  • Water heater drain pan inside the house needs to drain outside.?

Water heater is in laundry room. I m selling the house and the home inspector wants the drain pan to drain to the outside of the house, so fine I put a 1" PVC pipe to the outside. But you don t want a 1" air gap for bugs, critters, weather. Need a one-way valve or something? A "P" trap at the outside wouldn t work because there s never any water flowing (unless you have a major water heater leak which shouldn t happen). What is normal practice for this?

  • Pouring concrete over concrete: How clean must the bottom surface be?

I m pouring a 1" top coat on a concrete slab to raise the level of the floor. The current slab had glue down vinyl -- i peeled all the vinyl off but there is still remnant glue stuck to the concrete. I ve tried scraping it, but it isn t coming off completely. Is this going to be ok to pour onto? I was planning to paint concrete adhesive on it before pouring the top coat, that adhesive won t be in contact with the bottom concrete. I don t want to have to grind down the concrete to get to a raw base layer.

  • Car stereo USB/MP3 adapter?

I have a 2005 Infiniti where the stereo is built into the in-dash computer, climate control, and all that in one. I cannot swap it out for an aftermarket stereo. It takes tape and CD. What I want is to be able to play MP3s from USB thumb drives. Is there something on the market to make this possible?

  • HDMI cable converted to Cat5/6?

I have a 100 foot long HDMI cable installed in a home which isn't being used anymore. I would like to re-wire the HDMI (or find a converter) to have it function as a Cat5/6 network cable.

Anybody know of a converter that can do this, or how to re-wire it for ethernet?

I see Cat5 to HDMI converters, but not the other way around.

(Yes, I realize that HDMI cables are far more expensive than Cat5, but that's not my issue -- the HDMI is already installed and the Cat5 is not.)

  • Does Forest Lawn Glendale CA still put up the Christmas star?

I was born and raised very near to Forest Lawn Glendale, but moved away about 20 years ago. They always used to replace the white cross atop the hill with a 5-pointed star at Christmas time. That was always such a huge excitement as a kid the day the star would go up because we knew it was finally officially Christmas time. Do you know if they still do this in December? Could someone link me to a photo -- I haven't seen that in over 20 years. Thanks.

  • Daily headaches of a toddler, when playing hard, crying hard?

A 3 1/2 year old toddler gets daily headaches, always when playing hard and/or crying hard. His face gets very red and he has to stop playing and just sit it out. Pain seems to go away after he cools down and chills out. None of the other kids his age have this happen. Pediatrician checked him out, checked blood pressure, and says he's fine. Has been happening for at least a year or more. No known head trauma.

Seems almost like heat stroke, but even when its not hot out. Looking for any expert advice.

  • When will seafood allergy symptoms go away? (eye swelling)?

Had an allergic reaction to seafood for the very first time in my life at 6:00pm last night. Within 2 minutes of eating it my eyes swelled shut, my nasal cavities swelled shut, and I began suffering respiratory failure. Immediately took 2 doses of Bendryl and symptoms began to slowly improve.

Its not 13 hours since I ate the offending food, most symptoms are gone, except that all around both eyes are still full of fluid and quite swollen. The itchiness and redness is gone from the eyes, but swelling remains.

When will this go away? And would it help to take another Benadryl?

  • How hard would it be to create tobacco with THC?

With genetic modification, could tobacco be grown that contains THC (from marijuana)?

The government will never ban tobacco, so if tobacco had THC then the pot heads would be happy and it would smell better than pot smoke does.

  • Does Power of Attorney revoke the grantor's rights?

Please tell me if I have this right:

Say I have PoA for my father; I understand I could make investment decisions for him. But that does not revoke his own rights to making investment decisions either... correct? He would need to be found legally incompetent for that to happen, I believe.

  • Libertarians: Is public nudity/indecency acceptable?

I tend strongly Libertarian, encapsulated in the concept that all criminal laws must focus on "harm to a person or his property" (i.e., if it doesn't harm me or my property then its not a crime).

But public nudity strays outside of that parameter. I would not be comfortable with open nudity permitted at a shopping mall, for example (although I consider topless beaches to be fine).

This (link) should not be allowed in public either, even though he's not doing direct harm to me or my property -- its simply not decent.

  • How can we get any solar flare warning?

If a solar flare travels at the speed of light, how can NASA (or anybody else) provide warning of them? It would seem that by the time their equipment detected the flare, its already here.

It seems comparable to having a "bullet warning system" that alerts you when you've been shot.

  • Can my bank alter the terms of my checking account? Obama's fault?

I've had a truly free checking account with my bank for many years (no strings attached; no direct deposit, no minimum balance, no monthly fees). They recently notified me that they are changing the terms of my account to require a significant minimum balance or else charge a monthly fee. When I contested this unauthorized alteration of my contract, the clerk said that this was a new federal law that Obama is responsible for imposing upon banks, whereby they can't have free checking any longer.

Is this true, can they do this, and is it because of regulation from Washington?
