How do teaching certificates work?
In the fall I am attending a university with the hopes of coming out with a degree in education. I love music and would love to go into music education. Since I know it is hard to decide to teach music later (because it requires more classes) I think that going for a BM in Music Education is the way to go. However, I understand that in our job market I am in no way gaurenteed a job. So as I was trying to figure out the best way to go about being certified in music education yet still marketable in case things don t go favorably, I realized that I may be able to minor in another subject that I am particularly fond of, such as biology. I do not understand how teaching certificates work, though. If I have the education degree from music education and a minor in biology, could I be certified to teach biology? Or would that take a lot of extra schooling? Currently I am admitted and enrolled with two majors, a BA in music and a BS of Secondary education, but I eventually have to pick a concentration and in the long run I know this is not feasible.
Higher Education (University +)4 years agoWhat is the cheapest way to own a smartphone?
As a senior in high school going off to college in the fall, I have decided I want to buy my own smartphone. Up to this point, my parents have not allowed me to own my own phone, since they do not want to be sucked into a plan. So, I have owned a tracphone and an iPod to use. Unfortunately, this causes a bit of a cluster constantly going back and forth between two devices email on one texting on another and so forth. That being said, now that I have a job and can afford to make payments, I want to buy my own. However, as someone who has relied on wifi for my entire time using electronics basically, I don t foresee the need for a lot of data, yet phone companies want to charge outrageous rates for data that I know I won t use. I just want a device that I can text on without needing wifi, yet can still have the rest of my data in one place. I m looking to get an iPhone 6 or later. Any suggestions on plans and how to do this for a lower cost? Open to any advice thanks!
3 AnswersCell Phones & Plans4 years agoA degree in eduction?
I am planning on attending college next fall and have began applying. Unfortunately, however, I am completely undecided on my major and my parents will not allow me to go undecided. I do want to go into education, but specifically music education, and that seems like its not an option currently. As an education major, would I be able to teach more than one subject (for example, could I possibly get a music or spanish teacher certification even if I go for english education). I really love music and my music teachers are very encouraging. Unfortunately my parents are not, but I do understand where theyre coming from so I m just trying to figure out my options. Thanks
1 AnswerTeaching5 years agoWhere to buy custom woodwind gig bags?
As an aspiring musician, I ve been given many opportunities over the last two years to perform in various ensembles with my primary instrument, the clarinet. Now as a high school senior who will be pursuing a music degree in a year, I have learned the most of the instruments in the woodwind family (except bassoon), and have been hired for several gigs in the next few months that I will be doubling in. I ve found several places that sell gig bags, but am unsure of where I should order from. At this point in time I m looking for a backpack style bag for alto sax, clarinet, and flute.
1 AnswerPerforming Arts5 years agoDo I have gastrointestinal parasites?
For the last several months I have had many gastrointestinal issues. With no clear cause I continued to suffer through the pain, telling myself it would clear up eventually. My symptoms include: fatigue, restless sleep, itching in bed at night (legs, especially), constant burning in my stomach, feeling hungry even after a large meal, bloating (has never ever happened to me before), coughing after eating, gas, and as of today, constipation. My period is also late, but it is very VERY unlikely that I am pregnant. Not sure if parasites could cause this. This might sound farfetched, but after nothing else gave me a clear idea, my friend mentioned parasites. I vaguely remember seeing something off in my stool the other day, then dismissed it. Now I am extremely constipated and have not been able to pass a stool in two or three days to reexamine.
1 AnswerInfectious Diseases5 years agoAm I pregnant?
On the second to last day of my last period I had oral sex with a guy and he fingered me. There was no actual intercourse. No ejaculation had occurred while he was fingering me, and I don't even think he touched his penis the whole time that we were "in the mood". Now, my period is 6 days late and I am exhibiting symptoms that were never previously included in my PMS, such as bloating and nausea. I am very stressed aboht this so that may have an impact, still very worried.
1 AnswerPregnancy5 years agoIs pregnancy a possibility?
Recently I ve been dealing with very irregular symptoms concerning my overall health and menstruation. My period (due around July 2) came 8 days earlier than it should have, with no warning. I experienced VERY light bleeding, no cramps or any PMS whatsoever. I spotted on and off for 6 days, then it ended. A week later and I begin bleeding again. The bleeding is just as light, and again there are no other symptoms. At the very end of this last "period" (about a week and a half ago) I screwed around with a guy. There was no intercourse, and no noticeable *** or pre-***, but his fingers did enter my vagina. I feel as though it is extremely unlikely, but is there any way that this bleeding could be implantation bleeding? Prior to this, my periods have been regular, and I have not had sex. Not really sure what s going on with my body, however. I have been eating slightly junky lately, and been a bit stressed, but nothing different than anything I ve dealt with before. Any thoughts are appreciated!!
1 AnswerWomen's Health5 years agoWhat is the chance I'm pregnant?
A couple weeks ago I was fooling around with a guy... Before some of you start judging, know that I understand it was stupid, and will not take part in it for a LONG time. He and I were fooling around a bit and some sticky clear stuff came out of his penis and it was his first time doing anything so he cleaned the very tiny amount (a little blob, about the size as the white part of a finger nail, very small amount) and he rubbed it on his pants. About five minutes later, his finger entered my vagina, without me thinking about what he did before. There was no intercourse at all, but I'm so worried about his finger and even that small amount. My period is supposed to come tomorrow, but I have absolutely no symptoms. I haven't had any yet, no cramps, spotty bleeding, nausea, headaches, sensitive breasts, nothing. I just started a sport and have been stressed so I feel as if that may be playing a part but the fact I still have no PMS symptoms makes me very nervous. Again, I know it was a mistake but now I'm worried beyond belief. The guy was very small, no pubic hair, barely changed voice, and a smaller penis, if that means anything. Do you think I'm pregnant?
2 AnswersWomen's Health7 years agoHow to efficiently practice with the clarinet?
I have been playing clarinet for 5 years now. The last two or three years I really got into it and decided I wanted to make a career out of it. I am a freshman in high school. I've been given high parts throughout marching band, and even solos. Lately, I've noticed while playing Concerto for Clarinet, I am not improving. I had to learn a section of the song (b flat) and I have played it through time and time again. It does not sound correct though, and despite my constant practicing, my mistakes are fixed one day and made again the next. Today I got second clarinet for a high school part. I have gone from the little freshman, to a fairly okay freshman clarinet player but I feel my practicing is stopping me from improving and thus I am being moved down which has made me quite upset. If anyone can help let me know please
1 AnswerOther - Entertainment8 years agoResume help for someone with no experience?
I have noticed today that one of our local (okay, its about 20 minutes away) reptile zoos is allowing volunteers and internships. In the description it says about how you gain experience from an AZA accredited zoo. So I love animals, especially reptile and amphibians, so I was thinking about volunteering. As I was thinking, I do not have any sort of experience at all, and am only 14. So first I will get more information, as in if they help train you or anything. Or if theyll even take me. But on the off chance that I am able to work there, it says I need a resume, just for volunteering. But I am a bit confused with this whole résumé thing. So I don't have any experience and I'm not going to lie and tell them I do. I own a reptile, but thats nothing compared to taking care of one at a zoo. I'm a straight A student with a GPA of 99.75. I'm part of the NJHS. I am responsible(or at least I feel like I am) and would really like to volunteer as I'd really like to go to college for zoology and become a herpetologist. I'm making a visit with my family next week and am planning on inquiring there. But can anyone help me with what I should include in my résumé, or even how its set up? Thanks!
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment8 years agoMy jaw won't open all the way?
This has been on and off for a while now. At least since about Christmas. Then, it was just like it is today, and then it went away for a while and came back. In between I had a bit of a hard time with mouth gaurds. After I put it in and played a game or two, it would open up so far and if I opened it by itself, it would make a loud clicking noise In front of my right ear. Because I did not like this noise(there was never any pain with it) I ususally resorted to pushing in a little bit when I needed to open my jaw that far(eating) and by the end of the day that I had worn my mouth gaurd, it was gone. So here it is, July 4th weekend(okay, a little late) and I haven't played hockey in two weeks. And my jaw started doing this again. It opens only so far, but is now accompanied by pain especially when I chew. Chewing is a nightmare now! I did, however, find out that after eating for a long period of time, it resolves itself rather well. It never stops clicking though, no matter if I push down or not. But this is my jaw and I would like to take care of it, especially as its been this bothersome lately. When I told my mom, she told me its probably just growing, she had it before. But others I've talked to gave me the short answer-sounds like TMJ. Can anyone clarify? I will be attending my physical for sports at the end of the month and will be mentioning this to them. Thanks so much in advance! becca
1 AnswerPain & Pain Management8 years agoTurtle laying eggs?! Emergency!?
My turtle is a RES. About a month ago my turtle layed 7 eggs. She hadnt layed any for a few weeks so we assumed she was done. We have a large setup with water on one side and dirt in the other. She layed them on the dirt side but they are long gone as they aren't fertile. Most came out broken, but all the pieces came out. So now a month later she layed an egg. The next day two, and today I noticed one in her butt. Its been there for 4 or more hours and has not nudged. It is not far enough for our assistance. She has since gone swimming and has eaten and is now basking on her log. Shes acting as if nothing is wrong, but I feel as if she is being very strained. Is this something that will pass on its own or not? Please help. My turtle is 9 now. Thanks!
1 AnswerReptiles8 years agoHermit Crab handling?
I have been a hermit crab owner for just under a week. As of now I have 1, just until I get used to the little thing. I love my hermit crab to death already and cannot wait until I get my second. I do, however, have a question about handling. I read several different things about handling and have resorted to picking her up by her shell. I have read things about them pinching you when you do this, and granted mine doesn't not tuck herself away, but she has never made a motion to pinch. I have not yet let her on my hand, because I'm still a bit nervous about being pinched... But, my question is, is that an okay way to pick her up? Any other advice/websites just on overall care are extremely helpful! Thanks.
5 AnswersOther - Pets8 years agoRed Eared Slider Egg laying? Possible emergency!?
I've had my red eared slider for 8 years this June. When I first got " him" and notice I said him, the seller told me he was around a year old, just over the legal size. For almost 8 years I've called him Shelden, and last night between 10PM and 7AM, he layed eggs! I believed he was a she for around a year due to claw size(I did my research) but I did not expect eggs, as there is no male present. We found the broken pieces of 2 eggs. After reading up, I have learned that there is a possiblity of more thats shes just holding in. In the tank there is dry land, but no digging area, I know I should be ashamed not setting up the correct habitat, but she has the right lighting along with a large aquarium and basking area. But anyways, I cannot remove her from the water, theres no where to go, and her tail looks larger underneath, as if another is coming. She hasn't touched food since yesterday morning, and still won't. Are there more on the way? Please help, I love this girl with all my heart.
Thanks.
3 AnswersReptiles8 years agoSolving Rational Equations?
I am soo confused with these! Any help is fine! We're supposed to find the LCD and multiple the entire equation by that to get rid of the fractions. Here are the problems:
12. A/a+4=3- 4/a+4
In that problem, I thought that a+4 would be the LCD because its in both parts of the equation. Everytime I get a=-12, but when I check it, it doesn't come out correctly.
14. a/a+3=2a/a-3 -1
I've tried this multiple times as well. I thought the LCD was a^2-9 because I took a+3 and a-3 and foiled it. I got a=1 and a=3, but again, they didnt work when I plugged them into check them.
Any help works! Thanks.
1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoJust need some advice?
Today we scrimmaged, the last before our first game. I play field hockey, and its my second year, Im on the "A" team, for higher skilled players. Today around lunch, I started getting really sick, and threw up, and even though I didnt feel completely better, I told no one, and went to practice. Once we started scrimmaging, I began feeling sick again. Not wanting to sound like a complainer, I said nothing to the coach. Immediately after starting, she yelled at me for hacking, after a girl ON MY OWN TEAM attempted to get the ball from me. After that, I was sorta feeling down, because I had just gotten yelled at. Then she yelled at me for hiding, and granted, I was, but she yelled at me 3 more times for hiding, when I was open when her back was to me, and when she turned around, the same girl had gotten in front of me. After this she pulled us aside and told us she was prepared to bring a B team player up, and send both of us down. This made me so angry, I was already not feeling Well, and yet I was being yelled at, so I went and scored two goals, in a row. After each goal, she said nothing to me about them, only yelling at me to get the ball. Right now Im to the point of just... I don't even know. I tried so hard, and I know we have our off days, but after the beginning of the practice, we really pulled together, and every time someone else did anything, they were praised. But not me. Im just so upset. I do something and I get nothing. What's the point of even trying that hard if no ones going to even give you a "good job" and if need be, some guiding critisism? This isnt really a question, but Im feeling so down about this, anything you can say, anything, is welcome. What are your thoughts? What should I do?
BTW, this is middle school field hockey.
Thanks in advance! Cece
1 AnswerOther - Family & Relationships8 years agoAny help about my turtles shell?
Pictures will be soon to come.
Okay, so I, a 14 year old, have an 8 year old red eared slider. Hes healthy, and I hope happy. While he doesn't have the largest tank, he still has alot of room to move around. We are working on a larger tank because I know that he needs alot more room to swim down. Probably about 3 years ago, he began growing algae on his back. We have always heated his tank, so we( meaning me and the rest of the family ) thought it was normal. But it grew alll over his shell, and when we scrubbed it off with a toothbrush, a whitish-gray layer was under it. You can see his natural shell patterns all under it, but no matter what we do, we cannot get past the layer. He needs to shed scutes too. A major backup of them is there, but he is very sensitive of his shell, and well, its not an easy task. We have no close by reptile vets, or herpetologists, rather, and were hoping this is something we can treat ourselves, before taking him to the vet. Thanks in advance!
3 AnswersReptiles8 years agoDropped something down the heat vent?
My bed is right next to the heat/air Vent. As its still cold here, the heat is on. As I rolled out of my bed, I heard something hit the vent, and nothing was there. Either my blankets swiped it, making it sound, or a small piece of melted paracord fell down. My room is on the second floor, the furnace in the basement, two floors below. Is this a fire hazard? I don't think it will, as when we initially moved in, there was a lot of carpet scraps in there, and no fire ever started. When the heat is on, the metal of the vent feels warm, but never hot, and I know if something did fall down, it never would have made is to the furnace. Can anyone confirm to me that no fire will start tonight(or at least be fairly certain?)? If so, please do, or I know I won't be sleeping tonight....
Thanks!
7 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs8 years agoWhat is the theme for this poem?
Its "Somethin' New" , by Shel Silverstein.
They say, "Come up with somethin' new
And everyone will buy it."
So I came up with a paper umbrella,
But no one was willing to try it.
And then I came up with reusable gum.
It seemed such a pity to waste it.
Then I came up with some mustard ice cream.
Nobody bothered to taste it.
So now I've invented a plug-bottom boat.
It's just what you need, there's no doubt,
'Cause if any water should ever splash in,
Just pull the plug-it'll all run out!
I was having a problem coming up with te theme of it. I was thinking around the lines of like take your time, or think practical, and I know they sound silly, but I'm really stuck! Ive never been good about finding the theme, but this one is particularly hard for me! Please help, it'd mean a lot!

2 AnswersPoetry8 years agoA career in music-a good idea?
For the first few years of my life I(like any other 4 year old) wanted to be a vet. Around age 10 I wanted to be a biologist. Now none of that seems appealing anymore. I want a career in music, where everyday I can go to my job and either play my instrument, or teach others to play theirs. My parents tell me Im never going to find a job, because I might not be the best player. I reAlly want to continue playing though. I truly dont even want to minor in it and major in something else. I have put so much into my musical career, I dont want to take it all out because of my parents. My one music teacher was a musical preformer, and was on the road for 6 years before he became a teacher. My other teacher is an algebra teacher, but plays gigs every night after school. I think I would like to do something with musical education, or musical therapy, but do something such as my algebra teacher, and be able to go home and play for pleasure at different places.
so, what are your thoughts? Do you think I have a shot at finding a good job?
