  • How to get a fake credit card?

I'm not trying to steal anyone's identity or buy things with it. I'm helping do props for a film and there's a scene with a close up on a credit card, but I need one with the character's name on it. The numbers could be totally random, but the letters should be raised (like a real card). The back should also look somewhat official. The bank does not need need to be real as we could just make up a credit union or something for that. Any suggestions?

  • How to deal with my dog's separation anxiety?

I adopted a dog that didn't have a good childhood. He isn't aggressive at all, but he is skittish and clearly hadn't had a good meal/bath/nail trimming in a while. He is about a year old and has been living with me for a week. While I'm home, he hangs on me all day long and won't go into a room unless I go in with him. When I leave the house to go to school or work, he cries for the first few minutes after I leave. People have told me to let him get used to it on his own and don't go back to console him when he cries. However, I live in an apartment building and his crying annoys the neighbors. What can I do to get him more used to being by himself?

Note: I'm with him most of the time, and bring him anywhere he is allowed. He isn't neglected by any stretch.

  • What to do about my cockroach problem?

My roommate and I moved into our apartment in Baltimore City about 5 months ago. It was a really good find, as it's the first floor of a 100-year-old row house with antique fireplace, floor-to-ceiling windows, a back porch to the alley, and it's in a fun neighborhood for $400 a month each. I'm prefacing with this because I really don't want people to suggest I move because I love this place.

The problem is cockroaches. They aren't a huge problem. My roommate and I are both really clean, but every once in a while (maybe once or twice a week) I'll see one in the kitchen. They're oriental cockroaches, so they're really easy to catch and flush, which is what I usually do. I know they are coming from the basement apartment, which has been vacant for the past few months. I'm pretty sure I found the hole that they are crawling up through, also. I taped it up with duct tape today, but I'm skeptical as to how effective that will be.

Considering it isn't even my dirtiness that is drawing them in, I don't want to have to pay for an exterminator (also, I can't afford one). My landlord really doesn't care about maintaining the apartment at all, either. He's pretty much left everything up to the tenants, which is why rent is so cheap. But since the bugs are obviously coming from the basement apartment I feel like there's nothing I can really do.

  • Why would anyone make crack cocaine to sell?

First, a disclaimer: I am not a drug dealer and I'm not interested in getting involved with drugs. I just live in Baltimore (a city with an infamous crack problem, in case you haven't heard) and am confronted with crackheads on a daily basis. I understand why people would start using crack cocaine (as much as I can understand someone wanting to use any hard drugs). If I'm correct, it's somewhat like coke but cheaper.

I'm just wondering why people would start selling/dealing crack. It doesn't seem cost effective to me. Given how notoriously expensive cocaine is, why would someone buy it just to turn it into a cheaper drug? Obviously it's cut a lot, but even still. Wouldn't it just make more sense to cut the coke itself a little bit and resell it rather than turning it into crack?

    Just curious.

  • I have a fast heartbeat and shortness of breath?

Right now, and for the past few hours, I've been experiencing dizzying shortness of breath and a quick, but not irregular heartbeat. It started a few hours ago and I assumed it was because I drank a big cup of coffee this morning without having gotten enough sleep or eating anything today. I just figured that the coffee increased my heart rate and the shortness of breath was because I needed to get increasing amounts of oxygen to my heart. Now, three hours later I finished the coffee I'm still experiencing these symptoms and they are really scary. I really want to take a nap today so I could catch up on lost sleep, but I'm afraid that if I fall asleep I won't take deep enough breaths and will suffocate (if that's the correct term).

Help? I'm really tired but also too afraid to sleep.

  • How does one go about getting diagnosed with depression/anxiety?

Since I can remember I've been lazy, aimless, socially awkward, and requiring more sleep than anyone I know in order to function. I'm introverted but don't want to be. I crave and lack human affection. I have serious fears about my future and the only thing curbing my thoughts of suicide is the hope that once I enter a new stage of my life things will be better. In middle school I thought high school would allow me a fresh start and greater control over my life. In high school I thought college would do the same thing. Now I'm in college (and though I'm significantly happier to be out of the suburbs and around people I can relate to somewhat) and I still don't feel any kind of real satisfaction out of life. I have delusions of grandeur that involve me living the lives of my friends and people I wish I were more like. I can't find the energy to make myself care about school, even though I'm very intelligent and school has always been naturally very easy for me.

Apparently these are symptoms of depression, though social situations also always make me anxious. As a result people think I am immature or boring because I second-guess myself, laugh nervously at inappropriate times, have a slight lisp (I'm somewhat deaf), or am just shy. That's why I think depression may be caused by the loneliness that stems from my extreme social anxiety.

I don't know how to go about getting diagnosed though. Would I see a regular doctor? I don't want to have to go to a therapist, so could I do a one-time session with a psychologist?

I'm lucky in the sense that I'm still a dependent so I'm on my mom's health insurance. Unfortunately, I can't afford a prescription/co-pay and my mom thinks depression is something you can just "get over" if you just motivate yourself. She sees it less as a disease and more as something lazy people do because they don't want to face their problems. Help?

  • How do I get more followers on an art tumblr?

I've been maintaining an art blog on Tumblr for a few months now and, while satisfied with the posts I've made, I don't seem to be getting as popular as I feel I should.

I mean, I have a real-life curator that I really like as a follower and the tumblr-version of a fairly famous art site following me, but typically internet popularity is based on the quantity of fans, not quality. I'd like to maintain my tumblr as respectable and not sink to the level of reblogging every cute picture of a baby animal I see just to get followers, but I'm having a tough time developing a following.

  • How much is involved in dying my hair silver/gray?

I have jet-black dyed hair right now, but am thinking about dying it gray for winter. I'm just worried that it would either be expensive, take forever with awkward transition periods, or that it would basically kill my hair.

I was inspired by the girl in this picture, but was thinking of going for a little more silver and less blonde.

This is a picture of me, so you can see my hair color. Sorry it's dark and grainy.

  • Do wigs prevent your real hair from growing?

I gave myself a pretty bad haircut not too long ago and have been wearing a wig to cover it up. However, it seems to be taking a way longer time for my hair to grow out than it normally does.

For example, I usually need to trim my bangs every few weeks (I have straight across bangs), but since I started wearing the wig (about a month and a half ago) it seems like they haven't grown at all. Same goes for the rest of my head. Is it because I keep it tucked into the wig? Does hair need room to grow?

  • Do septum rings always go through the cartilage?

I've been thinking about getting my septum pierced for the past few months. I have a few friends who have gotten it done and it looks decent on a few of them. Others have told me I have a good nose shape for it.

The only thing is that I'm worried about the pain.

I'm now 18 and would be able to do it legally (as in, not have to go to a creepy place on St. Marks in NYC that doubles as a knockoff sunglasses stand). I mention this only because I had my septum pierced before, when I was 15. But back then I went to one of the low-end places mentioned before. And you know what? I didn't even feel the needle go through. It was remarkably painless and I was pleasantly surprised. No complications at all.

The only thing is that I'm afraid he must have done it incorrectly, which is why it didn't hurt. I think he went too low and missed the cartilage or something? Is that possible or must I just have a very high pain tolerance.

When I stick my fingers in my nose now, I can feel a little bit of scar tissue, but it's all the way at the bottom.

Anyway, I guess my main question is whether the ring always has to go through the cartilage for the piercing to "work" or could I ask whoever pierces my nose to go below the cartilage so that it would hurt less?

  • How trustworthy is Egg Donor Surrogacy USA?

I'm looking to donate my eggs, but as I'm only 18, very few organizations will accept me as a donor. I found one, Egg Donor Surrogacy USA, but was unnerved to find that they requested my social security number on the first page. I understand many places, like job applications, do this, but I'm just a little worried.

Does anyone know if this is a reputable organization? I don't want to get scammed.

  • Indie/folk music recommendations?

Ever since I deleted my myspace, I've been kind of out of touch with the music world. I don't listen to the radio, not even college radio (I'm not an elitist, my car stereo is just broken). I can't really afford to go to shows right now, and I want to get hear some new stuff.

Here are some of my current favorite bands:

    The Antlers

    Antony and the Johnsons

    Beach House

    Beirut

    Broadcast

    Fleet Foxes

    Grizzly Bear

    Nico

    Sea Wolf

    Vashti Bunyan

    .... among other things.

  • What are some organic toothpaste brands?

Can anyone name any organic or sustainably-produced toothpaste brands, besides Toms of Maine. I've been using Toms for a while now, but it doesn't appear to be too great at cleaning my teeth. I'm a good brusher and do so regularly, but I'm noticing increasing yellowing. But I still don't want to switch to one of the major brands (yes, I know Toms is actually owned by Colgate). Does anyone know of any other brands that will keep both my teeth and my conscience clean?

PS: I would prefer American-made. But if it has to travel, I'd like the company to conform to fair labor standards. Also, no animal testing.

PSS: Do not harass me about being a "hippie" or a "commie." To each their own; I won't bother you for using Trident. We all have different values. I'll just give you a bad rating for posting stupid stuff like "there's a recession/war/crisis in Haiti and you're worried about toothpaste???" because, let's face it: organic, local products are more expensive, which benefits the economy; they are made in the US, which increases GDP and creates jobs, and don't use nasty chemicals so they are better for the environment. Everyone wins.
