Canine Tooth Removal ?
Is the Canine Tooth important?
This morning I noticed the tip of my dogs canine tooth was purple. Google told me there is likely nerve damage and the tooth was dead. I sent a picture off to my vet, they agreed and want to remove it.
I feel so bad that he’s going to have his tooth missing! Any tips on helping him adjust.
The cause was likely a cooked pig bone my brother gave him out of innocence, because I’ve been keeping a close eye on him since and a few days after is when I noticed the tooth was purple.
2 AnswersDogs12 months agoSKIN INFECTION: I believe my dog has a bacterial skin infection?
My boyfriend said he felt a pimple like bump on Saturday (didn’t tell me till Sunday) Sunday Hunter (my 5 year old large mutt) had a patch of crusty fur. When looking at it it looked like a crusty ***** scab.
I cleaned it and clipped the fur to find no deep cuts or wounds, some surface scapes (I’m assuming from cleaning the puss off) it’s on the back of his head, between his ears (I tried to pictures but it doesn’t let me). It doesn’t seem to be bothering him. He say really well and relaxed while I cleaned it. (However he would likely be that way even if it was bugging him a bit)
I put polysporin on it the first night and tonight i put a coconut oil, apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil mix on it.
I’m hoping somebody has some advice or ideas as to what it could be. He has a vet appointment but not till next week, only time I could get work off. I don’t want to go to the emergency vet as the charge triple the regular vet and I don’t believe this is truly and emergency.
Any help is appreciated thanks
4 AnswersDogs4 years agoI would like to rescue a cat. is this situation okay?
I would want to get a much older cat from 8 - 13 years old but no younger than 5. I rent a room and the cat would live in the room. I would feed Acana cat food and have toys and a cat tree. I have large windows but there is screens on the inside (could be scratched which would not be good). I spend a lot of time in my room, I have wifi, tv, laptop. But I do work and do part time school through the day. I would be able to take it on nightly walks (if I can leash train). Also I have a dog that I board on a farm but he comes to stay with me occasionally ( he is a large breed so it was unfair to make him live in a small room) he loves all animals and has cat friends. I will be out over the room in 2 years. And lastly I have bad allergies so is there hairless cats for rescue, but I was allergic to my dog at first but symptoms went away after a while. I always have reactine stocked up tho as I LOVE animals but have allergies. Note: I can afford a cat.
Thoughts or suggestions. Is this an okay living arrangement for an older cat? I figure it's better than a shelter but I don't know much about cats and will still have lots of reaserch to do.
2 AnswersCats5 years agoTemporarily Re homing my dog?
i got Hunter 3 years ago as a puppy. he is a large sized mutt. we have done everything together, since then we have only been apart from each other a max of 2 days at a time and that was only 7 or 8 times.
i am now going back to school as a part time student and moving back in with my dad, who is no longer allowing hunter to be at his place at all. i made the EXTREMELY hard decision to find a temp home for my 2 years of schooling.i was lucky enough find a great and loving family to take him and follow though with his high maintenance routine but i pay ALL his expenses still. as well i pick him up on weekends
thats my current situation, what are your thoughts on it as i feel sickened everyday that im doing the wrong thing.
as well, do you think he'll forget about me and not want to live with me anymore or will he like the other family more now cause they will be doing most the care taking?
i am truly heartbroken by it and miss him everyday
all answers welcome
7 AnswersDogs6 years agoWell being of my dog?
I have a 70 pound 2 year old mutt (the dna test said lab, aussie, golden, German Shepherd) he has always been very low energy but he has always gotten at least 2 hours a day usually 4 or 5 tho.
I recently moved to a small apartment and have been much busier than I was and he get only about a half hour a day, with occasional visits to the dog park and hiking trails. This has been going on for about 4 months now.
So far he has no behavioral issues you'd expect from lack of exercise. He's very well trained, enough to do therapy work still. But he seems less happy? He used to ALWAYS sleep curled up with me and now he sleeps on my couch. And he used to play with his toys a lot more and now he just sleeps.
Otherwise he's very healthy, vet says he's good. He's fed orijen/acana and I work at Pet Planet and animal health food store so everything he's given is high quality, so I don't think it's a health issue.
Do you think that my dog may start having behavioral issues even tho he still hasn't after 4 months?
And does it sound like he may be depressed and do you have any solutions?
I have considered getting a dog walker but all the ones around here are very expensive so that would be a last resort for me.
3 AnswersDogs6 years agoprotection or fear instinct?
My dog is a 2 year old male large mutt that's not neutered. He is very calm and gentle. So much so that he is a therapy dog (not a service dog). lately he has be showing a little bit of aggression to other dogs when they try and take his sticks other than that he's good with them and people.
the other day my boyfriend's mom was making him very mad and when he got home he let out all his anger by yelling and throwing dog toys at the wall. And my dog did something he's never done, instead of crawling under me and hiding he sat on top of me and stared at my boyfriend, when I told my boyfriend to calm down cause he's making Hunter (my dog) nervous he walked over to us and my dog jumped up on him and gave him kisses but Hunter kept trying to get between us when my boyfriend came close to me.
And for about 20 min my boyfriend was pacing around the apartment hunters eyes did not leave him.
I'm wondering if hunter was protecting me a little bit or if he was scared?
Also if his new aggression over sticks and this new behavior with me was because of his age or the fact that he's not neutered?
And if I got him neutered (I did not plan to but if the aggression gets worse I will) what effects will it have on him since he's older?
Note: please no comments on how bad it is he's not already neutered. I do not breed him and I never plan to , and I take every precaution to make sure there are no accident puppies. Everyone has their own opinion on the matter, please respect mine.
2 AnswersDogs6 years agoRed sore on my dogs anus?
Sorry for the crude picture however as you can see my dog has a red sore on the right side of his butt hole. I'm not sure what to do about it. So far he had shown no signs of anything being wrong except for he often licks it. I would rather not have to go to the vet for it as it is very expensive. But if it is to worsen i'll take him. Does anyone have any idea what it is and what I can do for it?
3 AnswersDogs7 years agodog ate a tampon?
Hi, today my boyfriend forgot to close the bathroom door when he left for work. I got home from work and the bathroom garbage was all dragged out and I think a tampon is missing.
My dog seems 100 percent fine. Acting normal not slow or sluggish. His belly isn't swollen or anything. I will be taking him to the vet as soon as I can (which is tomorrow morning at the latest) I need to know if I should do anything until then or if he's probably fine cause he has no symptoms
Btw my dog is a large mutt about 75 pounds
4 AnswersDogs7 years agoEggs everyday for 2 weeks?
I had been away for about a month and i left my dog with a friend, they ran out of food and instead of contact my boyfriend to bring them more or buy and i pay them back later they made their own meal plan for him.
They fed his 8 eggs every day (4 in the morning, 4 at night) they said its fine they used to feed thier dog eggs all time, but i dont think its healthy in that amount. Im concerened as to what it would have done to my dog especially before he was free fed on orijen that was mixed with fish oils and coconut oil and for his bed time snack is an apple with cottage cheese. He is a 80 pound mutt and im just wondering if theres any certain things i should be watching for or worrying about. He seemes completly fine Right now but his coat isnt as soft as usual and he lookes skinnier thAn normal

My boyfriend and i are looking to get a dog. Our first option i found out is not actually a breed and we are looking to get a repuatble wel bred dog.
Those are our next options and i was hoping someone would have advice or first hand experiance with any of those types of dogs and could share their knowledg.

4 AnswersDogs7 years agolooking to get a dog, Native American Indian Dog?
My boyfriend and I are looking to get another dog. Right now we have one male very loving and friendly 1.5 year mutt. He does therapy work once a week and has a great disposition. And we are financially and now have the time for another dog.
We look at a lot of dogs and came across a native American Indian dog which I had never heard of.
They sound perfect on DOG Breed Info site but I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience with one or at least new someone with one that could share their opinion.
We live in an apartment but take our other dog out about 5 hours a day between the both of us. Or on weekends the dogs would be out all day. Which hopefully is enough, im still not sure. Also my boyfriend want to be very strict with the dog but I am more of a I want the dog on the bed and the couch with me etc. So what is your opinion on how firm to be with this type of dog.
6 AnswersDogs7 years agomy dogs tail is tucked and her biting it and acting afraid?
Yesterday I took my dog to an off leash conservation area and he was perfectly fine and normal before it.
He did a lot of swimming for the first time in a long time as the weather is just starting to get nice here (I'm in canada). He also ran all through the forest and played with other dogs.
He was fine the whole time and then later we went to the dog park by my house and he played again for a couple hours and he was still pretty good but I noticed he was biting at his tail the odd time.
We went home and he slept for a few hours and when he woke up he was a completely different dog. His tail is tucked all the time and bites at it. He bites at it mostly only when he stands and walks. If he's lying down its just the odd ich. He also is acting afraid or super submissive. I've never abused him or anything.
I have a vet appointment for monday. But I want to know what I can do or what it may be.
Could it be a sprained tail from swimming, I checked for ticks and didn't see one but he has long think hair and I could of missed one.
Any opinions
1 AnswerDogs7 years agomy dog living in a small room?
so i've had this dog since he was a pup. i pay for everything i do everything for him. hes my whole world. however i live with my dad who believes dogs should only live outside.
so i got garage thing and turned it into my dogs dog house, i even have a bed in it and would sleep out there with him, its very nice and fine. but this winter i live in canada and it got to - 40 and such and it was just to cold so i convinced my dad to let him be inside for the winter however he was only allowed in a tiny room by the back door (about the size of 3 large dog crate put together) i slept in there with him also. but he wasnt there much as he came to work with me and i spent most my time out and about with him.
here one of my problems, i now have school coming up and wont be able to spend the same time with him for about 6 months probably only 3 or 4 hours a day as oppose to the at least 18 hrs a day im with him now. and while in not with him he'll be in that little room and in a month back to living outside and if im not there im afraid something could happen to him. im not sure wants best to do, find him a new home (which would kill me but i want him happy) my dad refuses to help in anyway with the dog and i cant move out however i will be moving out next September. also my dad is making a tiny fenced in our already fenced yard for my dog to go in cause he doesnt want him all over the yard. i just would like some advice on what to do. also im 19 and my dogs a large mutt.
1 AnswerDogs7 years agochia seeds for your dog?
I've started taking Chia seeds and they help with staying healthy and are very nutrient dense. I was just wondering if dogs could have them as well?
2 AnswersDogs7 years agofeeding old raw food?
So my dog is fed raw. I put the meat in the fridge 24 hrs before I feed it to thaw it. But I the other day I forgot his one meal in the fridge and now it's been in there for a week. So it wasn't frozen it was in the fridge. I'm just wondering if you can still feed that to your dog or if I should just throw it out. It was duck and chicken meat if that makes a difference.
5 AnswersDogs7 years agowhy wont my dog eat without me?
So my dog will only eat his food if I'm in the room. When he was on kibble he was free fed and I noticed he would only eat if I was near him. Now he's a raw it's the same thing, he won't eat it till I'm done cleaning and go sit in the room where he eats.
4 AnswersDogs7 years agowhats your dog pet peeve?
Mine is when people grab my dogs leash. I don't know why but there are very few people that I don't mind them grabbing my dogs leash. Usually it's at pet stores and the works will be like "Ohhhh soo cute" and then my dog wil get all excited and what to go say hi, so I let go of the leash so he can run over to the employee, and they always grab his leash or step on it to stop him from going anywhere, I know they mean well but MY GOSH does that bother me. Or people on the street grab his leash and stuff, ugh idk just other people holding my dogs leash without asking and if I don't personally know them. DRIVES ME CRAZY.
Another is when random people try to tell me how to treat my dog, for some reason I'm like a magnet for
Cocky, assumptouse people, who think I'm dumb. When everyone who knows me knows my dogs amazing well mannered and he's spoiled to death.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has pet peeves regarding their dogs and what are they?
10 AnswersDogs7 years agodog sore? (picture included)?
Here's what it looks like
http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=16c7yxk&s=8#.UvD-s...
It used to be a callus and was black. He has be sleeping on rugs and beds and softer surfaces more often than he was. So I'm thinking maybe it might just be the callus softening. But in not sure it's just a theory.
So far i've been putting a bit of coconut oil on it once a day. He doesn't like it being touched but he doesn't have a fit either.
He 1yr and 2 month old large sized mutt. He does play outside A LOT and with other dogs. It's on the right hind leg, and the other leg has nothing not even a callus.
Any other ideas on what it may be? And how I can treat it?
1 AnswerDogs7 years agofeeding your dog a raw diet?
So i've just decided to switch my dog over to a raw diet. I bought a box of Chicken Meals, so It raw chicken, kale and carrot mix.
I put one pack in the fridge to defrost over night, it seems still kinda frozen but mostly thawed. Should I mix in some of his kibble (Orijen Regional Red)? Or just give it to him, should I put him meal for dinner in the fridge to? Should I of started with a different meat? I just assumed chicken was the basic trasition meat.
And any other comment or suggestions are helpful!
6 AnswersDogs7 years agoodd behaviour in a dog?
So my dog doesn't act like any other dogs I know when he sees me. Most of them when they see their owner get crazy excited and kinda jump up and gibe kisses. The usual stuff.
My dog get excited I think, but he wags is tail (his whole butts going tho. And he pick something up in his mouth comes to me than runs away than comes back with another thing in his mouth shows me than runs away and so on till his mouth is so stuffed with dog toys he can't carry anymore, then will all the stuff in his mouth he just does circles around my feet or the area I'm in.
Also he without fail always eats after he does that, settles for a second than straight to the bowl (he's free fed)
Im just wondering if anyone had any ideas of why he does this as oppose to the normal stay at your feet happy to see you wag and excitement.
He's just over a year and a large mutt.
