Assigning protons in this NMR spectrum?
This is the spectrum I'm looking at: http://orgchem.colorado.edu/Labs/Experiments/Chalc...
The molecule itself is a chalcone with this structure: http://snapplr.com/87wy
Which hydrogen belongs to which peaks? I'm having a tough time figuring this out. I know the alkene protons are part of the conjugated system so they're in the aromatic region as well.. but where relative to the aromatic protons? And are the aromatic protons on either side of each substituent nonequivalent, or...? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
1 AnswerChemistry9 years agoWhat kind of bug is this?
We found this bug in Minnesota with its proboscis-looking thing stuck inside of a paralyzed/dead butterfly: http://snapplr.com/fs91
It's pretty big, maybe the size of a thumbnail. If anyone recognizes this thing, I'm really curious to know what it is! Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerZoology9 years agoWhat NMR splitting pattern is this?
I'm looking at a 1H NMR spectrum for borneol: http://snapplr.com/avrr
I'm having trouble analyzing the splitting pattern in the expanded inset (for Ha). Is that a doublet of a doublet of a doublet...? Where is the splitting coming from?
Any help you could provide would be great!
2 AnswersChemistry9 years agoWhat kind of wasp is this?
We saw a wasp that looked very similar to this in Minnesota: http://snapplr.com/qdfe
It was at least an inch long and had long dangly legs when it flew.
If anyone knows what kind of wasp this is, we're very curious to know!!
Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerOther - Home & Garden9 years agoWhat is this purple perennial?
We're trying to figure out the identity of this mystery plant - my mom thinks it might be a "pincushion," but the leaves look a little different.
This is what the plant looks like at night - the flowers open up a little more during the day, though. If anyone has any ideas what this might be, that would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance

1 AnswerGarden & Landscape9 years agoInterpreting the NMR spectrum of methyl 3-nitrobenzoate?
I'm having a lot of trouble interpreting the aromatic region of this NMR spectrum. I know the CH3 H's are around 4ppm as a singlet, that's not a worry. And I know the general locations of each proton on the spectrum. I'm mostly confused about the splitting patterns, especially that big bulk in the middle. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here is the part of the spectrum I'm confused about: http://i48.tinypic.com/99j6gi.jpg
Thanks!
2 AnswersChemistry9 years agoPreparing a solution of NaCl...?
How would you prepare 25.0mL of a .037M solution of sodium chloride? (Most importantly, what is the mass of solute?)
Then.. you add 4.0mL of the .037M NaCl solution into a 25mL flask and dilute it to exactly 25.0mL. What is the concentration of the diluted solution?
I already did these but I'd like to double check my work. Thanks!

a .010 molar solution of Li2SO4 (aq)?
It's been awhile since I've had chemistry so a method or steps (if needed) would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

I already solved this, but I want to double check.
1 - ((sin a - b)/(sin a cos b)) = cot a tan b
Thanks!
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoproving trig identities?
tan (x/2) = cscx - cotx
(1/2)sin(2πx) + (1/4)sin(4πx) = sin (2πx) cos^2(πx)
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoHelp me prove these trig identities?
I had about 50 others to do - these had me stumped.
(4sinx cosx) (1-2sin^2x) = sin(4x)
tan (x/2) = cscx - cotx
(1/2)sin(2πx) + (1/4)sin(4πx) = sin (2πx) cos^2(πx)

A pendulum swings through an angle of 20 degrees each second. If the pendulum is 40 inches long, how far does its tip move each second? Round answers to two decimal places.
I've already got an answer but I'd like to double check. Thanks in advance!

I just tried a tangerine bubble tea for the first time. It was pretty good, but the tapioca balls are not my thing. Just wondering if anyone else has tried (or heard of) these things before.
