Tonight I was watching Doomsday Preppers. It was first time viewing this show so maybe what I saw was not the norm, but I got the distinct feeling that these people only wanted to help themselves. In the episode there were two men in the same community independent of each other who were pioneering aquaponics gardening. One of the men was doing this because he thinks that in the near future there will be a backlash against genetically modified foods hence a chronic shortage of food. So what he's done is created a closed loop garden where he raises carp as food, the carp produce waste which is then used as fertilizer for the plants and the water is then filtered with various kinds of edible water plants. He stated that he's spent $20,000 so far on this project.

Here's my problem: if this man is so sure that there will be a food shortage then why doesn't he devote his energy to ensuring that this shortage doesn't happen? He has a working model of of a system that could potentially usurp factory farms and he just squirrels it away in a shed. Why doesn't he take some the energy and money he's devoted to paranoia and adapt this working model into a larger scale that can be used to feed mankind while not screwing up our environment in the process.

It would save a lot of time. I'll click on a question expecting a gay guy only to be confronted with a jaded lesbian and because I'm a gay man, I dont know what the hell to do for her.

I'm a gay guy who doesn't fit any of the feminine stereotypes, so people say that I'm "straight acting". The thing is I'm not "acting", I'm just being myself. It's also a slap in the face because the term assumes that only straight men can be masculine and if a gay man is masculine then it's just because he's pretending to be something that he's not. Now I know that there are gay men who are effeminate and that's fine, but that doesn't mean all gay men are.

Example: I really like this guy, but he's straight. How do I tell him? HE'S STRAIGHT LEAVE HIM ALONE!!!!

He answers every question with the typed out bird finger and then says that he hates gays. He's telling people to go to mylazysundays.com which may or may not be a harbinger for a computer virus. I think that @Edge is gay, but he can't accept himself so he trolls on here thinking that if he makes fun of gays then that will make him stop being one. After all, homophobia is most often the result of internalized and repressed sexual feelings for the same sex.

They speak of us as though we are sub-human. That we should be accorded the same respect that one would accord to a microbe or a moth.

Several decades ago, our businesses and corporations were run by people who were passionate about their products. But today, the upper echelons of our corporations is run by a bunch of bean counters with "a dime a dozen" business degrees who care more about numbers and textbook hypothetical's than about the products they sell.

They say they are "Christians", but thaey don't act like it.

Why do you think that progressives are unemployed? Does it set you at ease to pretend that your ideological opponents are lazy?

You have Rush Limbaugh who harps and harps about how sacred and special marriage is when criticizing gay marriage. If he thinks its so sacred then why has he gotten married FOUR times. If he thinks it's so sacred why doesn't he also rant about the concept of divorce and the divorce rate. And it isn't just him it's also many other conservatives who hold this draconian view.

Somehow, when two men or two women love each other and want to get married, conservatives start coming out of the woodwork saying that marriage is being trampled on, but when a man and woman get divorced and destroy a family, these same conservatives have little to say about the sanctity of marriage being violated.

the Tea Party started the same way?

Tea Partiers were considered kooks. Just a bunch of unorganized protesters raging against government. Now look at them.

The only one that seems to come close is Ron Paul, but the GOP doesn't seem to be taking him seriously.
