy alarm. lol. why would a peach face lovebird change like this suddenly?

  • Anyone here a bird expert who can tell me what my bird's band means?

I have a baby lovebird that is banded and I have done research and I cannot figure out what her band means. It says TCT NC 13

The TCT and NC are written in different directions and the 13 is the only number. Thanks so much!

How do I get my green cheek conure to stop biting my husband?

I have a yellow-sided green cheek conure who is 100% bonded to me...I'm basically her best friend and she is very cuddly and doesn't bite me. She hops up on my hand no problem, without saying "step up". On the other hand there is my husband who is very sweet and patient with her but as soon as he puts his hand in the cage she lunges at it and bites HARD. Is there anything we can do to make her less aggressive toward him? and why is he being that way?

  • 2 and a half month old is miserable 24/7. Why?

My son is 2 and a half months old and since he was born he has been a miserable baby. I feel so badly because he constantly has a pacifier in his mouth and it is just placating him but I know deep down he is very unhappy. Doctor said everything was fine and was of no help for this problem. He cannot be left alone...at all... He sleeps for two hours at a time if hes lucky. I have him strapped to me constantly, or I am sitting there holding him at all times, to stop his crying. He drinks as much as he can and he will drink maybe 5 ounces then start screaming at the top of his lungs so I will burp him, and he will refuse to drink anymore. I make sure I change his diaper even if it just gets a tiny bit wet because I want him to be comfortable. I see all these pictures of cute smiling babies and he will smile once in a while but it will be followed by miserable crying ten minutes later. Swing doesn't work, he doesn't respond to toys or being spoken to. He will only stop crying if I hold him to my chest and even then he whimpers. I feel so badly for my baby and the doctor has given him a clean bill of health but I think there is something very wrong with him. He has suffered with severe colic from day 1 but no one seems to believe me. I have switched to the special bottles to prevent colic by Dr Brown and he still has the problem.

Does anyone have any tricks I can try, to make him happy? I hate seeing my baby boy so miserable. I just want him to be a happy baby. :(

  • What kind of rabbit litter is good for odor but CHEAP?

My rabbit is litter trained but I have found that the pellet litter I was using gets used up really quickly and I cannot afford to keep buying it, so I changed to aspen shavings but the smell is SO BAD. I change it daily but it is so foul I cannot even go in the room without feeling nauseous. The smell of her urine is like rotting fish/body odor smell. It is so vile and I want to know what kind of cheap bedding/litter is best for controlling odor. She is in a room with 7 guinea pigs and birds yet all I smell is that nasty litter box.

  • How can I entertain my young mini rex rabbit doe?

I have a female mini rex rabbit who I keep in a baby playpen thing that gives her around 12 square feet of floor space. She has a litter box in there and her food and water, and a bed to sleep in. She is content when in her playpen. I let her out for about 6 hours a day to run around the room (I have rabbit proofed and I am not working at the moment so shes supervised) but she will not chew on anything but things she isn't supposed to. I have had to block off EVERY cord from her, and she only wants to chew furniture and plastic and none of the toys I have offered her. I have tried cardboard boxes full of hay (she hates timothy hay so this doesnt work for her), I have tried wooden chew toys, ecotrition treat logs, snack shack toy, rubber dog toys, cat scratching posts, cat toys. NOTHING WORKS. I don't know what to do to entertain her so she doesn't destroy things. I have had to make my room look ridiculous just blocking everything off, and the only thing she has to entertain herself is to run laps around the room and I feel like her teeth will get occluded because she doesn't chew on anything I give her. :( She is a sweet rabbit but I just don't know where to turn. She is around 8 months old by the way so still a baby.

  • Help! My baby guinea pigs are crying. How should I placate them?

My sow Jenny gave birth to three sweet babies 3 weeks ago. They are now 21 days old so they have to be separated from her, as they were starting to mount her. They are now living separately but together (they are all boys) and they are crying like there is no tomorrow. I feel bad but I do not want Jenny to be with them at this time so how can I help them not to cry so much from missing her? I have given them lots of food and things to chew on but they are just getting really upset every half hour or so and I don't know how I will get any sleep tonight. (I can't move the cage because it is a C&C and its in my bedroom).

Has anyone had any problems with the babies crying and how did you calm them?

  • Why would this happen to a guinea pig?

I have a guinea pig whom I rescued from neglect. She was seen by a vet for free where my husband works. I had been told she had had URI UNTREATED two years ago by the shithole of an owner. So the vet gave her some baytril and said if she has been breathing badly for two years she always will. The breathing is a bit better now but that isn't the biggest problem.

For two months now she has had nonstop loose stools/diarrhea. She eats all the same stuff as the other pigs (except she doesn't get any veggies anymore because of it). I cannot make it go away. I have tried the meds for intestinal parasites (luckily I can get drugs for free for the animals from the vet inside the store where he works), I have tried wet tail drops (that are apparently not recommended), I have tried mylanta (a vet I called told me this. didn't work as usual). Nothing works. She still acts normal by drinking and eating a bit but her stools are so wet that she cannot live with the other pigs because they use fleece and I have to use bedding with her so she does not stain all the fleece and track **** around on her feet.

She is elderly and in such poor health. Everyone says that when a guinea pig is sick they go downhill and die fast. This one just isn't dying and I don't know what else to do at this point. **** happens and I am not in a position to seek medical treatment for this elderly animal who appears to be way beyond her normal lifespan.

Does anyone have a magical chronic diarrhea treatment that I haven't tried? Or is euthanasia the most humane option. I know that if I had the runs for two months straight I would probably feel awful all the time.

  • Guinea pigs suddenly are not interested in eating?

So I have 5 guinea pigs which I have had for several months/some over a year. The males and females are kept in two separate C&C cages. I have noticed in the last month that the two boys who are both about 6 months old have lost interest in food. I have tried different brands but they were eating perfectly fine for months and suddenly both stopped. I am concerned that they will starve but I offer them fresh pellets, hay, and kale every other day and they will not eat. They used to LOVE kale and now they won't touch it. Both are rather thin. One of them is the offspring of two pigs I bred a while back and the other two babies are beautiful and well fed (not fat but not thin either) and they were rehomed with a friend of mine who also feeds them normally. Mine looks malnourished compared to his and they are all brothers.

My two boys are VERY active despite their anorexia. They run circles in their huge cage and like to play chase each other. They are normal besides the lack of eating. They obviously eat enough to stay alive but are so thin that they look emaciated. Oh and they drink normally.

All of the girls eat nonstop and are healthy looking.

What in your opinion could be causing the boys' anorexia?

What breed of guinea pig is this?

I have a guinea pig which I rescued when someone turned him in at the pet store my husband works at. I keep guineas so I know about the different breeds for the most part, but I cannot determine what this one is. He looks abyssinian but has these huge tufts on his back end.

I have stretched out the tuft so you can see how long it is. It is longer than all the hair on his body.

  • Confused about measurements in an ultrasound?

I will be 21 weeks pregnant this sunday. I just had an anatomy scan when I was 20 weeks and 1 day. The baby measured at 10 ounces in weight and 13.5 cm in length (5.4 inches). Everything was normal according to the doctor. I went on several websites that indicate that a baby is 10.5 inches long at 21 weeks.

Does that mean that my baby will have grown five inches in length in 6 days? That seems off. Has anyone else been confused by that fact on websites? They say 10.5 inches (length of a carrot). I just can't see how he could grow 5 inches in 6 days (lol).

  • How do you overcome food aversion after quitting smoking marijuana?

Ever since I quit smoking marijuana, my desire for food and my ability to cook has diminished. I quit about 7 months ago and since then I have started to hate eating and have gotten to where the process makes me tired and turned off by food. I thought maybe it was because I am pregnant but I quit smoking two months before I got pregnant and noticed this effect immediately. As well, I used to be a great cook, and now, I can't even cook for other people. I ruin everything and I don't have any skill anymore. I was going to culinary school and dropped out because people around me made me quit smoking. So basically, quitting smoking weed has made me drop out of college, and become an anorexic. Has this happened to anyone else? I am PREGNANT and I can't even eat. I get so anxious when I try to eat and foods have no flavor to me anymore. When I smoked I enjoyed lots of healthy veggies and fruits and now i'm lucky if I can get down a PB&J without having a panic attack.

People say oh its great you quit but they don't realize how much its ****** up my life. As well, I have lost all of my friends and have no connections to anyone but my fiance because he is always there for me. My personality is gone and I feel like a husk of my former self. How the hell do people cope when they have to make a huge lifestyle change. Can someone tell me how to make myself eat again without freaking out or feeling ill? And how do I access the part of my brain that weed unlocked that gave me SKILLS and PERSONALITY?

Any input/help would be appreciated. I'm tired of feeling dead and want to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I will have a baby in march and I want to be able to show them GOOD eating habits and not end up with a child who doesn't eat. Thank you

  • Do we live in a society of paranoia?

Is it just me, or do we live in a consistently paranoid society. It seems like everywhere I look there is a new warning or advisory about something we are "doing wrong" in our lives, and this toxic mindset seems to spread to everyday people. We have survived for many years but it seems like when someone tells people they are doing something wrong, they are suddenly afraid of the consequence of not doing it. Examples would be medical advice, parenting advice, animal keeping advice. I used to work for a big name pet retailer and it became so apparent to me that there was a culture of over-analyzing the needs of animals and using these tactics to convince customers that they needed to buy more products that they could definitely do without. As far as parental advice, it seems like the way people raise their kids has to change every decade, when past generations were perfectly fine, having been raised in those ways.

Do we live in a "know-it-all", overly concerned generation? I feel we do and I wondered what other people's opinions of this observation are.

  • Pregnant and not concerned?

Is it normal to be pregnant but NOT be worried about the baby? I am 18 weeks and could not care less honestly. I think they'll come out just fine and I'm more concerned about something happening to ME than something happening to the fetus. If something happened and it meant saving me or the baby, I would opt to save myself. My fiance has the same opinion on this. Though I do feel like he has more concern for them than I do. I just don't really care because I know they'll be fine so I don't go around being paranoid and constantly worrying about things I eat. Is it normal to not care about the baby when you're pregnant?
