Book recommendations?? Asian culture?
I really love Asian cultures. My favorite books are Chinese-American/Japanese-American etc. novels such as The Bonesetter's Daughter(favorite book ever) and A Step from Heaven. I really enjoy the ones set in Asia, but I also enjoy books about coming to America. I have a twelfth grade plus reading level. What kind of books would you recommend that are similar to these that I might enjoy? Thank you!!
2 AnswersBooks & Authors9 years agoWhy does my dog seem to pant for no reason?
She is a five year old cocker spaniel who is relatively healthy. She is active and social and does not pant during the day, but at night when she sleeps in my room she just sits up for half an hour and pants. She isn't walked right before bed and she gets plenty of water. I also have the ceiling fan on so she isn't hot. Is she just stressed out? My step mom left a few months ago and I know that really stressed her out because she used to sleep in her room, so is she just still upset? I just want to make sure it's not heartworms.
3 AnswersDogs9 years agoDo I have a chance of getting a good scholarship?
I live in Oklahoma and I hope to get a full-ride scholarship to Oklahoma State University. I just completed junior year and I will be a senior next year.
Here are my qualifications:
constant 4.0 throughout high school
8 AP classes.
Member of National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society
Volunteer at the Humane Society
ACT score in the low 30's (Probably will be improved next year)
Also, I am hovering on the edge of national merit scholar semi-finalist, as I got one point lower than the cutoff was last year. I'm really hoping the cutoff lowers one point this year so I can get that too. But I'd rather see my chances without it because it is not guarunteed. Based on the information above, not counting national merit scholar, would you say I have strong chances of getting a full-ride scholarship to an in-state university?
1 AnswerAdolescent9 years agoNeed ideas related to the Fibonacci Sequence and/or Leonardo Fibonacci.?
I am presenting a project in math class tomorrow over the famous mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci, focusing specifically on the Fibonacci Sequence. This is the equation for a perfect spiral and it's the one that goes "0,1,1,2,5,8,12...". I wanted to bake a food or even just buy something at the store that I can pass out tomorrow to the class that still ties into my project. Any suggestions? Even if it's just a design for decorating cookies? Thank you!
1 AnswerHomework Help10 years agoHermit Crab lovers help! How does my habitat sound?
I recently got 2 medium-sized hermies from Petco and I just wanted to make sure they have a suitable habitat. this is how I set it up...
-Clean, 10 gallon fish tank with lid to keep in heat and humidity.
-4 inch deep Eco Earth substrate on half of the tank and 4 inch deep hermit crab sand on the other.
-Hamster half log made of wood for a hidey hut and a climbing toy. (I plan to get some cholla wood soon also for them to climb on.)
-Natural shells in various sizes to change into. (unfortunately the crabs came in painted shells that I'm waiting for them to switch out of)
-Saltwater dish with sponge and 3/4 inch deep water that I change daily and a freshwater sponge. (Do they also need a freshwater dish?)
-Diet of half hermit crab pellets and half fresh food consisting of grapes, bits of ham, carrots, and Ritz crackers.
-A tank heating pad on one side of the tank and a lamp that gives off heat and light on the other.
-A water mister bottle that I spray their tank with twice a day for added humidity.
Does that sound alright?
I also have a couple questions.. First, I don't have a thermometer or a humidity gauge but when I stick my hand in their tank it's noticably hotter and wetter. As long as I maintain that, do I really need one? And lastly, they're having a blast digging big tunnels under their substrate all day. Is this normal behavior or are they getting ready to molt?
Thank you!!
2 AnswersReptiles10 years agoIs it safe to hide under a stairwell during a tornado?
I live in Oklahoma and there have been very severe storms which will produce tornadoes predicted tonight for my area. The house I live in doesn't have a basement or tornado shelter and the bathroom downstairs has a window across the top of the shower. So I assume the safest place would be under the stairwell right? The stairwell is also right in the very middle of the house. How safe is it?
2 AnswersOther - Destinations1 decade agoI need some catchy phrases?
I am on the homecoming float comittee at school and I need some catchy phrases to put on the side of our homecoming float. Our theme is Pixar's "Bug's Life". Our school's mascot is the bulldog and we are playing the Choctaw Hornets. If you could think of anything that had to relate with bugs life and beating the hornets, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
2 AnswersOther - Visual Arts1 decade agoIm confused about what I can bring on a plane?
Next week I'll be flying from Oklahoma City to Idaho and I'm confused on what I can bring.
Here are a few questions of mine.
1. I know I can bring 3 ounce bottles, but how many bottles can I bring?
2. Can I bring more than 1 bottle of the same thing?
3. How big can my carry on bag be?
4. Is there anything (besides obvious stuff ike weapons) that I can't bring either in my carry on or my suitcase?
5.Can I bring liquids larger than 3 ounces if they're in my luggage and not in my carry on?
6. Can I bring non-liquid stuff of any amount? (like a regular size thing of deodorant)
I'll post more questions if I think of them. Thank you!
4 AnswersPacking & Preparation1 decade agoMy dog is being dominant over my new puppy. What should I do?
I have a three year old female cocker spaniel who isn't very socialized with other dogs, but she's not mean. We just got a 9 week old mix puppy, and she acts very dominant over it. She growls at him and will snap at him sometimes, and then she'll try to stand over him. I know she is just trying to establish dominance and probably won't hurt him, but I'm worried that one day the puppy will annoy her too much and she'll really hurt him. Both are fixed by the way. Should we keep them away from each other or just watch them? Or should we just let them do their thing?

1 AnswerMovies1 decade agoAfrican Americans out there?
African Americans, do you get offended when people call you black? At my school, everyone just says black but then a few days ago i said this one girl was black and she went PHSYCO on me saying that i was being disrespectful and she wasn't black she was brown. Which ofcourse I realize, I'm not stupid, but "caucasian" people are called white and technically most are a peach-ish color but no one calls us peach people lol.
So what are your opinions?
Do you prefer African American or black?
Or do you just not care?
Thanks. :)
20 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoNon-Americans, what are your American stereotypes?
I am a teenager, born and raised in America. I was just reading previously posted questions about stereotypes (for a research paper) and they all seemed just stupid and ignorant. I'm going to go ahead and speak up for my country a little bit and contradict those stereotypes.
1. While it is true that some Americans are stupid, lazy, arrogant, ignorant, etc., (Trust me, I've lived here long enough to know that for sure.) that is ABSOLUTELY not the majority. Most Americans are caring and try to be good people.
2. A popular stereotype is that we are ignorant, but the thing is that when people post stereotypes about how they think we are (insert stereotype here), it just makes them seem ignorant, because they haven't taken the time to really try to see if that's true.
3. Most of us do not think that Americans are the greatest thing to walk the Earth. We might not seem as educated about your country as you would like us to be, but I don't know of any countries that I can think of as being well educated about the United States. And maybe you are, but this is probably a case of being misinformed by people who were misinformed and so on. Maybe we know a little more about your country than you think we do, and maybe you know more about our country than we think you do. In fact, my favorite class in school right now is AP Euro, which teaches about European cultures and history.
4. All American girls are not slut*y blonde ditzes. Very very many of us are regular people just like any of you. The girls who you hear of are cases where they were probably raised in a bad home, as I'm sure many people from your country are too. Try not to see the few as the majority.
So there are a lot of stereotypes but I don't have time to talk about them all. Also, I realize that there are many stereotypes from us about people from other countries too. I'll name a few that I've heard. Everyone from England drinks tea all day and says "hail the queen!' and is all proper. Everyone from Japan dresses like a Go-Go girl and plays video games and eats sushi all day. Everyone from Australia surfs and says "g'day mate!' and is tan. These stereotypes seem absolutely and completely ridiculous to me but someone from those countries is going to have to speak up for themselves. Personally, I think that stereotypes are doing nothing to help the issue of racism. So, what I'm wondering is what are stereotypes you have heard about Americans?? What do you personally think of them? By the way, when i say "you" i mean it not as whoever is reading the question but as whoever beleives that stereotype. Thanks for any answers, anything could be helpful for my research paper. Thank you so much!
And yes, I asked this in another category too but i also wanted to know the views of people my age.

I hate it on George Lopez when Angie is like "Why don't I blah blah blah, HUH?" Why does she have to say huh? I really hate it when people say that. OK so it's not that big of a deal, I just felt like getting that out there. What is your biggest pet peeve?
11 AnswersAdolescent1 decade agoIs a cockatiel a good beginners bird?
I had a cockatiel when i was very young and i loved it. Ofcourse, i didnt have to clean up after it because i was like 6. So, I was wondering if they are good birds for beginners. How long do they live? Are they difficult to clean up after? Are they noisy/stinky? How much do they need human contact? How much do they cost to get started? Etc.?I dont really want a bird that makes a big mess but I am willing to clean its cage and stuff. If you can think of any other birds that would be cleaner or better for a beginner, could you put those in your answer? Thanks guys! :)

I am saving up as many pennies as I can get to use in this thing called the penny wars at my school. So I was thinking of getting like $10 to trade in for pennies at the bank. Can the bank do that? Would they say no or would they do it but just be really pissed off?
(and sorry I dont know what section to put this in. This just seemed like the best one.)
Thankss!! :)

4 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoWhat to include on a babysitting flyer?? (Parents?)?
I plan to put up flyers at my church so that i can start to babysit.
Here's what I have so far...
15 years old
Infant, child, and adult CPR and first aid training from red cross
experienced with children
Anything else??
Also, the "experienced with children" part comes from having 3 brothers and 3 sisters. All of which but 1 are younger. I have not babysat before. If you are a parent and you learned that i had not babysat before but i had "experienced with children" on my flyer, would you feel lied to??
And 1 more thing. What would you feel is a reasonable rate to charge?
(and yes i know that maybe this doesnt exactly belong in this category but i tend to post questions and not get any answers and i figured i would get a lot more parents in this section than in the advertising section.)
Thanks guys! :)
