Hi! My name is Candis. I'm 25 years old and married to a wonderful man. We have two kids, a 1 and 2 year old! We live in Sunny California where we own our dental office. I manage the office from home so I can be a stay-at-home mommy and my hubby wouldn't have it any other way (man, I'm lucky!). I thank God every day for the blessings he has given me and I try to pass on experiences or things I've learned along the way to others in the yahoo answers community. <3

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: a question regarding the "soul" (I asked earlier but no one answered)?

    Revelation 6:9-11

"When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne. They cried out with a loud voice, "O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been."

If man does not have a separate "immaterial" nature known as the soul, then what is being referred to here?

Notice that the souls exist and are conscious despite the fact that they had been physically slain.

Since these individuals had been physically slain, and since their "souls" are portrayed as conscious in God's presence, doesn't this indicate and immaterial nature that survives physical death?

  • Atheist: How do you believe life originated?

    No snarky answers please.

I'm interested in what the average atheist really believes about the origin of life. Please don't say the "the big bang," but give me a detailed explanation of your belief as to where all the ingredients for life came from.

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: Regarding Jesus' "Spiritual" Resurrection?

The Watchtower Society clearly teaches that man does not have a soul that is separate from the physical body and leaves the body at death. Rather, the "soul" is the entire person, identical with one’s physical body. It also believes that the "spirit" is the breath or "the life force that enables that person to be alive.

The spirit has no personality, nor can it do the things a person can do. It cannot think, speak, hear, see or feel." (Quoted from the 1968 Watchtower book THE TRUTH that leads to ETERNAL LIFE, page 39.)

With this Watchtower definition in mind, then what does it mean when the book states, "His heavenly Father resurrected him back to spirit life"? It means that the archangel Michael, who the Society claims willed himself out of existence when Jesus was conceived or born was re-created three days after the death of Jesus. Then he impersonated Jesus in a number of different bodies, including even the body with the nail and spear scars (John 20:27) that the Society teaches had already gone back to the elements—fooling everyone.

The Bible speaks in over one hundred places about the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Not once do we have the very words "a spirit" in connection with His resurrection, except when Jesus Himself denied that He was raised just as "a spirit" in Luke 24:37-40, so why does the Watchtower Society make it "a spiritual resurrection"?

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: If it is true that Michael willed himself out of existence, then how did he do it?

Since the Society teaches that Jesus was not both human and divine, and nothing from Michael was in Jesus, then did Michael still exist in heaven?

...If it is true that Michael willed himself out of existence, then how did he do it?

I know of only two possible ways.

    (1) The Father would have had to kill him. But this would not be a possibility because the Bible says, "The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23)" and since Michael was perfect and never sinned, the Father could not be just and kill Michael!

    (2) Michael would have had to kill himself by committing suicide! I don’t think this would be a possibility either because the Bible teaches that suicide is a sin.

Would you please help me solve this difficult problem?

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: When do survivors of Armageddon pay the wages for their personal sin?

    Breanne W:

How is this possible, can you please tell me as to what scripture you are referencing. I seem to be a bit confused, I was under the belief that the Watchtower Society teaches that personal sins are forgiven ONLY by the physical death of a person. So... do these witness survivors of Armageddon actually pay for their sins?! How is this possible?

  • Atheists: Irreducible complexity, do you buy it?

Darwin has been quoted as saying,

"It could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed, which could not possibly have been formed by numerous, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down."

Thereby defining irreducible complexity as the crux of his theory.

Now, at what point did an organism develop a mammary gland, for example? I mean, without it the offspring would die almost immediately. How could this type of gland develop slowly over time? If one time it didn't work, the organism died. I just really don't understand how to refute irreducible complexity issues. I've looked at Miller's refutes, and they don't hold much water.

"An irreducibly complex system cannot be produced directly (that is, by continuously improving the initial function, which continues to work by the same mechanism) by slight, successive modifications of a precursor system, because any precursor to an irreducibly complex system that is missing a part is by definition nonfunctional." • Jehovah's Witnesses: If Jesus was the first creation, who was with Jehovah before?`?

I'm guessing that you would have to say he was alone from time indefinite.

If God is Love (1 John 4:8) who did He love? Could He love? Love requires a beloved otherwise it's not Love, so if he was alone, how could this scripture remain accurate?

  • How do Jehovah's Witnesses address these two verses: Isaiah 9:6 and Isaiah 44:24?

    Isaiah 9:6 (New World Translation)

For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

So from what I understand here is that this child, namely Jesus, who would be called Mighty God and Eternal Father. Isn't there only one "mighty God" or "eternal Father?"

    Isaiah 44:24 (New World Translation)

This is what Jehovah has said, your Repurchaser and the Former of you from the belly: “I, Jehovah, am doing everything, stretching out the heavens by myself, laying out the earth. Who was with me?

Jehovah is addressing the issue of false idols in this passage and he asks the audience Who was with Him when He layed out the earth and made the heavens, because, He was by himself. Right?

In John it says Jesus created the earth. How can this be, when Jehovah claimed he was alone?

  • Is it Biblical for a monk to spend his life in a monastery studying?

My husband always throws this in my face, that the monks are more "religious" than I am, or in other words, are more finely tuned into the Bible than I am.

But, don't monks kind of ignore the great commission by locking themselves away? I don't mean this to be in any way disrespectful and to be honest I have no idea what the role or function of a monk is meant to serve.

  • Does it seem a little odd that there are more athiests in the R&S section than not?

It just seems to me that there is more non-religious and non-spiritual believers in this section.

Why do you think it appears that way? (Notice I used the word appear)

  • During the time of gladiators, how many people did not support the fighting games?

Were there any rescue attempts, if so, how many and how often did they occur?

How popular were these type of events in that time? Did the people of the time know it was wrong? or did they not know because it was so popularized by the government of that time?

My husband is using the times of the colosseum and gladiators to prove that "right" and "wrong" are dictated by the society you live during a specific time. So while today watching real people get eaten by lions or forcing them to fight to the death is wrong, back during the time of Spartacus, it was not wrong at all.

    *****Please site references!!! THANKS!!!!*****

  • My iphone has trapped me in the call mode and I can't get out!?

Right next to the batter life icon in the upper right corner of the phone there is a little telephone icon...

Anyways, the iphone is stuck on the call settings. I can select favorites, recents, contacts, keypad and voicemail. I can make and receive calls. But I can't exit and go to the main menu and I can't get the phone to turn off either. I looked up how to access the battery to simply remove it, but that honestly looks like more than I can handle to be sure.

Does anyone know what happened or how I can fix it?

  • Born Again Believers: Should you tell your unbelieving spouse of a past sin?

The sin is an inappropriate relationship with a past boyfriend. There was no physical interaction, but the relationship was not right.

How could this positively affect the relationship? Does God want the believing spouse to confess to the non-believer? Would it not be trusting in God to not confess?

Please make sure to include your scripture references.
