  • Why is my horse dehydrated when he has a constant supply of water and how can i fix?

I have a 21 year old AQHA Gelding that is just a little dehydrated, what confuses me is that he has a constant supply of water, a bucket in his stall and a tub of water in his pasture (which he can come an go freely) i wet his feed down to where its almost a soup and he drinks/eats all of it... it is summer so that is probably part of the dehydration but how can i fix it and why do you think he is dehydrated? Thanks :)

  • A little help with feelings?

Okay well first off just going to jump right in, the guy i like is in LA, his name is Joey, and he is down-right adorable... the three problems are 1. we are 9 years apart! 2. he is in LA when im down towards NC 3. I probably won't ever meet him :( I know your going to be like "Oh my god, if you haven't met him how do you like him???" Well I don't freaking know, all i know is i do, he has the best personality ever, cutest green eyes, and seems really sweet and outgoing, i remember one time i had a dream of him and when i woke up i was just all bubbly and giggly. I don't know why but i like him, like REALLY like him...any ideas on how to maybe get closer with him? I'm under 18 so i can't move to LA :/

  • Horse not gaining weight but not loosing?

I have a 20 year old AQHA, he is in good shape and is exercised about 3 times a week. The problem is, I can't get him to gain weight! On the henneke scale he may be 5 1/2... not really sure how to judge that his ribs are showing but he looks good everywhere else. He gets hay am/pm and grass (like we take him out of his pasture to more grass, grass is always greener on the other side!) 3 days a week. He is on the feed Triple Crown Complete with chopped timothy hay and we are thinking of starting him on a weight gain supplement. (The vet is coming out soon to check his teeth as i know his teeth are a possibility) Is there anything you guys would recommend for weight gain or change to help him gain? Thanks alot :) also would switching to alpha alpha hay benefit over coastal hay?

  • Riding Crooked Horse Bareback?

Now before everyone complains about me calling my horse crooked, he IS crooked, not lame, not unsound, just plain crooked :)

The 'crooked' horse is Clarky, he is a 14.3 TBxQH

under saddle he has the absolute worst canter because he constantly does that 4 beat canter and its really choppy and you can't get him to do a halfway decent 4 beat unless you soften his mouth and get his head down a little. Now to the question part. I was riding bareback on him the other day and was scared to canter as i knew it was choppy, but i got up my bravery and did it and it was SO comfortable, and I had him in a *halter 'bridle' so i couldn't get his head down. So here we were cantering around with his head in the air with a comfy gait, my question is why is he like this bareback but not under saddle?

*halter bridle meaning a halter with a leadline tied to the sides of the noseband... :)

    Thanks alot guys :D

  • Help my horse has severe rainrot! what can I do to stop it?

My 20 year old Quarter Horse gelding has bad rain rot. To treat it I have been scratching it off and scrubbing it with betadine scrub and sometimes I put swat on it after I spray him off, he has a little near his withers, ALOT on his hindquarters (near the tail as well but mostly higher up) he has it really bad on his hind legs and its starting to come on his front legs.

What can I do to stop this? I currently soak my brushes in clorox (or bleach) every week to kill the fungus and then wash them off with normal water after.

Is there anything I can buy to help it? please respond ASAP I am worried for him, and I feel really bad about it.
