Font tool in photoshop bunches up text when you hit "return"?
This is a recent development, and I don't know what I have done wrong. If I select the text tool, then select say...a font size of 72 (bigger sizes, I mean) then type a line, and hit "return", instead of starting a new line in a spacing that is relative to the size of the font, it only goes down about 10pt, and starts the new line there. So my second line of 72 point font is overlapping my first line. Does that make sense? See photo below:
1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoHow can I prevent people from seeing comments I make on other people's facebook profiles?
This seems to be a new development in Facebook's antics. Let's say that I have Jack and Jill as friends. Jack does not know Jill, and they are not each other's "friends" on facebook. Let's say Jack posts a status about a football game, and I make a comment on it. Then, two minutes later, Jill clicks the comment I made as a comment she "likes". How can Jill see the comment I made on someone's wall who isn't even a friend of hers?
Now, you might say, why do you care what Jill sees? Are you keeping secrets from her that only you and Jack know about? Perhaps; what if I want to buy Jill a birthday present and I ask Jack if she would like a new pair of sunglasses? Yes, I know I could PM Jack about it, but is there a way to make comments I make on other's walls private except to people THEY are friends with?
3 AnswersFacebook1 decade agoIs it possible to have seizures but not have Epilepsy? (read on)?
Okay first, my wife has epilepsy. So did a close friend of mine in college. I know what epilepsy is, and how it is treated through medication and what happens if the person goes off their meds. My question is about me. I do not have epilepsy, but I have had four seizures in my lifetime; each time it was while doing something completely different. Once while I was giving blood, once when I hit my "funny bone" on a door frame, once when I got a bad paper cut, and once when I was on a roller coaster.
Now, I have had my share of paper cuts in my life, I love roller coasters and ride them whenever I can, I have hit my elbow more times than I can count, and give blood regularly through the Red Cross. Those seizure incidents only happened once each time, so this is not a pattern brought on by outside stimuli.
if I had only had one seizure in my life, or if I had one every time I gave blood or rode a roller coaster, I might be able to put a label on this. Also, since I am not on meds for epilepsy, it would sem that if I did have epilepsy, I would be experiencing regular seizure activity, probably at least once a week or even once a month...but I am 38 and have only had for over the course of my life.
Could I have epilepsy, or can you have seizures without the condition? All four times, I do remember what it was like during the seizure. My vision went blank, my body felt cold, and I had a dream where everything around me was blurry and sounds were muted. When I came out of the seizure, I was usually on the floor shaking. The only time I wasn't alone was when I hit my elbow, and the person who pulled me up off the floor said I was spasming like a cat who had been hit by a car.
That was the last one I had, and it was fourteen years ago. Could I have REALLY sparse epilepsy? *laughs*
2 AnswersOther - Diseases1 decade agoCeiling fan slowed to a stop, then reversed?!?
Okay just bought a new ceiling fan. Nice big one, too! Not a cheapo, either! Followed assembly and installation instructions to a "T". Turned it on, and it ran like a jewel! Quiet, full air circulation, and all three speeds worked great!
Then, about an hour ago, I was sitting under the fan, and it started slowing down. Finally, it just came to a complete stop, then it REVERSED! It began going to opposite direction, only much slower than it had before. I flipped the directional switch the other way, and it gradually went back the way it had before, only SUPER slow now. The motor is humming away, but the fan is making one revolution per second.
Is the thing haunted? (kidding of course) But really is this a common thing? What could be causing this? A bad fan? Bad electrical? Why would it reverse on it's own?
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoDoes anyone know of a technique in Photoshop to correct the color of "Transitions" eyeglass lenses?
I am shooting wedding photos tomorrow, and the courtyard outside the church is so much prettier than in interior of the building. I want to take pics of the bride and groom outside, but the groom wears "Transitions Lenses" in his glasses. When he goes outside the lenses turn lavender in color, then almost purple when viewing them from the front. He cannot go without them, and the frames are so trim in style that cutting and pasting eyes from a pic where he is not wearing them would be very tricky.
Does anybody have any ideas or tips for dealing with this inside of Photoshop?
3 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoWhy is the tub (drum) in our washing machine lopsided?
We just inherited a washing machine (free, so we can't complain too much) that is giving us an annoying problem. It was banging around all over the place on spin cycle, so just to test it I ran a small load with no clothing inside. When the washer spun out, once again, bang-bang-bang-bang...
The root of the problem is the tub/drum inside always sits off to the right, as if the washer was leaning. It's not though, only the tub is leaning. If I push it back to the center, it slowly leans back over to the right. Because of this, when a load is spinning, no matter how balanced the load is, the tub is not, so bang-bang-bang....etc.
What can be causing this? The washer runs very quietly and cleanly...except on SPIN!
1 AnswerMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhy will Facebook Mobile not work on my Blackberry?
Okay, here is the situation. I recently upgraded to a better cell phone. My old phone worked fine with Facebook Mobile, and I could send and receive updates with ease. My old cell liked to lock up at random times though, hence my new phone...a Blackberry 8900.
When I got the Blackberry, I swapped my T-Mobile SIM card out with my old phone, and everything seemed to be working fine. The phone works great, and all my texts from friends still come to me with no problem, and my old cell number now works on my Blackberry, just as it should. Facebook Mobile, however is a different story. I have verified that Mobile is still turned on and active, even requested FB send me another activation message to my Blackberry, which I got with no problem. I can also update my status from my phone, just like always. However, none of my notification RECEIVED by me go to my phone.
Just to clarify, yes my Facebook Mobile IS turned on and active, and set up just like I had it before. If it weren't, I couldn't SEND anything from my phone and have it work. It is only my RECEIVED messages I am not getting...and that makes no sense. I have it set up to receive any new updates from my friends, and I have gotten NOTHING since. Can anyone suggest something I may not have tried?
2 AnswersFacebook1 decade agoThe LCD on my handheld GPS is fading; what can I do?
I have a Magellan Explorist GPS, and I accidentally left it on the dash of my car for an hour in the sun. Now when I turn it on, the numbers are still nice and clear, but the graduated grays are gone. I have black and white, no grays. Any way to fix it? Maybe put it in the freezer for an hour? *laughs*
5 AnswersOther - Electronics1 decade agoCan someone give me ideas for a two-person photography project?
I am looking for an idea for a project for two amateur photography students. The goal is to have them work together as much as possible, even when they are apart. (by text, email, etc.) If I give them assignments that have any chance of being done alone, they will find a way to do it. There must be no choice but for them to work as a team to get it done. Any ideas folks? I am open to anything, as long as it's student-friendly and not risque.
5 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoNikon F4 Shutter Sticking?
A received from a friend today who was thinning his camera collection a Nikon F4s. He said he hadn't used it in over a year, and since it was a freebie, I can't really complain. But, here is the issue:
After buying a roll of film, I loaded the roll and shot away, mostly on full-auto in bright sun. After taking the film in for processing, and getting it back, I noticed that the film was only being exposed from about the bottom 1/4th down. Everything above that point was just empty.
I unmounted the lens, and looked into the mirror box as I fired off a few shots. Sure enough, the shutter is only opening about 1/8th of the way. Every once in a while, it will open ALL the way and stay open with the mirror up, and sluggishly close after about 1/2 of a second.
What gives with this thing? Is this a major repair, or just a little lube needed between two parts? Does it just need more exercise?
Thoughts, guys?
3 AnswersCameras1 decade agoCan I mount a ceiling fan in an outside garage using a heavy duty extension cord?
I want to run a ceiling fan to my garage. The garage is not connected to my house, and has no internal wiring. When I need to use a light in my garage, I run a heavy duty (orange) extension cord and use a hanging light that plugs into it. My question is, is it possible to mount a ceiling fan to the roof by way of using another extension cord.
The wiring on the fan has a hot, a neutral, and a ground. (black, white, and blue) and the orange extension cord has those three as well (black, white, and green). Can I simply splice, use wiring caps, mount it to the ceiling and plug it in? If not, why not?
6 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoNeed a manual (or just help) for a Marie Osmond EM1 Embroidery Machine. Help?
From what I can tell, it was made by Bernina, but I can't find any information regarding support or a manual for it. I got one used from an estate sale, and my daughter wants to use it. It has no cards to go with it, but I don't want to buy any if I don't know how it works!
Any help? can I download the manual somewhere? I already checked Bernina's website. No joy.
2 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoCan someone help me identify this old glass bottle?
I found it walking in the woods. It know it's probably not valuable or antique, but it's interesting. I took a picture of the bottom also so you can see the markings. The top and bottom of the sides have a "barrel" type embossing with a smooth part between them...maybe for a label?

Any help? Thanks!
2 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoStrange noise coming from front right side of 91 Corolla?
The sound occurs more when I have someone in the passenger seat than when I am alone in the car. When turning out of a parking lot, or when going over little "dips" in the road, there is a noise coming from the front passenger side that sounds like a small part hitting the frame off the car...like a hard rubber hammer tapping the frame on that side.
The CV axles are new...just replaced them last month. This noise has been present for over a year now. The best way I can compare it is like when you bounce on a bed---the box springs will make creaking and metallic "PANG" noises as you move around.
Does that make sense?
Also, I just replaced the struts on all four wheels, but the car still sags when more than one adult is riding it it. What gives?
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhy does the stick shift on my car move by itself when I tap the gas?
It only happens in 5th gear. My car is an early 90's toyota corolla. Every other gear, when I hold the shift knob and tap the gas as I am going down the road, I can't feel anything abnormal, and the shifter feels secure in it's gear's seating. With 5th, the shifter is not as secure, and when I tap the accelerator as I am riding down the highway, the shifter bumps back and forth slightly; and if I hold the knob while I am doing this, I can feel the vibration of the engine (or transmission?) through the stick itself.
Am I about to lose 5th gear?
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoHow do Hornworms get on your tomato plants?
We have four potted tomato plants on our porch, and our porch is two stories above the ground. Yesterday, I picked 15 hornworms off our tomato plants, and today, I found four more! One of the plants has no leaves left, only the stalk and green fruit. Is this plant toast now?
Also, how are the worms getting on our plants since they are two stories off the ground? I don't see of the little buggers crawling up the side of our white house or porch support columns, either.
The soil in the pots is miracle grow potting mix...did they grow in there? How can I get rid of these things?
5 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoWhy is ONE of my tomato plants wilting and turning yellow?
We planted six tomato plants in large pots on our patio in Black Kow. All are doing very well, except for one which has turned completely yellow and has stopped growing...actually it is wilting. We have watered when we needed to, and used Miracle Gro.
What could be up with our one patient?
3 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoHow can we safely and effectively kill ALL the grass and weeds over our entire lawn?
The house we just moved into has a front and back yard that consists of 80-90% weeds (thistles, clover, dandelion, ragweed) and only about 10% real grass. The real grass that is there is Bahia, which I hate, and so that negates it's presence as well.
I want to just kill EVERYTHING, have nothing grow back for the hot summer months, and start over again this fall or early spring of next year. Right now, I have a quart bottle of concentrated "Killz-All" herbicide, but I don't fancy walking all over our half acre yard with a little pump sprayer hoping that will work.
What is my best option for doing this? I literally do not care if ANYTHING grows in our yard for the next six months or more. At the very least, I want to kill everything that's here now...dead...DEAD!
The best quote I got from a pro was $1000 to kill the grass front and back, but if I can do it myself and save some money, I'd love to know how!
Ideas?
8 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoHow big of a problem are carpenter ants in the short-term?
We just moved into a rental house that we will be using for only one year. (Next year we'll be moving to another city, that's why we chose to rent.) We've been here for about two months, and we noticed a gnawing sound coming from one of the back bedroom walls. It's not a rodent, as thumping on the walls by us didn't make the chewing stop or even pause for a moment. Th sound is always coming from the same 1-foot square area, so we are guessing carpenter ants.
We called the landlord to warn them, but they didn't sound too concerned about the problem. "We'll get around to it..." was the response. That was two weeks ago. Yes, we could make as stink, but we are only going to be here for a year, so....
I am just wondering if this is a carpenter ant (or a termite) issue, will this be something we need to worry about being that we are only here for another ten months?
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoHow can we remove Vista and replace it with XP home?
Our friend bought a new laptop, and it came with Vista installed, along with restore CD's. I'm a Mac person, and can't figure out why he didn't buy the right OS, but oh well.
Anyway, he hates Vista. He misses using XP, and so he is considering buying an XP home disc and erasing Vista and replacing it with XP. Before he tries that, he wants to know if his computer is going to let him do that.
Will it work? If so, what steps does he need to take? Any programs he will need outside of the new XP disk?
