  • What cooking method would I use to pre-cook a chicken before smoking it?

I have what I believe is called a "cold smoker". It's an old Outers brand electric, basically an aluminum box with racks and an electric element in the bottom (and no manual to show me how to use it). The wood chips are put in a small pan over the element. I think they are used dry instead of soaked. Should I brine the chicken, then bake it until thoroughly done? Do I put it on a pan inside the smoker, or just on a rack? How long would I leave it in the smoker? Would I need to refill the wood chips at some point just to get a good, smoky flavor? Do I monitor the temp in the smoker box, in the meat, or both? Is there a temperature I need to maintain?

    Thank you.

  • Who do I turn to for help in appraising estate assets?

My Dad died in September. I will probably be the executrix but don't have the letters testamentary yet. How do I evaluate his assets? Would an auction service or person who does estate sales help appraise this stuff? He has collections of clocks, guns, tools and other miscellaneous items and I would have no idea of their worth. For vehicles, can I go online and use Kelly Blue Book values? Even there, there is a retail value, a trade-in value and an individual's selling price. Which would be used?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Thank you in advance for your answers. I posted here because I wanted to hear answers from people who may have experienced this, not just "lawyerese".

  • Can I sign as the witness for my brothers' signatures for our Dad's life insurance claim?

I did witness their signatures. I'm just wondering about whether it will be seen as right thing to do by the insurance company since I have an interest in this also.

  • Is there any way I could get financial aid for moving out of my parents house at 17 without a job?

I'm not emancipated but I feel as if I will hurt myself if I stay here much longer. I'm in a tech school, so I don't have a good paying job yet. Im looking real hard, but no luck in this economy. My parents don't seem put off by the idea but even though they want me out just as bad, I have no help.

  • Which lawyer should I use?

My Dad died 16 days ago. On one of those early, sleepless nights after he died, I emailed the law firm that I knew had written up his legal documents, the Power of Attorney and will. I just chose one of the lawyers on their website to correspond with, as I did not know which specific lawyer Dad had worked with and I had a question. I chose a female who had most recently joined the firm and I figured would have an up-to-date knowledge of the probate process. She called me the next day and we arranged a meeting. She mentioned "not wanting to step on any toes" and that one of the other lawyers was the one who had originally worked with Dad and, because he knew the specifics, he sat in on the meeting with us.

So, am I now obligated to use HER (personally, I was more comfortable with her) or should we use the other lawyer (who has more knowledge of our Dad's situation, but did not seem as thorough at explaining things) ?

    Thanks for your answers.

  • Help with curtain tie backs. My bedroom windows are very close to the corners of the room?

Any ideas on how I could attach tie backs for curtains? There is 1" of wall space between the window molding and the corner.

    Thanks.

  • Those of you who have a "relationship with God"?

Do you ever compare notes with each other to see if they are the same god?

  • Christians, have you already done a head count of your friends and family?

"Okay, Aunt Dorothy's goin' to Heaven because she's so sweet but that Tom guy across the street drinks and cusses too much, so I don't expect to see him "up there"."

Honestly, I would think it would be hard not to do this if I were a believer, and given how you all already seem to know "God's" intentions and all.

  • The media's role in fanning the flames regarding religion?

We all know it's a very competitive business and hate when they beat issues like this to death, but really, what are they to do? If you owned a news network would you run the stories about the Westboro Baptists and this Jones moron, or not? Also, in your opinion, how accountable are they when things get violent?

  • How would you have responded to this email?

I received this last December from the mother of one of my son's classmates. It was also sent to many other parents. Realize, this is small-town, middle America, these people rarely, if ever, have any dealings with Muslims yet they feel free to spread this crap and I would guarantee that if I had responded to it I would have been outcast in this town. Would you have said anything? It would be nice to have a few snappy comebacks on hand because something similar will likely happen again this year.

"USPS New 44-Cent Stamp!!! Celebrates Muslim holiday..

If there is only ONE thing you forward today..... let it be this!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of Pan Am Flight 103!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon !

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the military Barracks in Saudi Arabia !

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the American Embassies in Africa !

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on 9/11/2001 !

REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM attacks!

Now President Obama has directed the United States Postal Service to REMEMBER and HONOR the EID MUSLIM holiday season with a new commemorative 44 Cent First Class Holiday Postage Stamp..

REMEMBER to adamantly & vocally BOYCOTT this stamp, when you are purchasing your stamps at the post office.

All you have to say is "No thank you, I do not want that Muslim Stamp on my letters!"

To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors.

    REMEMBER ~

pass this along to every Patriotic AMERICAN that you know and lets get the word out !!!

Here is something to chew on...

They (MUSLIMS) don't even believe in Christ, & they're getting their own Christmas stamp! BUT, don't dare to dream of posting the ten commandments on federal property! This is truly UNBELIEVABLE !!! "

  • Are all of you people objecting to the Islamic Community Center being near Ground Zero?

hoping for a violent outcome? Or just some of you? Or maybe none of you, really, but someone else wants you worked up about it.

Are you thinking about the consequences of working yourself and others into a frenzy? Will you feel bad if this turns violent?

  • I have seen believers say countless times how atheists believe that we (atheists) are "god(s)"?

I have always felt the opposite, that I am just a minuscule part of the whole, a part that the whole has done without and will do without again just fine, thank you.

So, where does the idea that I believe I am "god", come from? Is it how believers think THEY would feel if they thought there was no higher authority in their life?

  • We've all heard some American "patriot" exclaim: "It's freedom of religion, not freedom from religion."?

What is meant by that? Are us non-religious types expected to just pick a religion out of a hat and start following it?

  • Is anyone out there familiar with Swai?

Fish sold as frozen filets. I have only recently noticed it in our local supermarkets.

How does it compare with tilapia?

    Thank you.
