I just picked up my new 4 month old kitten from the Humane Society yesterday. He's pretty much found every nook and cranny in the laundry/utility room to hide in. When I get him out he'll stay and cuddle for a bit, but when I leave him to explore he just finds a small place to hide.

I know yesterday was a stressful day for him (fixed, adopted, crated around in a carrier, new surroundings, and new people around) so I'm not that freaked out yet. He has today while I'm at work to explore the areas I left open for him without being disturbed. No other cats or pets in the household. I'm pretty sure he just thinks he "got out" of his little Humane Society cage and believes once he's found he thinks he's going back into the cage. ha-ha! I'm just glad he found his food, water, used the litter box, and let me give him his post-op pain meds before I had to leave for work.

Anyone with that has gone though this know about how long it took for their young cat to adjust to their new surroundings and stop hiding all the time? I'm hoping just a day or two, or definitely less than a week.
