I'm simply a girl trying to do something - trying to learn as much as possible, trying to help other people learn, trying to make a difference in this world, trying to better myself. My main interests are anime, manga, English/grammar, technology, and movies.

  • How will Chrome's cutoff of NPAPI plugins affect Chrome OS?

I'm not a big coder or programmer, but I opened Chrome today and Java told me that it updated, but it may not work on some sites due to Chrome stopping support of "NPAPI plugins", with the exception of things I use such as Silverlight, Java, and Facebook Video.

I'm planning on buying a Chromebook very, very soon (don't try to convince me otherwise, I have my heart set on it). How will Chrome not supporting these plugins affect the usability of my Chrome experience? How will it affect Chrome OS, the operating system of Chromebooks?

  • Which Chromebook is right for me?

I know I want to get a Chromebook; 95% of what I do on my laptop is done on the Internet, and I'm already a heavy user of Google Drive, so that's fine. But there are so many Crhomebooks on the market; which should I get?

I'd like one that's around $200 or lower, cost is very important. The Lenovo ThinkPad Chromebook, Dell Chromebook 11, Toshiba Chromebook 2, and Acer C720 (the one that's NOT a touchscreen) all look good to me.

Screen quality is not important for me, nor is battery life and portability - I won't be on the go a lot. Things that are CRUCIAL for me are memory and speed; I usually have an average of 25 tabs open at a time.

With these things in mind, which Chromebook is right for me?

  • Should I tell my boyfriend that my boss is hitting on me?

The place I work is minimum wage, but it's quiet with a very light workload, and it's helping me pay my tuition.

There are three employees: me, my boss, and her fiance. Lately, her fiance (my male boss) has been VERY heavy on the compliments - commenting how nice my blouse is, how good my boots look on me, ect. Once he stroked my hair because he said he was patting it into place for me. I thought it was just because he an immigrant from the Caribbean, and he may not have the same sense of personal space/boundaries.

Today, he offered to take me home from work, and I accepted. He slowed the car to about 5mph (my house isn't far away) so we could so that we could "talk more". Like asking me what I liked to do in my spare time, and if I'd be interested in more than a work relationship and if he could pick me up sometimes...I told him that I'm perfectly fine with being professional, and that I'm not outgoing so I wouldn't accept his offer to go out.

After asking me my age (I'm over 18), he said the tight pants I was wearing today made me look "******* FINE."

Before the school semester started, my boyfriend would pick me up from work every day, so he knows I'm in a long-term relationship. I reminded him that he was in a relationship as well. I got home safely, and without accepting any of his weird offers.

I love my boyfriend, and I tell him EVERYTHING, but he knows this guy and I don't know what he'll do if he finds out about this exchange. Should I tell him?

  • Why are both of these sentences grammatically correct?

"I am a girl who's trying to do something."

"I am a girl trying to do something."

As far as I can tell, both of these sentences are grammatically correct. But why does removing the words "who is" still make it an okay sentence? How does the English language even WORK?

  • How old are the dinosaur eggs at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History?

I need to find out the age of the dinosaur eggs in an exhibit explaining the evolution of the egg. It was, unfortunately, part of the now-closed-for-renovation Dinosaur Hall, towards the back near the Fossil Cafe.

I need the info for a project and I cannot find it in the Smithsonian's artifact online database.

  • Does the earth's gravity affect the moon?

The moon's gravity affects the Earth; water is pulled outwards towards the moon on whatever side is facing it, creating tides in our oceans. Does the earth have a similar effect on the moon?

If the moon had oceans, would they rise drastically on its side that faces Earth? Does the earth's gravity have any other determinable effect on the moon?

  • What manga is this (image included)?

Found this page while reading Rosario to Vampire II.

It's obviously not from R+V. What series is this?

  • Who is this character (link to picture)?

I was reading a manga and the scanners put this picture at the end of a chapter.

    http://www.mangahere.com/manga/daydream_nightmare/...

Scanners sometimes take pictures from other works and stick them at the end for their scanlators' greeting or recruitment call. So I know this boy isn't from the manga I'm reading. Who is he? What series is he from?

  • Who is this character? (picture included)?

    http://ppg.snafu-comics.com/?comic_id=182

I was reading the exquisite PPG Doujinshi, which has a lot of cameos from characters, usually from Cartoon Network shows. This guy is unfamiliar to me. A couple pages after the one in the link he formally introduces himself as "The Prime Woodland Naga Vicar of Resolution, Divinely Chosen Proselyte of the Great Azure Dragon and Heaven of the East...but you can call me Naga."

Who is he? What show/franchise is he from???

  • Is this a real metal?

    Look at this .gif

    http://i3.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/4...

Do you think this is real? What metal could possibly act like this? What is it called? What is its melting temperature? Why would it become transparent when splashed, like in the image?

Someone please, PLEASE explain what I've just seen to me, or I might lose my mind over it.

  • How do I tell someone I don't want to be his friend anymore?

I have been a friend to this guy I've known for three years. I liked him because he was smart and I thought his knowledge was interesting. I've gone to his parties and watched movies at his house. However, as I've gotten to know him better, I've found that he's bitter at society because he doesn't have many friends, and he quite possibly may be racist. (We live in a majority-black populated area.)

Now we're at separate schools, but he still calls me and sends me messages on Facebook asking to hang out. I've refused them so far, but I'm running out of excuses. I am a very nice person and wouldn't want him to get mad at me if I tell him I'm no longer interested in being his friend. How do I break it to him?

  • What can I do with an Engineering/Engineering Technology degree?

Just starting college. I'm interested in the field of Engineering (leaning towards Mechanical/Industrial eng.) because I like learning about mechanical processes and how they work.

If I get a Bachelor's in Engineering or Engineering Technology, what jobs can I be hired for? (Not counting construction, construction management, computer science, or automobiles.)

    Thanks

  • I'm getting a new laptop. What do you suggest?

I'm looking for a new laptop (not going for a MacBook, sorry Apple fans). I won't be using it for anything special, like gaming or graphics design or code writing. I just want a fast computer that won't freeze when I run three programs at the same time. That can start up and shut down in a decent amount of time. That won't ask me to install the drive every single time I plug a new device in.

    Just basic, home/office use.

I've heard good things about brands like Acer, Inspiron, and Lenovo. Are these good? Which do you think are the best?

  • Gender-neutral pronouns in writing...help?

There's a small issue that's come up in writing a couple of my stories, and I'm confused about how to solve it:

What happens when you have a character with an ambiguous gender- either appear androgynous, don't have a gender, or you just don't want to reveal the character's gender just yet?

Unless the story's written in first person, what pronoun do you use to refer to the character? If I use "they", it will be too obvious I'm concealing the character's gender. If I use "he/she", same thing. If I use "it", well, that's just plain dehumanizing.

I know that there's no true gender-neutral pronoun in English, but does anyone have any ideas?

  • What is the name of this Salvador Dali work?

    http://artobserved.com/artimages/2009/11/Screen-sh...

It was sold on paper at Sothbey's in 2009, I think, for 1,870,000. I fell in love with this piece, but have never seen it before. What's it called?

  • Is it true your laptop isn't supposed to be more than three or four years old?

I bought my laptop about three years ago, new, an HP Pavilion. Recently, it's getting very, very slow and takes forever to boot up and log in, not to mention fully load my desktop. I've heard that a laptop becomes practically unusable after more than three or four years. Is this true?

Should I get a new laptop, or does my current one just need a checkup by computer experts?

P.S. It doesn't have a virus (I have a good firewall), and the disks have been optimized and all that. Are there any other things that could make it sluggish, like large programs I need to delete?

  • Could someone help me understand 'Darker Than Black'?

I'm in the middle of watching Darker Than Black (the first season), and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. However, I still don't understand one of the key elements of the story.

What's the whole deal with The Gate? I mean, what the heck is it? What is that wall they've built around the city, and why is it there? And what does the Gate have to do with the fake sky appearing?

What's the connection between the Gate and the Contractors, and why do they act weird around it? Does it really restore what you've lost? And why are the Contractors' spirits represented as stars in the fake sky?

And where do the Dolls/Mediums/Whatever you wanna call them fit into this?
