Someone thinks they have a right to my cat?
I work with 3 ladies who took in a black male cat that had come around the back of the store last August. I own the store and since I think it's a responsible thing to do I had the cat vet checked and neutered. I put him on craigslist and told the local pound about him at the time. When we took him in the vet said he was 4-6 months old and he was not spraying yet. Well now it has been 8 months later and a customer came into the store today and claimed he was her cat her family had lost last May. She lost him by letting him out after they had moved. Her address is over 4 miles from where he showed up and stayed. She came into the store with her aprox. 10 yr old son and has him look at the cat and by examining him she says its hers. He is an all black cat and very friendly. I wanted to give him to the kid, because he's sitting there going "it's Maddie!" and she (the mom) is pressuring me to just pass him over. Meanwhile I have 3 ladies in the back who are quite attached to him also since we have had him for 8 months now. We finally end up telling the lady, to let us think it over the weekend and get back to her if she's sure it's her cat. Well, between the 4 of us ladies we can't figure how her cat would even get over to us. Several major highways and streets between the 4 miles and why he would just stay with us if he was "lost". Also several confusing parts to her story, especially the age of her cat- she says her cat was at least 1-2 yrs old when he was lost in May. She is a customer here and I don't want to hurt the boy, but the cat is loved and happy here. I just don't know what to do at this point... I would want my son to have his cat back, but I would have had my son's cat Microchipped if he was really attached to it. All of our dogs are. We called the lady to try and assure her it couldn't be her cat because he was so young when we took him in, and she got really upset and NOT Happy and told us we were unethical because we would not give her son's cat back... I'm at a loss
