  • Why could my period be late after years of being regular and 4 years after husband's vasectomy?

I'm 30 years old, and have had 4 children. My youngest is 3.5 years old. My husband had a vasectomy just before our youngest was born. Despite having mild to moderate Crohn's Disease and having had kidney stones and illnesses over the years, my periods have been every 28 days since my youngest was born. Now, suddenly, this month, after having what I thought was PMS and signs that my period was getting ready to start, nothing has happened. My period was due 4 days ago. I was sick with strep throat a couple weeks ago, but I believe I ovulated right before that. I was also on antibiotics, but was told neither the strep nor the antibiotics would affect my menstrual cycle. Also, my Crohn's hasn't really been acting up this month. I also should add that I had my annual female exam and pap smear done about a week and a half ago and there was nothing abnormal. I'm at a loss as to what could be causing me to not start my period yet. I'm not having any more stress than I normally do. Someone please help me figure this out.

  • Could I let my 12 year old babysit his siblings for a couple hours?

My husband and I are looking to get out for a couple hours on a weekend night. My oldest son has asked if he could babysit for us so we don't have to find someone else. He is 12 and is very responsible. He does very well in school, knows how to cook and even knows CPR and first aid (he learned from his grandfather who used to be an instructor). I run a home day care and according to DCFS he is old enough not to be counted in my capacity anymore. My other children are ages 7, 5, and 3. I've left my oldest at home by himself, without the other kids, just to go to my sister's house for a couple hours. She lives only 3 blocks away from our house. We live in a small town, and my hubby and I were thinking of just going to a place in town for a couple hours. I have family that live close by that he knows to call if he needs anything. It would also be around the time the children would be going to bed. When I was 12, I was already babysitting for other people and getting paid for it. I was wondering what other parents thought about this. It would be a good way for him to show us just how responsible he can really be, and since we won't be gone long or be more than a 3-5 min drive away, I am almost thinking we could let him.

  • What can I do until I can get to my dentist?

I am pretty sure I have a cavity on the side of one of my molars. It hurts really bad! I have called my dentists office, but they said I need to go in for an exam and xrays before I can have it filled. I can't get in to the office to have my tooth looked at for a month. I don't know if I can wait that long. Some days, it is really bad. Is there anything else that I can do at home? I've just been trying to brush often and use mouthwash. When it hurts, I just take ibuprofen to get through the day.

  • Is it possible my attic was once used for living space?

My husband and I bought a home that was built in 1930. It is a bungalow style with a full basement and an attic. The access to the attic is through a door off my daughter's room. There is a full staircase with a landing halfway up, at which point the staircase turns to go to the attic. The attic has a sturdy floor as well, which we were told had been there for many years. I knew one of the previous owners, who informed me that the staircase and attic floor were there when she purchased the house over 30 years ago. There are also 2 windows approximately 3 ft by 3 ft at each end of the attic. I was just curious to know if the attic was once used for living space and if we could possibly convert it into space for a couple more bedrooms. The staircase is not steep and narrow, like I've seen in some older homes in the area.

  • Can I let my son sleep on the top bunk?

We are lacking space in our little 3 bedroom house. We have 3 boys, and one girl. Our daughter is getting close to the age where she will need to be in her own room, away from the boys. We have a set of bunk beds, but we are using just the bottom bed for our 4 year old right now. He will be 5 in a few months and already stays in bed without falling out (he actually never fell out of bed since he was moved from a crib). Our bunk beds have an extra rail that goes all the way across the top bunk. We want to be able to move our 2 year old(he'll be 3 in november) into the room with the other boys, since he is the one sharing a room with our daughter right now. Would it be okay to have our 4 yr old on the top bunk, so we can put our 2 yr old on the bottom? I need some opinions before we move anyone.

  • What does Illinois building code say about egress window size for a basement?

I want to finish the basement in my home to put in a bedroom and bathroom. It's an older home so the windows are small. I know we need to put in an egress window, but I'm not exactly sure what Illinois code requires for size.

  • Can I be pregnant after my husband had a vasectomy?

I am 28 years old and have 4 children ages 11, 6, 4, and 2. My husband had a vasectomy about 6 weeks before our youngest was born. The procedure my husband and done involve the ends of his vas deferens being burned after a section was cut out. He went in one time about 2 months after and was told that there was no semen showing up in the test. So he was cleared. My husband doesn't get sick very often and heals quickly after injury(not sure this info matters). I was told by my previous doctor that I seemed to be quite fertile and was able to get pregnant easily in the past. In the past few weeks, I've been experiencing pregnancy symptoms like what I had with a couple of my pregnancies. My last period, which was a couple weeks ago, was lighter and shorter than all my others. Now I'm experiencing fatigue, bloating, my pants feel tighter, but I've had no significant weight gain. I also have been having constipation and headaches with no explanation for them. I just went to my doctor and she told me everything with my health is really good, considering all my health issues in the past. My thyroid is under control and my Crohn's disease is not an issue right now. I did not tell my doctor about the pregnancy symptoms yet. I had flu like symptoms a couple weeks ago, just a couple days after my period ended. I was told that there was less than a 1% chance that my husband's vasectomy would fail, but I wonder if we should have gone in a 2 time to make sure everything was good. Others that have had this done tell me that they had to go back in 2 or 3 times to check there sperm count, just to make sure. If these symptoms don't go away in a couple days, I will be calling my dr back to let her know.

  • Did we commit a sin when my husband had his vasectomy?

My husband and I were both raised in the Catholic church. We were also married in the church. We have 4 children, and had some issues with the pregnancies. It was not only hard on my body but, I felt bad for my children because I was worried they wouldn't develop properly due to my health issues. I hav Crohn's Disease and hypothyroidism. I was not on birth control, and we were able to have our children spaced out a couple years, except for our 2 older children who are 4 yrs apart. With our financial situation, we can't really support anymore children, and with my health issues, we didn't feel it was right that we try to have any more. My husband made the decision to have a vasectomy just a few weeks before I gave birth to our youngest child. He didn't want to put me through any more hardship or create problems with raising our other children. However, vasectomy is looked down upon in the church. I have told my husband to talk to our priest about it, but I think he is uncomfortable talking about it. Did he commit a sin by having this procedure done or would the church see this as somewhat of a good thing? He was thinking about my well being and also the well being of his children he already has.

  • Is a date a fruit or a nut?

I'm allergic to tree nuts, but I wasn't quite sure what a date is. I have these date logs that my husbands grandma made for us. I found out recently that I've developed an allergy to tree nuts, so I am checking almost everything I eat.

  • What is the approximate value of an old Sears Kenmore sewing machine?

I have a Sears Kenmore model 1774 in its wooden cabinet. I inherited it after my great grandmother died. It still has the original manual and accessories. I believe it still has its metal cam and all plastic cams. I was just interested to know the approximate value of it. It's in very good shape with a few scratches in the wood, but no other major damage.

  • If I qualify for a USDA home loan, what are my options for my current home?

My husband and I found out that we could qualify for a Rural Housing loan from the USDA. We currently own a home, but have outgrown it. Financially, things have changed in recent years and our income isn't what it was when we purchased our home. Anyway, we would have to sell our house but that may be difficult due to where we live. We can't afford to pay on 2 houses. I was just trying to find out if there are any programs to buy my house in order for us to purchase a new one. We are looking to purchase a new house by the summer of 2012, and by that time we will owe just under $57,000 on our current home. We live in Illinois.

  • What would an ideal weight and waist size be for me?

I am 28 years old and used to have a somewhat petite frame, but that changed a little after having 4 children. My frame seemed to widen a bit, so now I would say that I have more of a medium frame, but still petite in some areas. Most of my weight is muscle, except for my abdominal area, which I am working on. I have very muscular arms and legs, and I should also mention that I am large up top. I wear a 36 DD bra. I currently am 5'2" tall, weigh 153 lbs, and my waist size is 32 1/2 inches. I wear a size 9/10 in pants. I was just curious to know what would be an ideal weight and pant size for me. I am going back to my doctor in the next week, and I will be asking her, but I just wanted to have an idea before she told me.

  • Where can I find information on vintage Kroehler furniture?

I have a set of dressers that are at least 40 years old. I bought them used from an older couple who told me that they have owned them since about the time they were married. I have looked on the inside of the top drawers and there is a label that reads: Kroehler. Under that it reads: Sterling Quality. This is on a label that is stuck on the wood. The dressers are all wood and one has wheels on the bottom next to the back legs to help it move easier. I want to know a little more about them and possibly their value as well. I can't seem to find much information about them. I can find information about the company, but not the specific style that I own.

  • Do I need to fill out a new W-9 form?

I have had a home day care now for about 5 years. I filled out a W-9 a few years ago and my information has not changed. Child Care Resource Services had me fill it out because I started out with a family that needed state assistance for child care. My information has not changed and I didn't move, so I was told I don't need to fill out a new one. Recently, I have started watching a couple foster children during the day. Their social worker is requesting a copy of my W-9 in order to apply for child care payments from the state. I called Child Care Resource for a copy, and they informed me that they sent it to the state office in Springfield. If there is already one on file with the state, do I need to fill out another one or give social services a copy? Shouldn't they be able to just file the paperwork already?

  • Are there any programs available for this?

I am researching something about selling homes. Here's the scenario. A family of 6 owns a home that has become too small for them. The family has had a significant decrease in household income in the last 2 years, so now they are considered to be a low income family. They need to sell their home before purchasing a new one, since they can't afford to carry 2 mortgages. Is there any program that could help them to sell their house or have someone purchase it so that they would be able to buy a new house without having to wait while it sits on the market? I have heard of investors who buy houses or companies, such as real estate agencies, that have purchased houses before so that they could either rent them out or flip them. I just wondered if there was a program that would buy someones current house to aid the person in obtaining a new home.

  • What other improvements would increase the value of my house?

My husband and I have been doing home improvements for the past couple years. We are trying to increase the value in our house in order to sell it next year. So far we have made an extra room into a bedroom by adding a closet, replaced the flooring in about 90% of the house(by the end of the month, it will all be new flooring), remodeled the kitchen, remodeled the bathroom(made it bigger too), replaced half the windows, remodeled our entryway, expanded the master closet, replaced walls in 2 out of 3 bedrooms(will be doing the 3rd this summer), and replaced and added lighting. We have repainted in the majority of the house and replaced ceilings in 2 bedrooms, and will soon be replacing our back patio, repairing stucco, and will be doing other landscaping. We also just replaced the roof last summer. We don't have a garage, so we are putting up a large shed in the back yard. There is no room for a garage. Are there other improvements we could make to add more value?

  • What kind of home loan would we be able to obtain?

My husband and I have started considering putting our house on the market and want to buy a bigger one. We won't have a decent down payment until the sale of our house. Until then, we only have about $5,000 saved. We have been using our extra money for remodeling. Anyway, My credit score is just under 680 and my husband's is around 650. We have a combined household income of about $43,000. We live in a rural community in central Illinois, so houses don't sell for very high. What could we possibly qualify for? We have a car loan, and I have a student loan of about $15,000 that I haven't had to start paying back yet. I should also add that we are paying a collection agency associated with a local hospital, but will be done paying that back in 3 months.

  • What type of income and credit score do I need to qualify for a $100,000 home loan?

My husband and I are looking at all of our options and getting all the info we need so we can be prepared when we are ready to sell our house to buy a bigger one. We live in a small town in Ford County in the state of Illinois. Houses aren't very expensive. After selling our house and using what we are saving for a down payment, we will have about $20,000 for a down payment. Houses around here are selling for an average of $100,000. We need to know what income is needed to get this loan and what credit score will get us a good rate. Before anyone says, 'Ask a professional,' I have contacted someone, but am waiting for him to call me back when he has time to talk to me. I am just trying to find some info while waiting, and I am going to compare it with the info he gives me. We want to get as much info as we can.

  • Could I get a home equity loan to buy an empty lot?

We have some equity built up in our house. It is enough to buy 2 empty lots at a nearby lake. We want to buy the lot so we can have lake privileges and such. We may build on it in the future. Can we buy the lot with a home equity loan, or are there other options? The lots together are offered at a very low price.

  • How much would this house be worth?

I am trying to get an estimate on the value of a home. It isn't on the market because the owners are renting it out right now. My husband and I are considering purchasing it when the current lease is up. I need to try to find it's market value. The house is located in a small town in east central Illinois. It sits on a regular city lot. It is a 2 story house with 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, full basement that is partially finished, eat-in kitchen, laundry on main level, open front porch, small deck off back of house, detached 2-car heated garage off of alley, and a shed in the back yard. It has been rewired within the last 5 years, and had a few small updates. Approximate square footage is 1600. The furnace and A/C are almost 15 years old and the windows were replaced about 5 years ago. The siding hasn't been updated in about 15 years, but has been painted. The roof is about 15 years old. I was also told that the kitchen is usable but may need an update. Could someone give me some idea of what it might be worth. The owners are ok with us making an offer, but I want it to be fair. I don't want to insult them, but I also don't want to pay too much for the house, if I will have to put some work into it.
