  • Are there specific colors to be worn when hunting?

I want to get my bf a Pendleton coat for hunting for Christmas. There is a red/black plaid one and a brown/black plaid. I want the gift to be thoughtful. Are there any specific hunting rules that would preclude one color over the other? He hunts everything. Only two months out of the year, he doesn't really hunt at all. He lives in PA, if that helps. He likes Pendleton already, so I know that is a winner.....but I want to be perfect on the color choice as well. Thank you so much for you expertise........I don't alot about hunting attire......

  • What do I need to know to buy a bicycle?

Please tell me important things to know and consider when purchasing a new mountain bike.

I am looking for a sturdy bike that I can ride occasionally on a 1 mile flat loop near my house. I will use it only when I do not have the time to walk (which takes 1.5 to 2 hours). I am looking at the wide tired mountain bikes at Walmart or Target....but there appear to be two different kinds of brakes. One kind of brake pushes on the tires and the other kind are there, but I can't tell how they work.

I don't want to spend alot of money because biking will be my back up; second to walking. I won't be going on any mountains! But I do want to understand what I should be looking for. Two of the bikes were by Huffy and Mongoose. The Huffy had the brakes that press on the tires and the mongoose had the brakes that I didn't understand.

This bike would be rode 30 to 60 mins at a time. I do like the idea of the wider tires. I am a female. Thanks, in advance, for your hints and help

  • About FICO scores and paying credit cards early...?

If you pay off your credit card BEFORE you get your bill for it, does it still show up on your Credit/FICO report as an active card in good standing or does paying it off before you get your bill make it so that it is if you never used the card at all?

I want to use my cards to keep them active, but I would like to use them in a 'pay as I go' manner. I use my banks Bill Pay, so it quite easy. My concern is that it may look as if I don't use them at all, if I pay them off a day or two after using them if the CC company doesn't report their usage due to them being paid off immediately.

Thanks, in advance, for your experience in this matter.

  • Vanguard 'share' prices~ Can someone, with experience, explain the importance of the price of a share?

I have read that share price doesn't matter, but I don't understand that. If you are buying a fund where the share prices are $119 per share (VFINX) vs $19(VGSTX) and they are both good funds, you would be able to purchase alot more shares at the $20 vs $100. Also, there seems to be much more potential for growth of the share price at $20. Can a fund max out it's share price growth?

Also, I am hearing on the news that this recession is supposed to last awhile. I am considering exchanging the funds I already have for the same funds to try to lock in lowest share prices. I know that will affect my bottom line negatively this year but to me it seems that long term it is a good move because of greater growth potential and smaller fall potential. @$17 per share vs $20 that is a reduction of $3 worth of fluctuation loss, right?

I don't plan on making this a habit, I just think that this year is a good year to tinker around for cheap share prices of a proven good fund. Thanks

  • Are there any tips as to the timing of buying Mutual Funds?

I have 3K and I want to add it to my Vanguard Roth IRA. The market is low, so is now a good time to buy? I am not sure how that all works.......if is different from individual stocks? The current price is $20 per share....so does that mean I get 150 shares like I would if they were individual stocks? I am confused a little bit on things like that.

Also, when is a good time to re-allocate a mutual fund portfolio. Is it different from individual stocks?

Thank you, in advance, for your time and experience.

  • When converting a Rollover IRA to a ROTH IRA?

do you have to stay under the $4000 allowable contribution for the year or can you rollover the entire amount into the ROTH. Can you then contribute the additional $4000 on top of the Rollover in the same year?

Thanks for your experience, in advance.

  • My non-matched 403b (mutual funds) has 1.6% fee charge. Could an individual Vanguard account do better for me

    ?

I understand that my current status is tax deferred. I am currently in the upper end of my 15% tax bracket @ $29,624 adjusted and I will get a 3% COLA Jan 1. I don't have alot of wiggle room as far as staying in the 15% tax bracket is concerned.

The financial advisor that comes to my hospital is very difficult to work with. He wants to do what HE wants to do and gets annoyed if I don't go along. I really just want out of the plan. The plan we are in keeps changing. In just SIX years it has been Smith Barney,Citistreet, then Traveler's, Metlife CHART and now he wants to do American Funds. I am really frustrated with the cost of all of these changes and also of the limitations imposed upon me with regard to what I can do to rollover these accounts. The government and the financial advisor and my employer have more control over my money than I do. They can misuse it at will.

Can I get something close to a 403b that I can manage myself?

  • Dave Ramsey readers: I have Total Money Makeover, is Financial Peace, Revisited different enough to purchase?

I am not in any debt, I am using the books to budget and to learn about cash. I work at a hospital and have a TSA through the Hospital, but my contributions are not matched. I also have a Rollover IRA. There are no ELP's (Endorsed Local Providers in my area). There is one 2 hours away. I need to learn more about mutual funds and if I can have an ELP manage my TSA & Rollover for me or If I can do it myself. I am just very confused on how to move them and then how to manage them or have them managed. I really just want to pick something with a long history of good returns and put it away and forget about it.

    1) Is the Financial Peace worth buying, in my situation, if I already have the money makeover?

    2) Is the ELP worth driving two hours for? Can a long distance relationship like that work?

3)IF no to number 2, How can I learn what I need to know about TSAs & Rollovers and how to manage the funds on my own by picking long term good performers?

    Thanks, in advance!

  • Does anyone use WAMU online checking and Savings? It is 5.00% APY for the savings?

and the checking is supposed to be free with free online bill pay and debit card too.

Is this one of the better offers out there and does anyone have any personal experience using them? If so, how long and what has your experience been so far? Can they replace your regular brick and mortar bank?

I am looking into it for the 5.00%APY, but I want to make sure that I can access my $ in an emergency so a checkbook/debit would be nice.

I want direct deposit. If I paid on Friday and have it direct deposted, would it show up on friday or would it take a few days? Thanks, your experience is appreciated very much!

  • What are your favorite recipes to cook on your contact grill or George Foreman grill? Do you use frozen food?

I just bought a Hamilton Beach contact grill on clearance at Walmart Saturday for $25 ($45 reg., Great deal!) I made a hamburger and grilled the peppers, onions and mushrooms with it. Then last night I grilled Shrimp with Garlic & Olive oil. They were GREAT! But I would like some other easy ideas. Has anyone ever used frozen chicken breast (boneless) with any success?

  • My co-worker had her driver's license suspended for 30 days because of an insurance problem.?

She is being hired for a new job and they are doing a background check (at a healthcare facility). I thought maybe it might show up and told her not to give her notice here until she is cleared. She actually did not know that her license had been suspended until her insurance company found it during a random study. Is a suspension a felony or a crime or what is the technical term? Is it serious like a drug conviction? I think that hospitals only search for felonies, not traffic violations, but I wasn't sure where a 'suspension' fell....

    She is not suspended now.

    The state is West Virginia.

For ex: do you use a lower heat level than non-stick or stainless? Tips for great cleaning? I am choosing it because I want to decrease carcinogenic transfer from pan to food. I am also trying out porcelain on enamel. What do you love about it? What do you use to keep food from sticking?

  • On my credit report I have an open collection acct due to be removed?

in August of THIS year. Can this turn into a judgement? Can I get sued? The original balance is for $2,345. Someone posted this site (it is for my state, WV) but the 'legaleze' did not make sense to me, please help me understand, what the law is in my state. And is it likely that I will get sued??? My credit is otherwise good. I do not own a home nor do I have a fancy new car...I really dont have anything they could take. I am afraid that if I contact them, they will try to strong-arm me and I am really not emotionally equipped to deal with intimidation, plus I am afraid that I cant trust them (they are not the original credit card company) Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Please....experience replies only. I fear being led off-track.

This is the law for my state that I dont understand:

Also, I dont really understand what a judgement is????

  • Negative mark on credit for 7 years?

I have a couple of negative marks on my credit, one has been on 7 years and one month and still has not been removed from my file and one that is one month shy of 7 years. How often do companies like Trans union update your file? What is the process? Thanks!!

one is called 'A collection account' the other one is called 'Charged off as bad debt'

Will the 'A collection account' turn into a 'charged off as bad debt' and be on my report for another 7 years? I have learned in the last seven years to manage my money responsibly and I am looking forward to getting this 'monkey of my back' and repairing my credit with a small bank loan.....

  • RE: Dealing with wife's credit card debt.?

My friend (who is frugal, but not cheap!) just found out that his wife has amassed credit card debt of 60k-100k. His house is paid off as are his vehicles, his credit is perfect. I do not believe they have bad credit yet. I believe that most if not all cards are in her name. He has about 25k in cash and perhaps another 25K in his checking. He wants to fix her credit card problem for her before he divorces her, he has a good hospital pension. If you have experience with this, what are his best options? His wife is a retired teacher. I am concerned that if he re-mortgages his house and his name is attached to that mortgage, she may get into more trouble. She wouldnt do this on purpose to be spiteful, but sometime I feel if you get out of trouble too easy you don't learn a lesson from it. I think it might be better if maybe he pays off half of her debt and she goes back to work to pay off the rest (after getting a loan in her name for it) Please help!!! They are 63 years old.
