me and my ex were friends before we dated and our realtionship didnt end because of anything bad.... only because we only felt like friends

we havent spoken for about two months now and i want to inbox him on facebook but im not sure if i should ? we were friends before we dated, should i inbox him would he take it the wrong way (as in he might think i wanna get back with him) or just leave it because he's an ex ??
