I'm doing a story on a young woman who becomes an environmental terrorist in a single city.  She has a psychological disorder in the which she has been abused or otherwise stimulated by her surroundings and circumstances where she loses her ability to empathise with humanity and becomes radically pro-environmental.  She's a brilliant scientist who maybe starts out normal (not that she can't have problems, but she isn't a psycho or sociopath) but real life circumstances (even if they are extreme) break something for her mentally into become an unsuper villain.  

I've thought of a dinosaur archeologist who finds a magic cavern and obtains the ability to govern dinosaurs. It's a little hokey, so I don't know, plus women in archeology and chemistry are more common in literature and film than other stem fields. Also no geneticists. That's just too easy and dangerous (you know Spiderman and all his enemies).

What are some stem fields that receive less love in literature and film but still could transform a person into a superhero?

Esp. either a woman lying down or like an angelic one (flying).

Also, iconic or symbolic dragon's (classical or renaissance not fantasy) and women.
