  • Can the public library (San Diego) bill for items 5 yrs old, that one has already paid for?

    Hi all,

I lost a San Diego public library book back in 2004, but I PAID for it and now I received a bill for it. I called the library and they said the only way they can remove the fee is for me to come in with the receipt showing I paid.

    My problem:

I don't have the receipt- who would? And is it even legal for them to bill after so long?

Even if it's legal, how can they remove only if I have receipt?

Finally, I'm not even in the United States anymore! I'm in Japan and won't be back for another year!

They say I have to come in to the library! Since I had paid, I have no inclination to do so, or have someone pay it for me- please Help!

    Any advice is appreciated!

    Thank you,

    Christie
