  • Does my wife have cancer?

She was at the eye doctor a couple months ago and he noticed her optic nerves were swollen, so referred her to a specialist. They concurred and sent her for an MRI. The results showed no tumors or clots, so they doctor was leaning toward a diagnosis of pseudotumor. Bloodwork did test positive for lupus antigoagulant. The doctor also wanted her to have a spinal tap to rule other things out. She had that done last friday and the opening pressure was 31, well above the normal range, but we already knew it would probably be elevated. Anyhow, it's now Monday and she just got a package in the mail for an appointment with Carti Cancer Center. She did not receive a phone call or anything else from the other doctor. The appointment is not until April 5th. Should we be worried that they found something bad? I mean, being setup for an appt. with an oncologist is very worrisome, but would they really do that? That seems poor form to make someone worry and 20 days whether they may have cancer. Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!

  • I have an odd question about EEG's?

Ever since I was young, I've been able to voluntarily activate some sort of peculiar feeling that feels partially psychological, but also sort of physiological. It almost feels like I mentally go into hyper-focus, but it also feels as though it has an effect on my vitals like respiration and heart-rate. I'm not really sure what I'm doing or how I do it, but I've always been curious to know more about what may be going on, physiologically speaking. Firstly, would it even be plausible to get a standard clinic to hook me up to an EEG and measure my brain activity during this, or would that be something that only a research project would accommodate? Secondly, in the interest of my already stretched budget, do you think I'd be likely to find some sort of university research project or something that would oblige me? It may turn out to be something completely mundane, but it's an odd sensation that I've never heard anyone else say anything about and I'm just incredibly curious what is going on when this happens. Thanks, in advance!

  • Welcoming new dog into our home and there is trouble in paradise. Help, please!?

I have a Parson Russell Terrier that lives in the backyard and a Shorkie that lives inside. They get along fine and I can let the Shorkie out back to do his business or play with the terrier and they are fine. We just took in a small female dog and, while I haven't seen them together yet, my wife said the terrier was acting very aggressive like he wanted to hurt her. Any help on getting dogs used to new family members and easing them into a civil relationship?

  • Just found out my wife is pregnant...?

We just found out last night after she took a couple home tests. My next question is, what kind of doctor do we need to find? We've been in this area for around 3 years and neither one of us has needed to visit a doctor, so we don't have a family doctor. She's called a few ob/gyn's that she found online and they all made appointments only by doctor referral. How do we find a doctor and what kind? Do we need a ob/gyn, or could we just find a family doctor and book something?

  • What single location could I get all 3 of these things done to my car?

I need a new timing belt.

My car needs to be fully serviced. It was supposed to have been at 60,000 miles, but never was.

I need my a/c recharged. It's only blowing luke-warm air.

I know I could get all this done at the dealership, but they're too expensive, it's too hard to schedule an appointment with them, and I took it in before to have it serviced and have another problem looked at. They assessed the mentioned problem, and then told me that it also needed to be serviced. Somehow, they didn't understand that they were supposed to do that also. That kinda pissed me off, so I'm done with them. Would a MIDAS or something do all three of these things?

  • A question about PULL-UPS...?

So I'm a budding climber, and I've been doing several different things in my strength training plan concerning pulling strength, but I'm curious about the pros and cons of each method. Could anyone help me understand the differences in max-strength and endurance-strength I'm getting from each? Anyhow, I either do 3 sets of regular pull-ups, going to failure each time with about a minute of rest in-between sets. This generally ends up something like 16 on the first set, 12 on the second, and 10 on the third. I think it's important, as opposed to my second routine, that on this one I pull-up until total failure on each set. The second method is a pyramid, where I do a set of 3 pull-ups, rest, then 4, then 5...all the way up to 10. Then I work my way back down...a set of 9, then 8, etc...back down to 3. This ends up leading to way more repetitions...94....than the first routine...roughly 40. However, with the pyramid method, I never get quite to failure. So, what are the pros and cons of each routine?

  • Sport vs Trad climbing?

Started getting into climbing a couple months ago and have, thus far, only been able to train at the gym, but what really get's my motor going is the idea of climbing real rock out in nature. I have nobody to mentor me in all this, so I'm basically trying to learn everything online and apply it on the bouldering problems and auto-belays in the gym. So, is the difference between trad climbing and sport climbing just that in trad, you place your own protection as you go, where-as sport climbing is climbing routes that already have bolts fixed incrementally?

  • Honest opinions (Bohemian Rhapsody cover)?

Just an early recording trying the song. Not sure yet whether I can pull it off well enough to put the effort into finishing it, so I'd like your opinions.

  • What is a good way to get involved in feeding the hungry?

I'd like to find a way to help feed the hungry and impoverished. I don't have a lot of money to offer, but I do have time, energy, and the willingness. I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend an organization that has offices/branches nearly everywhere that would help facilitate this. I'm sure some are better than others, so could anyone offer their advice/experience in this pursuit?

  • In what STYLE/GENRE would classify this song?

    https://soundcloud.com/t-studio/got-you-figured-ou...

Finally finished this song, and I was listening to it and trying to figure out what genre to put it under on soundcloud. I've found that, often, an objective set of ears can help you hear your own stuff a little more clearly. Anyhow, with that in mind, I'm trying to figure out what "genre" to label this under.

  • What do you think of this brief opening to a story?

I've always read voraciously, both fiction and non-fiction, and I piddled briefly with writing some fiction some twenty years ago when I was in middle school, but haven't done anything since. But in the back of my mind, I've always wanted to try to write a novel at some point in my life. Anyhow, with that in mind, I started turning the idea over in my head a few months ago. I'm a little intimidated by the notion, honestly, but am now starting to think I'll just work a story here and there when I feel inspired, and just see what may come of it. Anywho, I just wrote the opening paragraph last night and would like some feedback. It's very brief, but I still thought I might get some thoughts on it. Here 'tis!:

It was warm...uncomfortably warm...and humid. John stood at the edge of the stream looking down into the pool. Below him, completely unaware of the saga unfolding in the world above the surface, he observed a small minnow vivaciously feeding on the insects that the brief downpour had washed into the water only minutes before. "Isn't that it, though?", he thought to himself. "We're all so wrapped up in our own drama; predator to some, prey to others. So much going on in the world, and we rarely have the faintest notion of the big picture...the magnitude of it all". A resolve (or was it surrender?) settled over him. As if a heavy curtain had drawn around him, he became completely unaware of the oppressive atmosphere. He no longer heard the spirited flow of the water at his feet. His eyes were open, but he did not see the world in front of him. At this moment, his mind was focused entirely on what was in his hand. His grasp tightened around it. He pulled his hand from his pocket. John knew now what he had to do.

  • Need some feedback on an original song I'm working on....?

Hey. This is a song I started working on a couple weeks ago and I'd just like to hear your thoughts on it...the good, the bad, and the ugly. I still have to write/record vocals for the verses, so keeping that in mind, do you like where it's headed? Anyhow, here 'tis:

This is a song that I wrote years ago. I hadn't done much recording in a long time but have recently started putting together a home studio, so I figured re-recording this song would be a good place to start. Anyhow, I'd just like some advice...the good, the bad, and the ugly! \m/(-_-)\m/
