  • UK Law: Who would be liable for injuries to a trespasser?

Our situation: my mum has a small farm. There is no public access or right of way through the farm, no footpaths on the land at all and all gates are kept locked to deter people entering the premises, we also have signs advising not to touch the animals. For many years we have had problems with trespassers climbing the fence (causing damage in the process) to urinate and defecate in one of our fields next to the road, this is particularly frequent when the local marathon is in progress and also builders or tradesmen when they are working nearby. We have an aggressive male sheep in the field at the moment and worry that someone may get hurt by him (he could easily break a few bones). If a trespasser were to get hurt, would my mum be liable for any injury caused?

  • Who enforces parking/traffic issues around Greenwich Peninsula/O2 Arena in London?

I'm looking for some advice, I was in the area last night after dropping off some family at the O2, I am not familiar with the area and there was a lot of traffic and I got a bit flustered and somehow ended up travelling up a bus-only road called "West Parkside" or "Pilot Busway" I think it is also known as. When I realised my mistake I couldn't see an easy way to exit the road and had to stay on it for a considerable stretch. I saw some traffic cameras, and a number of buses and think I might get a ticket for driving my car along the bus road. Can anyone tell me which company would enforce these things in the area? I would like to contact the company to explain the situation and hopefully avoid a penalty fine if I can.

  • CSS Padding Problem?

    Hello

I am trying to use CSS on a page, I would like to pad only the left side but when I use 'padding-left: 0.5em;' it has no effect, but if I use 'padding: 0.5em;' it works fine but applies the padding to all sides. How can apply padding just to the left side?

I am working on this page and I'm targeting div.date and div.author with the padding: http://www.horshammanandvan.com/testimonials/

  • UK: Health & Safety laws regarding lighting of communal stairways?

I m looking for any legislation that requires a landlord to provide working lighting of stairways in a block of flats. My mother lives in such a block of flats and the lights on the communal stairway have not been working for over a month now causing a danger to residents who are mostly elderly and unsteady on their feet. The landlord has been contacted many times, has promised to sort it out but a month later they still have not done so and we are looking to take further action. Does anyone know of any legislation such as Health & Safety that could help our case?

  • UK Electrical laws, what is a consumer legally allowed to do without being qualified?

I would like to know once and for all what electrical work can be undertaken by a non-qualified consumer, assuming they are competent and skilled to undertake such a task.

I would specifically like to know if I am allowed to change (like for like) accessories such as light switches, sockets, light fittings on an existing circuit. I do not need to change or modify the circuit or wiring at all, I just want to know if I am legally allowed to change such accessories without being 17th Edition or otherwise qualified. Also, does such very minor work require testing, certification or notification to building control?

Please provide references to relevent laws or regulations with your answer. Thanks

  • What is the physical difference between antennas for different frequencies?

I m specifically interested in 4G/LTE frequencies (800MHz, 1800MHz, 2600MHz) but I guess this would apply to all kinds of RF.

Say for example, an antenna is designed for 800MHz reception, how does the physical design/construction of it differ from one that is designed for 1800MHz?

  • Is a gas space heater suitable for household use?

We have just moved into a rented flat with poor insulation and it gets very cold and it only has electric heating which costs a fortune to run. In terms of fumes etc, is a space heater (commonly used in workshops) suitable for household use? They run from a gas bottle and heat a room up very fast and I ve used them in a workshop before but not sure how much carbon monoxide or fumes they put out so don t know if it s suitable for household use.

  • Which movie had a edited pirate copy circulating where director showed their penis?

A few months ago there was a highly anticipated movie released, and the first copy that appeared on download sites showed like half the movie, then cut to a video of the director masturbating or something. This was intended as an anti-piracy measure to annoy people who downloaded it illegally. Does anyone know which movie this was or have a link to a news article about it?

  • App to find/replace text in CSV file automatically?

I need to find some software, preferably one that can be automated.

I have got a CSV file that I need to modify some data within. I need to search and replace certain text automatically.

Ideally, I need an app that will run in the background and monitor when the file is updated and then run the find/replace and save the output file to a separate folder.

Does an app like this exist? Or if not, one that can just do the find/replace from a command line or similar which I could automate myself.

  • Which vehicles can be driven in the UK on a provisional/motorbike license?

When I say vehicles, I mean 4 wheel vehicles that can legally be driven in the UK (England specifically) without having to take a full driving test. In the same way as a Reliant Robin could be driven on a motorcycle license..

Many years ago I remember seeing some 4 wheeled buggies for sale at a country fair that anyone over the age of 16 could drive on the road but I can't find anything similar to it online any more (not ones that are road legal anyway)

    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Recurring extremely painful throat infections?

For the last 4 years in a row, once a year, I get an extremely painful sore throat which sometimes coincides with a high fever, this time up to 101F, normally it's in the winter months but this time in the spring. This is no ordinary sore throat either, it eventually prevents me from eating, drinking and sleeping. Over the counter painkillers are about as useless as my GP as well. Every time it happens I have been to my GP, seen different doctors, all say the same thing that "it's just a bug and will go on it's own" and refuse to give me any treatment or painkillers. I feel that if it is preventing me from eating or drinking then it's pretty serious. The first year it happened I was unable to sleep for 72 hours, I had had enough, I'm ashamed to say I was a grown man in tears due to the excruciating pain, I went to A&E, they confirmed it was an infection and gave me some Tramadol painkillers which were like a dream, I could finally sleep again, and some antibiotics that cleared it up fairly quick. Every time I have ended up going to A&E to get the treatment that my GP refuses to give. I'm 25 years old now and had my tonsils removed at a young age (3 or 4 yrs old) due to constant tonsillitis as a child. I'm now living on my 10 month old son's baby food as it's the only thing I can bear to swallow. My throat looks normal to me, no spots or redness out of the ordinary when this happens. Can anyone possibly suggest what may be causing these infections every year?

  • Bulk photo resizing 'best fit' to dimensions?

I have got a bunch of photos, the orientation and size varies. I need to resize all of them while maintaining their aspect ratio. So I need a software that will let me set a maximum width and height, but will keep the aspect ratio the same while 'best-fitting' to those maximum sizes.

Hopefully you can understand what I am trying to achieve, it will resize all images to best-fit my maximum dimensions while maintaining the aspect ratio.

    'Harvester' Bread Roll Recipe?

I'm specifically talking about the Harvester restaurant chain in the UK, they have some lovely bread rolls on their salad bar and I'm wondering if anyone knows a recipe to make rolls just like them? They have a hard, but not crispy crust which is nice. They look like 'Kaiser rolls' but I haven't tried those so not sure if they are the same.

  • Excruciating pain on sides of throat after standing up?

I was just sitting down for about half an hour and when I stood up I got a very sudden unbearable achy pain on both sides of my throat (from looking at a diagram, it feels like where the the thyroid glands are), the achy pain quickly spread to my ears and head with earache and headache. It is very slowly subsiding and it has currently been about 10 minutes since it happened, and it's nearly gone now.

Does anyone know what could be the cause of something like this? Should I be worried? I'm otherwise healthy despite being a bit overweight, I haven't recently had any colds or any other illnesses.
