  • Advice on classes to take next year?

I asked a similar question on this site a year ago and got good advice, so I figured I'd try it again.

I am a freshman in highschool going into sophomore year (10th grade at my school.) We've started forecasting for our classes next year, and I'm having a dilemma about which ones to choose.

We can only have 7 credits every year, and with all my core classes plus social studies and health, that leaves 2.5 credits for electives for me to choose. 2 of my elective credits are band and German, neither of which I can quit.

So this leaves me with one half credit (half year) class.

There are two classes with which I would like to fill this credit; I can either take Child Development, or Music Theory. I don't have room to take both, so I need help deciding which one to take.

I have always been interested in music, I was in orchestra through elementary school and middle school, and band through middle and high school. I join extracurricular symphonies and camps dedicated to music (I play bass clarinet and bass guitar as of right now, though I have played other instruments in the past.) I have a basic handle on music theory, but beyond reading notes and counting rhythms, I don't know much about the subject. I feel like taking music theory as a class would be really helpful throughout high school, as theory has always been something I've struggled with (along with it being a subject I find really interesting.) This being said, I don't see myself pursuing music much farther once I finish school. I don't think I'll pursue it seriously in college, though I have 3 years to change my mind on that.

On the other end, outside of school I like working with children. I have babysitting and tutoring jobs with the children of family friends, and I counselor at summer camps with little kids. The child development class would help me learn more about how to actually take care of children, as well as give me more experience, which could make it easier to get childcare jobs (which are the only jobs I ever get). If somehow my goals of being a psychiatrist out of college fail, children would be a viable career option for me. Another thing to add, if I take child development, it will help towards fulfilling my health credit for graduation without taking the standard health classes, (which I really dislike.)

So...I pose my question to you lovely people of Yahoo answers. Which one should I take my sophomore year? What would you take in my position? Why?

    Thanks in advance ;)

  • 'Nsync, Aaron Carter, names ring any bells? I'm looking for an certain album.?

I remember when I was younger, (sometime early 2000s) that we bought a box of cereal that had a cd in it, I think it was a nickelodeon singles collection, maybe kid's choice awards or something. I'd listen to it all the time on my cd player. A couple of months ago one of my friends made me listen to Bye Bye Bye and I was like, "I know that song!" and remembered it came from that cd.

I'd like to find it again, for nostalgia purposes if nothing else. Ringing any bells for anyone? All I remember it had was Bye Bye Bye, No strings Attached, (both by nsync) and an Aaron Carter song called Oh, Aaron.

Sorry I don't have more. Otherwise, would anyone know where I might find out if they don't know?

    Thanks.

  • Bass guitar finguring chart?

I'm learning bass guitar, and I would like a fingering chart for reference. If all else fails, I'll make one myself, but does anyone know of a site that has one?

And I'd like it in bass clef, ON A STAFF please. No one seems to have those. I can only read music from a staff right now, so that's what I would like. Something like this: http://www.music-mind.com/Music/Srm0013.GIF but in bass clef please? thanks.

  • Mincraft lagging only on startup Mountain Lion OS?

My minecraft has never lagged before, and then when I upgraded to Mountain Lion for my mac, it suddenly takes forever to log in to my server. What I mean is, it sits on the multiplayer page saying "Polling" for about a minute, then the server appears, and when I click it it takes another 30 seconds to leave the page and open the server up. Then it lags for 3 or 4 minutes in the game, and then it plays smoothly from that point on. Is it an issue with 1.3, or my OS? Any easy way to fix it? Answers greatly appreciated.

  • lots of may birthdays me and my friends?

    I have a lot of friends and family who have may birthdays, usually early in may (including myself) I was just curious if that was a coincidence or if we all had similar conception dates? Would there be some reason for all of our parents to have sex in august sometime? I know it's a weird question, i'm just curious ^^;

  • where can i watch phineas and ferb episodes?

online for free besides youtube. the demons of the copyright have taken down almost all the episodes from excaliferb onwards, and I would like to be able to watch the rest of them.

if i can't find anywhere i'll just have to convince my mom to let me buy the season on itunes, but i might not have enough money, so i'm hoping i wont have to.

    please and thank you :)

  • Should I take all honors as a freshman?

I am going into 9th grade next year, and we are now signing up for classes. Apparently taking all honors is really hard, but my parents are determined I should get on the honors track while I can. I am confident I CAN do it, but I don't want to get really stressed out, and I want to have some kind of social life. I am doing 3 after school clubs as well.

I will be taking (for sure):

    Honors lit

    Honors bio

    German level 1

    concert band

+plus 2 half credit art electives, and a half credit theatre elective

I want to know if I should stretch for honors geometry. Math has always been my weak spot (not to mention I despise it), but I have managed to scrape all A's this year, even if they are very low A's. Will the work load be enormous? Do you think it will be too hard? If I don't get on the honors track for math in 9th grade, i'll never be able to get back on it. A lot of my high achieving friends are trying to make it into all honors. I would ask my math teacher, but he doesn't like me, and he is never as willing to help me as he is my classmates :'(

What are your experiences? Did you take all honors in freshman year? What would you recommend for someone like me?

  • Should I tell a teacher about my depressed (?) friend?

I have a good friend, and he is, kinda depressed. He is always talking about how much of a terrible person he is, and how he deserves to die. He hasn't done anything to seriously physically hurt himself, such as cutting, or suicide attempts. He hasn't seen a counselor, and his parents don't know. He rants on to his friends, including me, a lot about how much of a selfish loser he is, and no matter how much we deny it, he doesn't listen. He is also constantly saying things about how he predicts his girlfriend will dump him within the week. It's been going on for a couple of years, and it's gotten steadily worse since then. I'm considering telling our school counselor, but I'm hesitant. First of all, if I did, he would probably hate me for the rest of the school year (probably even beyond that), which I do not like the thought of. (I have enough "friendship" issues as it is.) Also, I've been his friend since fourth grade, and what little trust he has put it me will probably be shattered if I tell a teacher. He will stop telling me anything about troubles in his life, as well as the rest of his friends probably. It will make him feel like he can't trust anyone with anything...

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like it's been going on for long enough, and I think I should do something, but I'm not sure.
