How would you feel if someone you hate gives you a gift?
I have a co-worker who hates me for no apparent reason. Of course, she's not saying it directly but you could feel her bitter resentment for me whenever we talk. I don't hate her, and frankly, I want to make amends for whatever it is I done. I have done nothing wrong and since we just started to work together, I really have no idea what is it about me that ticks her off. Maybe I offended her without meaning to, or something. My guess of the cause of her hate is as good as yours.
So her birthday is coming up and I want to give her a gift. Not because I have to, but just cause. However, I'm very wary of her. Knowing how she feels about me, I just try to avoid her and be civil when we discuss work, fearing I may do something to make her hate me more.
I don't have to impress her or anything. We could just keep doing this till the end of time. However, I don't want to work where I have to be wary of someone's attitude. I'm generally a nice person who's a little rough around the edges. I could be doing something offending without me knowing it. I'm just wondering, if I give her a gift, will it at least diffuse her hate or be even more pissed at me? I mean, it's her special day and all, and although she might hate me, I still value her as a person. I also want to write her a letter of apology if I have ever done something that offended her so. Do you think this will be a good idea? Or will I be rocking the waters even more? I really don't have anyone who I hate so I can't imagine what it feels like if someone I hate gives me a gift.
5 AnswersEtiquette7 years agoDark blood with stool? Those with experience please answer.?
Yesterday, I found a significant amount of blood (whose color and amount is similar to menstrual blood with no clotting) together with my poo. My poo is yellow and the blood is not mixed with it. At first I thought it was just a fissure so I let it be. My anus is quite itchy and I can tell that it had a small tear. But today, the same thing happened again. The color and amount concerns me and now, I'm feeling a bit woozy.
I'm stressed out lately on account of our thesis and I'm skipping meals a little too often. I also have a cold. I have little or no appetite but that may have come from the cold. I also drink coffee but not very often (once a week or every other 2 days). My current sleeping habit is a mess right now (sleeping late, waking up early). I also don't have anemia (or at least, it doesn't physically manifest).
So obviously, I need to go to the doctor to confirm. I'm babysitting my brother at this moment and my mother is not due home till a few hours from now (I'm not in the US so there is no 911 here). The dizziness concerns me but again it might have come from the cold since I think I'm blowing my nose a little too hard.
Anyway, how serious is this? What are the possible prescriptions or recommendations for this?
3 AnswersOther - Diseases9 years agoWhat are the unprofessional conducts that can be cause of revocation of a lawyer's license?
Over on our college public facebook group, a "lawyer" started to cause a "comment war" over our group. She started belittling our university, saying stuff like were just wannabes and things that could count as cyberbullying. The group is not official, therefore not under our university administration. Most of the group members are still students so they don't know how to handle this situation. She claims that she is an alumni of a prestigious university (the equivalent of Harvard) that we don't have conflict with.
Honestly, I don't really care about what she is saying about us. The thing that bothers me is that she is flaunting her title together with the law firm she's in, tainting the name of the profession.
I know it sounds petty and childish, like a child tattling to an adult. I really don't care as to what she does. My concern is what the implications of her behavior might have on the name of her profession and the general reputation of her law firm. I have no qualms with whatever freedom she has to speak. We all have our rights. However, I believe in retaining professional behavior for public trust.
I remember that a teacher was fired just because she posted sexy pics of herself on facebook, particularly her profile picture. The profile pic of that "lawyer" is pretty indecent too.
(I use quotation marks because her behavior was so bad I really doubt that she is a lawyer)
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics9 years agoWhat kind of issue is convenience, tardiness and ease of travel? Social issue? Economic issue?
Our thesis is titled: The socioeconomic impact of train travel as a means of transportation to our students (I intentionally did not include the name of the train company and school in case our professor is on yahoo!answers XD)
Anyway, we listed affordable fares, convenience, tardiness and ease of travel as some of the impacts to students as a means of transportation. Obviously, affordable fares fall under economic impact. The thing is I want to know if convenience, tardiness and ease of travel can be considered as a socioeconomic issue.
I don't know what to call them exactly. They are not benefits because from our preliminary data, the trains are not very comfortable. The title can be changed accordingly. Please help.
1 AnswerWords & Wordplay9 years agoI'm slow at "speed reading"? (Speed readers only please)?
So I know several techniques in speed reading. One that I favored is block reading. I've gotten so good at it that I can read a sentence around this long in just two glances. My problem is that it takes me a while before the block of words make sense to me (about a second). So instead of reading faster, I tend to read as slow as the usual.
I've just started using this technique recently (the moving finger and index card method is too distracting for me). I don't sub-vocalize nor do any of the no-no's of speed reading. Let's just say I've done my research. Although block reading is much more awesome to me, since I feel my peripheral vision widening, my speed is almost as slow as my regular reading.
Am I doing something wrong? Or does it take time before I get the hang of it? Since I take up more information at a glance, it seems the brain processing time becomes longer. Can I process this much information faster?
1 AnswerOther - Education9 years agoFor those who share computers?
My brother downloads a lot of games into our computer (free, of course). It is the family computer so we share it.
However, he doesn't allow anyone to play them, being the downloader, he "owns them". They can have have multiple saves on one game, so its not because were going to ruin his game. When we did play, he deleted the game altogether.
My question, do you think this is reasonable? When he first downloaded google chrome, no one was allowed to use it, because it's "his" browser. I don't rummage through his personal files and his games are in the desktop. When his game crashed our pc, I was the one who paid for the repairs.
I do not think this is reasonable at all. However, I was wondering if others feel the same way if they were my brother.
3 AnswersComputer Networking9 years agoHow to make more money out of my small investment?
I recently won 1000 pesos (around 25 dollars). I need to make 8000 pesos fast to pay for my school books. What can I do to make money fast, using my winnings as my investment? I'm currently studying so I don't have much free time.
1 AnswerSmall Business10 years agoThe difference comprehensive income and income statement? Please clarify...?
Okay, I'm confused with this, greatly. Is the comprehensive income part of the income statement or are they separate? How are they recorded, together or separate? Why is the comprehensive income distinct from the income statement?
Accounting student here.
I might have studied something about this but under another names. Please also include the other names of comprehensive income and income statement.
1 AnswerOther - Business & Finance1 decade agoMy baby brother fell on his head? Parents with experience please...?
My 1 year old baby brother fell from the stairs at a considerable height ( half a meter or more high) and hit head first on a ceramic floor. We cannot take him to a doctor because we cannot pay for a check up. He did not lose consciousness and cried for only a while. He had a big bump on his head but the swelling went down after we iced it. He did not have any behavioral changes aside from that he is eating way more than he usually does. He is doesn't seem to have nausea or loss of coordination or headaches. What concerns me is that he is eating unusually a lot more.
From outside appearance, he doesn't seem to have anything wrong with him. It seems as if he did not fall in the first place. But the eating concerns me. Is that normal growing up behavior or is that a significant effect from hitting his head?
3 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHow can I be a professional proofreader? Do I need to study for it or am I good to go?
I'm not that good but I think I can edit well. I have some experience in proofreading and editing from our school newspaper. I think have no problems when it comes to grammar and diction.
What do I need to do to be a professional proofreader? Do I need to study for it? Can I get some proofreading gigs even though I'm not a professional?
1 AnswerStudying Abroad1 decade agoWhat can I sell at my university?
I want to sell something that college students might like. I don't know how to make crafts but I learn fast and good with my hands so I can try that. I can also resell stuff. Can you suggest anything? My market seems generally stingy (since they are as short on cash as I am).
4 AnswersSmall Business1 decade agoI study hard and failed? Any advice or tips?
Prior to our finals, I studied for 2 months for at least 2 hours after school at our library. I feel like I mastered my subject (its accounting, btw). But the score I got from the exam is not that good compared to the effort I put in. I did not get too confident and proud, but I was pretty sure that I was very prepared. I don't know where exactly I went wrong...
I'm pretty good at comprehension and analysis. Is it the way I studied or I'm just not cut out for accounting? I like this course a lot so I really don't want to change majors.
It is really disheartening knowing that your best is not good enough. Any advice or tips or should I just stop?
6 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoHelp again for a formula in Excel?
I have data from A2 to A100. On B2, it contains the data from the number of rows that must be added in column.
For example if B2 contains 5, it means I need the sum from A2 to A6 (5 rows). I want to make a formula like this :
=SUM(A2:A(B2+1))
I know this is not a valid formula and it doesn't make sense but this is the basic idea. How can I make a formula whose cell number depends on the data on another cell? (Sorry for the noob question)

2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoHow can I talk to people without them hating me?
I'm really too much of an introvert but I'm trying really hard to talk to others. I feel like when I'm in the presence of my peers, I give an aura of awkwardness. I notice from others' body language that they hate talking to me. I'm not very good at carrying conversations, and I heard from others that I give an air of arrogance (I'm not arrogant, I don't know where I got this, maybe because I rarely talk). We don't hang out that much because I feel like my presence gives out a heavy atmosphere and we also have conflicting interests. I don't think they hate me, but my aura of awkwardness makes them very wary of me. They are nice people, but being an introvert and all, I can't interact with them normally. It has been a very long time and I'm used to this but I want to change. I would just like to have normal conversations with them. I don't have any common interests with my peers, which makes it really difficult to find a common ground.
How can talk to them normally and remove this aura of awkwardness?
5 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoWhat do you need to develop your very own social networking site from scratch?
I mean without using websites to make a site. We are making a site that was built from scratch. Like programmers, servers, stuff like that. Our project is making a proposal for a new social networking site (we are not going to make it, just the proposal), so we need to round up the cost of making a brand new site. Our teacher emphasizes that it must be as realistic as possible.

What I mean here is two different people, having the same idea for an invention, without being exposed to the same circumstances and haven't met each other.
3 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoI hate someone for no good reason. Why?
I really can't stand this person. He is a super nerd. Glasses and all. (that is acceptable, because we are all nerds) But I just hate him for the way he is. He's chubby and sometimes wear thin shirts so we can see his man boobs. He is such a know it all but I do better than him (so that rules out jealousy). He sometimes pretend to know a subject just so he can talk about it and when asked, he never gives a succinct answer (because he wants to show-off). He is also not the modest type too. He'll jump at a chance to brag about the contests he won in high school (school level) . Sometimes when I see him, I want to soccer punch his face in.
He did nothing to piss me off, and take note, I have nothing against nerds. I am not a prejudiced person, and never was racist, but this is the first time I loathe someone, like murdered-my-family-and-hang-their-heads-as-trophies loathe, without a valid reason. Why do I hate him for these petty reasons?
I know very well he did nothing wrong to me. My mind is rationalizing this but still I feel resentment towards him. His actions are not that bad but why do I feel like he committed a felony?
