  • How much to charge for sending a horse on trial and lease to buy?

I have someone interested in my horse, but they want a trial. Her list price is $3,500 if that matters. How much would I charge per day and per week for the trial? The lady wants to do a lease to buy off property. How much should I charge for that?

  • What is the best protective vest?

I need a protective vest for everyday riding. I don't need it to be any special colors because I am not an event rider, but I do need something that will protect me very well. I am a hunter rider, so falling off into or onto fences is very possible. I need freedom of movement as much as possible and something that won't swallow me up. I would prefer not to spend more than $500. I know nothing about vests so if you could add any additional information that would be very helpful.

  • What color accessories?

I have red hair, pale skin, freckles, and hazel eyes. I am wearing a white dress (graduation) and I am unsure what color shoes and accessories I should purchase. Typically you would get nude shoes, but we are supposed to buy colored ones. I want my accessories to match my shoes. Any suggestions?

  • What do you think of this exercise?

I have jump 4 sets of jump cups that hold the rail 6 inches off the ground. I was thinking of using those at cavaletti for the canter, but am unsure what the distance would be, it would be the same for a bounce distance. That would be set up on one side of the arena, and on the other side, I would trot in over a cross rail then 3 strides strides to a vertical and a stride to a cross rail.

What do you think? Do you have any concerns or anything you would add, takeaway, move, or change?

    Thanks!

  • Where to free jump my pony?

I have an indoor and two out door arenas available. The indoor has the stalls around it, as we do eventing. The two outdoors are huge, but my pony (14.2 hh) has jumped the fence once when I was free lunging. I know if she is in the jump shoot she can't turn and jump out, but at the end of the shoot she could. Any suggestions? Could I just have someone catch her at the end and then walk her over to me, or use the indoor if no one is there?

  • What makeup should I buy?

I have red curly hair, big brown eyes, medium/small lips, pale skin, freckles, and long eye lashes. I am going to buy new makeup, but don't know what to buy. I'm only in 8th grade, so I want more of a natural look. My skin is very sensitive, and I would like the makeup to have spf. I don't have oily or dry skin, but I do have a little bit of acne on my nose. I need eyeshadow, lip stick/gloss/stain/balm, mascara, powder/foundation/concealer, eyeliner, blush, bronzer, and brushes for everything. I need to know what shades would look best, good brands, bad brands, etc. etc. Also any tips would be very helpful. Thanks!

  • End of the school year party?

We will freshman's the next year, and I want to have an amazing party. Should I make a play list or hire a DJ? What decorations, food, drinks, games, etc. should I have/play/do? We will be outside most of the night, and might have some people sleep over, but it will be mostly outside swimming, hanging out, etc. There will be around 55 kids if everyone comes, but I am guessing more like 45~50 kids. Everyone loves to dance, party, and have a good time. It will start around 4~6 (undecided) until whenever everyone goes home. I want to have paper lanterns for lighting, and have a really cool mood. I was thinking about getting a huge trampoline too.

I don't want to break the bank, but have some room to play with.

    Thanks!!

  • What to do when someone is looking at your horse for sale?

A lady and her 10 year old daughter are coming out to ride my pony. I am going to have all my tack ready when they come. First I am going to bring out the pony and put her in the cross ties. The girl is going to help me brush her off and clean her off. Then I am going to tack her up. Should she help, or not? Then I am going to lunge the pony for about 5~10 minutes. I will ride first to warm her up and jump a few small things from cross rails to about 2'3". When she gets on I plan on letting her mom and trainer tell her what to do and I will just give her a few tips as needed. When we go to untack, brush, and put the pony away, should the girl do it, or should I still do it? I will have my trainer with me just to help out.

  • Equation over fences and on the flat?

How can I work on my EQ? My main problems are tilting forward, my legs move a little bit, my toes point out a little bit too far, my legs are solid but I want to make them as best as possible. What do judges look for in over fence classes? What do they look for in flat classes? Should you try to make your horse look good too by bending, etc., or should you just focus on yourself? Thanks!

  • How to get into shape before spring?

I want flat abs and toned arms and legs. I have access to a treadmill with varying speed and inclines, and weights from 3 to 25 pounds. I also have an ab machine with weights. I have until March.

Also, what foods are good to eat. I will eat most anything, but need larger meals, because I can't eat snacks, only breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

    Thanks

  • What color tack, and eventing questions?

I am looking at horses for sale, and I have found a bay, chestnut, and 2 greys. Currently I have very light colored tack. Something like the saddle in the top left corner:

    http://www.stubbennorthamerica.com/stubbenjumpings...

I think it would look fine on the chestnut and grey, but what about the bay? Both bays a very dark, not black, but dark. Should I just not worry about it or sell the tack, and get a better matching color. I do hunters and EQ.

I was thinking about starting eventing. Do I need separate tack for eventing? If so, what do I need. Right now I have almost that same saddle in the link, and leather everything else. What are the basics of eventing?

    Thanks.

  • What accessories should I get?

    Here is the dress:

    http://www.renttherunway.com/shop/designers/thread...

I have red curly hair, pale skin, freckles, I am about 5'5" and 100 lbs.

I need earrings, bracelet/cuff, necklace, and heels. I'm thinking blue/teal for my color, but not sure. If you don't think I need all of those things, feel free to say so. Any suggestions? I have a limited budget, so I can't go out and buy an $1,000 necklace.

  • How much would you pay for board?

There are two barns, barn A and barn B. Which one would you go to, and how much would you say board is?

    Barn A

This barn has one trainer that graduated from Merideth Manor as a hunter, english pleasure, and western pleasure trainer. She is in her late 20s early 30s, and has been riding since she was 10. She showed on the local level and did pretty well. Her students do show in IEA and in local shows, and place either 1st through 3rd, or not at all. The barn has 50 or more stalls, and one person to feed, muck, water, etc. The arena is small, and you can only fit a 3 stride line on either side with 1 stride after and before the corner. The outside arena is the same size as the indoor. Despite having small arenas, they have nice 13x13 stalls, 2 main isle ways with 3 cross ties each, and one large tack room. The stalls that aren't connected to the arena are 12x12 and outside. They aren't as new, but about the same as all of Barn B's stalls. They have 2 trails both of which take about 20 minutes to get through. They have lessons, boarding, leasing, summer camps, etc.

    Barn B

Barn B has 2 trainers, one is very well known in the hunter/jumper/eventing ring. The other one is known locally, and they also have an on site trainer who helps train, ride, school, etc horses and ponies, and continues to compete. All three of them have shown successfully and made a name for themselves. This barn competes in a joint IEA team, has their own schooling show series, and competes at MHJA and USEF recognized shows, as well as other rated shows. The students come away with 1st through 3rd in every show. They have 4 people to tend to 30 horses. The stalls are around the arena, which is huge, about 220x300. They have 4 tacking up stalls off the arena, and 4 large locked tack rooms. The facilities aren't as new as Barn A, but they are the same in every other way. They also have 2 outdoor arenas that are 300x400 and all arenas have full hunter course jumps. Barn B has 180 acres of trails, and 2 field right behind the barn separated by a small creek used for schooling, eventing, and hunter derbies. They have lessons, boarding, leasing, summer camps, etc.

Which on sounds better, and what would you pay for board for each?

  • Thoughts on breeds for hunters?

I have been doing hunters for about 2 years, and have been jumping 3 foot. I do compete, and have seen almost all TBs and Warmbloods. I was looking at a solid paint and a quarter horse. I really don't think I want either of those breeds, as I HATE how they run their breed shows, and also, I feel like they are looked down upon at horse shows.

  • Can you use...in shows? (20 characters)?

In EQ classes I know you can use white polos, but can you use splint boots or sports medicine boots that are white? In smaller shows such as schooling or local unrated shows, can you use polos or boots? Can you use bell boots? If you can use any of these, what color should they be?

    Thanks!

  • Best way to release over fences?

When jumping I have a habit of keeping my hands where they are instead of moving my hands up the horses neck. I do ride with a lose rein, so I don't pull on the horses mouth. How can I break this habit? I jump every week, about 3 days a week. I am jumping 2'3" to about 2'9" if that matters.

    Thanks!!

  • Why do some judges..?

At shows, it seems that judges hate paints and appys that are horses, but if a cute paint or appy pony walks in, then its a completely different story.

I've only seen this happy at bigger shows. I have a grey TB, another girl had a paint, and the other an appy. We frequently compete with each other. I had a horrible round, and the other girls were really good. The judge placed me 1st in every class. When the appy or paint entered it looked like she had something sour in her mouth. My TB is grey, more of a solid grey than dappled. This isn't the only time this has happened. Is there a reason?

Also, does every judge have favorites? I know some judges dislike one thing or another, but it seems like every judge does. A girl at a show had a few bad rounds, which is very unlike her, but managed to place above me, and my trainer said that was the best round i've had on my horse in a while. The show the next day, I did really well, and so did she, but she placed above me. Her horse does have to rush the lines being only 15.2, and mine doesn't being 16.2. Also, she knocked jumps, but they didn't fall. Did the judge just have a favorite or what?

  • What is the best way to handle someone trying your horse for sale?

A girl around 8~12 years old is coming to try my pony. My pony is very easy, push button type. The girl is going to be jumping, and will be doing flat work. I will have a more experienced trainer with me just to help me, but I still need to know a few basics. I am obviously going to let her tack up, and should I ride first, second, or not at all? I am going to basically give her a lesson but I don't give lessons. HELP!
